BLADE  AND C ASC ADE NOMENCLATURE

´ The flow in axial compressor is based on the studies of isolated

(Separated) air foils.

´ Nomenclature methods and blade shape are similar (identical) to the

aircraft wings

´ Cascade: - Involves several (more than two blade) in a row to

simulate on compress rotor or stator

PROJECT ST ATUS

´ Model prepared from the actual profile of

compressor blade.

´ Modeling of cascade profile is completed.

´ Computational analysis done on cascade

profile by varying attack angle with

maintaining same pitch, velocity for smoothblade.

´ Further post processing is to be performed.

RESEARCH PLAN CONTD. ««««..

Computation study is to be be carried out to find

out the deterioration of performance, caused byroughness over compressor and turbine bladesurface, selecting entire and localized bladelocations/ surface each for compressor and

turbine

In order to assess the optimal condition of agenerating set especially the degree of

contamination/fouling of compressor andturbine. The deterioration over the blades of actual power plant will be documented.

RESEARCH PLAN

THE INTERV AL OF S AID

EV ALU ATIONS DEPENDS ON HOW

QUICKLY THECONT AMIN ATION/FOULING OF

THE TURBINE  AND COMPRESSOR

PRODUCE  AN UNDESIR ABLECH ANGE TO THE POWER

GENER ATING UNIT.

RESEARCH PLAN

CONTD««««..

Depending on the actual location the deposition

and erosion will be simulated and the effect of

these parameters on the performance of gasturbine will be determined using fluent software,

WORK ON SOFT W AREWORK ON SOFT W ARE

The steps has been as follows:1. Exercises on G AMBIT

2. Creating geometry on  AUTOC AD

3. Exporting the geometry Created on AUTOC AD into G AMBIT

4. Exporting the geometry Created on

G AMBIT into fluent software

5. Setting the boundary conditions and

visualization of flow in different

configuration or geometries
