B) Solid Wastes:

Quantity: The total quantity of sludge generated during 2014-15 was approximately 14.6

Ton. During 2014-15, quantity of solid wastes generated was 1228 Ton that includes

wastes from households and wastes from greenbelt was generated in Vatika City. This includes above 61 Ton of wastes from greenbelt.

Method of Handling & Disposal:

(i) STP Sludge: A part of the sludge generated from the STP was recycled in the STP to stabilize the biological treatment process and maintain the MLSS level. Balance was utilized to prepare manure.

(ii) Municipal Solid Waste: Collection, handling and transportation of municipal solid wastes (MSW) were performed by the help of vendors duly approved by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.

(iii) Solid Wastes from greenbelt: Solid wastes from greenbelt were disposed of by the help of vendors duly approved by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon. The usual average composition of solid wastes is as under:

The residential group housing project practices guidelines of Municipal Solid Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000. Wastes bins have been installed at various convenient locations. Wastes from the bins are taken to a centralized location to segregate the recyclables from biodegradable. The recyclable part from the municipal solid wastes is segregated and sold

to recyclers and waste traders, while remaining part is disposed at the common waste management facility located near Bandhwari village.

PART G

Impact of the pollution control measures taken on conservation of natural resources and consequently on the cost of production Vatika City residential group housing project has implemented effective measures to control the inevitable air and water pollution, generated from operation of DG sets and domestic water consumption. These measures are highly significant towards conservation of natural resources. Further, pollution control actions contribute towards better financials of the project.

1. Installation & Operation of STP: During 2014-2015 the average volume of wastewater generated could be calculated as 1003 KLD. The project has been facilitated with a state-of-art STP of 1200 KLD capacity. This ensures treatment of wastewater to the extent that it meets limits specified for disposal of wastewater. Further, in Vatika City residential group housing project the entire volume of treated wastewater (nearly 953 KLD) was reused in flushing, watering greenbelt and cooling water make up.

2. Wastewater recycling, reuse and conservation:

(a) Reuse of treated wastewater:

Quantity of treated wastewater generated in the project was closely 953 KLD. This is noteworthy step towards conservation of natural water resources. 100% of flushing, cooling water make-up and greenbelt water requirement is met through treated wastewater. Use of treated wastewater in flushing, greenbelt and cooling tower make-up could have saved nearly Rs. 29,59,435/=1 in terms of direct water billing during 2014-15.

(b) Installation of Rainwater Harvesting Structure: i) More than 34 structures have been installed to harness rainwater in Vatika City

project. The rainwater, so harnessed is recharged in to the ground water table. ii) The project has a potential to harness 39000 KL of rainwater per annum. iii) Recharging groundwater aquifers with such a huge quantity of rainwater would

further result in conservation of natural resources as well as energy, as every 1 meter rise in the water table helps to reduce 0.4 KWH of electrical energy.

3. Air & Noise Pollution Control:

1 Calculated on the basis of billing @ Rs. 11.9 per KL including all taxes and surcharges

Vatika City, Gurgaon: Environmental Statement (Form-V): 2014-15 Page 7 of 55.

a) The HSD fuels used for running of DG sets meet Euro III standards. This fuel is of high quality and low in sulfur contents (less than 0.035%). By adoption of such qualitative fuel, the project also meets the decision taken by Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority for the National Capital Region on 8th November 2008. Such fuels also increase efficiency of DG sets.

b) The stack height of the DG sets has been raised up to adequate level above the ground level to ensure proper dispersion of any air pollutants.

c) The DG sets have been fitted with acoustic enclosures to control inevitable noise pollution.

d) A suitable landscaping and greenbelt comprising of native species has been developed in the project. This could help preventing pollution from air, noise and also control heat islands.

PART H

Additional measures / investment proposal for environmental protection including abatement of pollution:

a) Regular monitoring of Ambient Air Quality:

Ambient air quality is monitored with respect to PM10, PM2.5 and gaseous pollutants such as SO2 & NO2, CO are performed regularly at an interval of six months at three different directions inside the project. All the parameters have been found to be well within the norms specified in National Ambient Air Quality Standard vide GSR 826 (E) Dated: November 16, 2009 published by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India. By this monitoring a long term data is generated. This data is utilized to assess the impact of air pollution control systems and helps to ensure better ambient air quality. This act of environment management further augments the project’s image before stake holders. Ambient & Source Noise level is monitored regularly at an interval of six months and results area compared with prevailing standards laid by Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India.

b) Regular monitoring of Ground Water Quality: Ground water quality is monitored regularly at an interval of six months by drawing samples from different locations. Essential physic-chemical and bacteriological parameters are analyzed and compared with respective limits given in IS 10500: 1991 and subsequent amendments till date.

c) Regular monitoring of Surface Soil Quality:

Soil water quality is monitored regularly at an interval of six months by collecting surface soil samples from different locations. Essential parameters are analyzed to ensure soil in the project area is free from any kind of contamination.

d) Regular monitoring of Noise Level:

Ambient Noise Monitoring is being carried out once in six month to comply with the conditions of EIA Clearance. The monitoring is carried out as per The Noise Pollution

Vatika City, Gurgaon: Environmental Statement (Form-V): 2014-15 Page 8 of 55.

(Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and subsequent amendments. The results were found to be within specified limits. Source Noise Monitoring (as per Noise Limit for Generator Sets run with Diesel were notified by Environment (Protection) second Amendment Rules vide GSR 371(E), dated 17th May 2002 at serial no.94 and its amendments till date 15th March, 2011) is being carried out once in six month to comply with the conditions of EIA Clearance. The results were found to be within specified limits.
