You could say that Robert Lyons success in life “grew” from a love of horticulture whichhe has shared as an educator, community member, and entrepreneur for the last 25
years. Lyons graduated from The Ohio State University in 1967 with a degree inHorticulture. In 1969, he began sharing his passion and interest in this field as an instruc-tor for Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School. From 1971 through 1982, Lyonsexpanded his knowledge of the nursery industry while working in wholesale productionnurseries in the states of Oregon and Ohio. In 1982, he planted the seeds of a very fruit-ful family enterprise that 25 years later has grown into the Sunleaf Nursery located inMadison, Ohio.
In addition to cultivating a successful family business, Lyons has championed the nurs-ery industry by accepting leadership roles in many organizations throughout the years. Hehas served the Lake County Nurseryman's Association (President 1986), The OhioNursery and Landscape Association (President 1988), the Horticultural Research Institute(President 2000) and the Wholesale Nursery Growers of America, a division of ANLA(President 2000). During his time on the board of HRI the endowment increased by 40%and annual grant funding grew by 100%. In 2001, he was honored by the Ohio Nurseryand Landscape Association with the Distinguished Contribution Award.
Robert Lyons also tirelessly gives back to the community through service to the HoldenArboretum Board, the Madison Public Library Foundation and the Madison TownshipBoard of Appeals. The Madison/Perry Chamber of Commerce honored Bob and his wifeCarol in 2005 for Sunleaf Nursery as Business of the Year.
Commenting on his community service he says, “I have found that giving of my timeand energy to others, whether it be family, friends or community has been tremendouslyrewarding and the return to me has been tenfold.”

Summing up his greatest achievement since leaving his Alma Mater, Marty says, “I feelthat a great achievement is something that is long lasting. So I feel my greatest achieve-ments are my great children, who are growing up to be wonderful adults. That is what Iam most proud of!”
