FROM THE PASTORDear Friends in Christ,This Tuesday, during the 6:30 p.m. Mass, Bishop Campbell will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on several young people of our Parish. This solemn event follows months of preparation on the part of the candidates, their parents, and their sponsors. The dedicated catechists of the Confirmation team, under the leadership of our director of religious education, Glenna Celestino, have given individual attention to all the students of the Confirmation class. Every year, the Confirmation program is refined and adjusted so that it is continually improved. We congratulate those about to be confirmed, and we pray that, through the grace of the sacrament, they will offer to all of us an image of committed discipleship.

On Wednesday afternoon of last week, I met with our Parish worship commission to review our liturgies of Holy Week and Easter. We also looked forward to important upcoming celebrations, including Pentecost and Corpus Christi.

Our Parish school has received a lot of positive attention since we announced the plans for the new middle school program. We are looking forward to interviewing applicants for new teaching positions. Este solemne evento sigue meses de preparación por parte de los candidatos, sus padres y sus patrocinadores. Los dedicados catequistas del equipo de confirmación, bajo la dirección de nuestra directora de educación religiosa, Glenna Celestino, han prestado atención individual a todos los estudiantes de la clase de confirmación. Cada año, el programa de confirmación se refina y ajusta para que se mejore continuamente. Felicitamos a los que están a punto de confirmarse, y oramos para que, por la gracia del este Sacramento, nos ofrezcan a todos nosotros una imagen de discipulado comprometido.

Spiritual Bouquet – May 12/13. How would you like the teens of our parish who will be attending the Steubenville Youth Conference to spend a Holy Hour in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, praying for you and your intentions? Write down on the paper flower your prayer requests and then on a set date, the teens will go as a group to the church and offer all these requests up to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. A paper flower display will be made available after Masses on May 12 and 13. You may make a donation if you would like to help the teens pay for their trip to the Steubenville Youth Conference this summer, but a donation is not required.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

In order to understand and better appreciate this special sacrament, parents must attend a Pre-Baptismal class. St. Mary offers this instruction four times a year on the second Sunday of the month from 2:00-4:30 p.m. in the Commons. Preregistration for the class is required. Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays of the month, immediately following the 11:00 a.m. Mass. This weekend is the start of the Bishop’s Annual appeal. The theme of the appeal, “Sharing His Love, Encouraging Hope” reminds us to spread His love by responding to the needs of others. The Appeal makes possible the many good works that are facilitated by the Office of Social Concerns, the Office of Marriage and Family Life and contributes to the education of our future priests and deacons, as well as the education of our young people in their faith. These are just a few examples of the many ministries and program supported by your gift to the Appeal. Together, we can bring hope that can change lives.
