Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Sentence: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent,

and believe in the good news. Mark 1.15

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration

of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The minister reads aloud the commandments.

Hear the commandments which God gave his people Israel.

1 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of slavery; you shall

have no other gods but me.

2 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything

that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water

under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.

3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

4 Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shall you labour and do all

you have to do, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God.

5 Honour your father and your mother.

6 You shall do no murder.

7 You shall not commit adultery.

8 You shall not steal.

9 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

10 You shall not covet anything that is your neighbour’s.

Response:

Lord, have mercy on us:

and write your law in our hearts by your Holy Spirit.

Kyrie eleison:

Lord have mercy: R/: Lord have mercy

Christ have mercy: R/: Christ have mercy

Lord have mercy: R/: Lord have mercy

Prayer of the Day

God of the new and eternal covenant,

as the forty days of the great flood

swept away the world’s corruption

and watered new beginnings of righteousness and life:

grant to us, who are washed clean and born again

in the saving flood of baptism, the wellspring of your grace,

that your gift of new life may flourish once again;

through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: Genesis 9:8-17

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, 9 "As for me, I am

establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, 10

and

with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic

animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of

the ark. 11

I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh

be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood

to destroy the earth." 12

God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I

make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for

all future generations: 13

I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a

sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14

When I bring clouds

over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15

I will remember my

covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all

flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.

Page 4: Pew Sheet HTK, 8am, Feb 26, 2012

16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the

everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh

that is on the earth." 17

God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant

that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth."

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm 25.1-10

1 In you, O Lord my God, have I put my hope:

in you have I trusted, let me not be ashamed, nor let my enemies triumph

over me.

2 Let none who wait for you be put to shame:

but let those that break faith be confounded and gain nothing.

3 Show me your ways, O Lord:

and teach me your paths.

4 Lead me in the ways of your truth, and teach me:

for you are the God of my salvation.

5 In you have I hoped all the day long:

because of your goodness, O Lord.

6 Call to mind your compassion and your loving-kindness:

for they are from of old.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions:

but according to your mercy think on me.

8 Good and upright is the Lord:

therefore will he direct sinners in the way.

9 The meek he will guide in the path of justice:

and teach the humble his ways.

10 All the paths of the Lord are faithful and true:

for those who keep his covenant and his commandments.

Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous,

in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive

in the spirit, 19 in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits

in prison, 20 who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in

the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight

persons, were saved through water. 21 And baptism, which this prefigured,

now saves you--not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to

God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who

has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities,

and powers made subject to him.

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet

our Lord who is present in His Holy Word.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 1

beginning at the 9

th verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John

in the Jordan. 10

And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the

heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11

And a voice

came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well

pleased."

12

And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13

He was

in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild

beasts; and the angels waited on him.

14

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the

good news of God, 15

and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of

God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news."

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

SERMON followed by a short time for reflection

The Nicene Creed

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son

is worshipped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Let us pray for all people and for the Church throughout the world.

Each petition of intercession or thanksgiving concludes with,

Lord in your mercy, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

We pray for: We pray for all who work for peace and justice.

We pray for: Province of The Congo; The Diocese of Wangaratta; St

Thomas’ Werribee Karen Congregation – Confirmation; and our Bishops

entry into your nearer presence.

Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers.

Grant that what we have asked in faith

We may by your grace receive,

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Page 8: Pew Sheet HTK, 8am, Feb 26, 2012

8

Jesus said: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another,

even as I have loved you. John 13.34

[Let us pray]

We do not presume to come to your table,

merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness,

but in your manifold and great mercies.

We are not worthy

so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table.

But you are the same Lord

whose nature is always to have mercy.

Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord,

so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ,

and to drink his blood,

that we may evermore dwell in him,

and he in us. Amen.

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

and in what we have failed to do:

we have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father, forgive us.

Strengthen us to love and obey you

in newness of life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

VESTRY REPORT:

Building Project: Vestry confirmed that the building committee for the

duration of the project would be The Vicar, Robert Frood, David Harkin,

Barbara Thomson and Alan Wilson, with the authority to co-opt others with

special skills when thought appropriate.

A schedule of desired elements of the complex is being finalized -

please talk to members of the committee if wanting more information.

During the project we will have limited facilities as the halls are to be

prepared for commercial lease to generate essential income generation,

and the cottage is marked for demolition. It is proposed that the ground

floor of the vicarage will be used as parish space including the location for

parish offices. The Op Shop is currently looking for alternative

accommodation and that area will be available for parish use during the

planning stage. During the building stage the vicarage will be the focus of

parish activities together with some use of spaces within the church.

Stewardship: A new committee is planning a program for later in 2012

to both celebrate our parish and to set out the hopes and needs for the

future.

150th

Anniversary: A committee is planning the celebrations for the

150th

anniversary of the opening of the church building, with the Arch

Bishop to be present at the main service on Sunday 3rd

March, 2-13.
