Patriot Notes By Val Fox, LHS Principal Welcome back to another great school year! We had over 1,200 stu- dents come through Patriot Power Day to receive schedules, take pictures, get ID’s, etc. It was a wonderful start! We espe- cially thank all of the parents/guardians who took the time to get their child here for that important start of the year! We also thank the Student Council and Na- tional Honor Society members for helping with freshman orientation—you guys were awesome! Our next important day is Parent Student Teacher—PST night. It is Wednesday, August 31. Please make an effort to be here that night with your child to meet the teachers and get a feel for what is in the cur- riculum for the classes. Please bring your child’s schedule with you (take a picture of it on your phone)! If you don’t have a schedule, come to the office that night to get a copy. This year, all schools are implementing more safe- ty measures. Lincoln High will also be implementing sev- eral new procedures and one will be the outside doors. We will now only have three outside doors for stu- dents to enter at the start of the day. The three en- trances will be: “A” (by administration), “K” (by the glass staircase in back) and “U” (by the gym). Students will no longer be able to enter the building from oth- er doors. We also will have a Hall Monitor hired for the beginning of the school day to monitor who comes into the building. Please help us out by encouraging your child to use one of these three doors at the begin- ning of the day. Thank you. All students will once again receive a chromebook which will be their property for the year. Mr. Luitjens, Mr. Ryswyk, and a team of staff members got all of the chromebooks ready to go for each Ad Room for the first day of school. If you have not al- ready done so, I highly encourage you to look at the insurance options for chromebooks. We continue to be excited about our ACT and AP test scores! I will have an update for parents/guardians on PST Night. Our ACT composite was 24.1 (state was 21.9) and our AP stu- dents had an amazing pass rate of 79% (national pass rate was 60.2% and the District pass rate was 70.6%). We are very proud of our students’ hard work and academic excellence! Many of our students have already been hard at work— as many of our activities and athletics have already started. Our Marching Band has over 260 students and they have had day long practices these past two weeks. Our volleyball, soccer, ten- nis, football and cross country teams have not only been practic- ing but we have already had several matches/games. It is so exciting to be back with all of the kids in the activities! Welcome back to a great school year. We are glad you have chosen Lincoln High for your child’s education and look for- ward to seeing everyone on the first day of school— September 6!
