Meaningful Instructional Practices (Sept 1-30) Meeting the needs of all learners is the challenge we face on a daily basis in the classroom. Review the basics of differentiation and learn strategies for differentiation that have been shown to work. Even this course will be differentiated for participants based on grade band and content area. Classroom Management (Sept 1-30) Classroom Management is an essential key to increasing student achievement. This course will provide dozens of practical, eye-opening strategies that can be used for managing students effectively, focusing on both prevention and intervention. Participants will: identify the goal of classroom management; describe the characteristics of great classroom management; explain the importance of rules, control, and order in great classroom management; and apply strategies learned for developing great classroom management. Interesting Images with InfoGraphics (Oct 1-31) Keep student engagement high with infographics! Convey interesting facts and figures while integrating students in the sharing and design process. Have students make their own and share with one another while learning about various topics, or focus on one in particular. Student Motivation (Oct 1-31) Motivated students strive for academic excellence and reach high personal goals. To foster this learning environment, we must understand both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, and how these apply to students’ varied learning styles. How do we show our students the relevance and appeal of our course content? In this course, we will consider models of motivation and how they inform strategies for motivating students, including setting realistic student goals, teaching students the skills needed to reach goals, distinguishing between encouragement and praise, and being an energetic, enthusiastic, caring teacher. Digital Survival Skills (Nov 1-30) Do you get lost when searching? Do you think the "cloud" is only in the sky? This 6-hour course will help you to refine your searching skills, familiarize you with the cloud, and show you how you can easily store and access files and images. Rubrics (Nov 1-30) Rubrics are used for assessing many types of assignments from constructed responses to performances. Learn how to design rubrics that truly measure your content standards and learning goals, as well as provide guidance and feedback for students. Make the Switch to Chrome Browser (Dec 1-31) Change your internet browsing experience by learning how to leverage the power of Google Chrome. From bookmarks that sync across all devices to extensions that will provide new functionality to your user experience, using Google Chrome will enhance the way you look at the web. Making the Brain Sweat (Dec 1-31) Bumping up your brain gray matter is like buying a membership to the gym. It only works if you use it. In this course, you will learn how the DOK levels support reaching higher levels of cognition by exercising the brain to process information beyond its superficial level.

Google Resources for the Classroom (Sept 16-Oct 31) Do you use Google to search? Do you have a Gmail account? Have you tried to use Google Drive but need some tips to get you further? Does your school have Google Apps for Education? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this course is for you! Join us to learn about the great resources Google has to offer you and your classroom, while preparing activities in which you use Google resources with your classes. Effective Questioning Techniques (Sept 16-Oct 31) How can we support our students to take their learning deeper? Learn how different types of questions posed by the teacher and by the students can be used to assess and advance learning, build deeper understanding, and strengthen communication to meet the demand of the PA Core Standards. Educator Effectiveness for Teachers (Nov 1-Dec 15) As PDE works to support the development of more effective educators in the classroom, as well as those in school leadership positions, the true goal is to improve student achievement so that all children in Pennsylvania's public schools are prepared to enter a career or post-secondary training and become productive citizens. This course will review the PDE recommended framework to evaluate school professionals, as well as the critical components of training and professional growth. Introduction to Technology Resources (Nov 1-Dec 15) In our current world, it is hard to find places where technology has not become a facet of our lives. With each generation, the utilization and reliance on technology to make things more efficient seems to grow. In this course, we will take a look at the meaningful ways that technology can and should be integrated into the instructional process, not just for the sake of using technology, but to truly enhance the learning process. Building Quality Assessments (Dec 1-Jan 15) Every teacher utilizes multiple choice assessments, but how do we know they are quality, even those created by publishers? Learn the characteristics of quality assessments, how to utilize Webb’s Depth of Knowledge & Bloom's Revised Taxonomy to increase rigor, and how to modify current assessments to align with any content standards and learning objectives.
