Akar is a leading company in the field of Water Treatment Plants and also in the field of Wastewater

Treatment Plants. We have supplied thousands of plants in India and in many parts of the world. Our

plants have been performing for the past almost three decades, which speaks highly of the customer

confidence, which is directly as the result of high quality, reasonable price and the best customer

service.

Our De-Mineralizer systems are an important component of our whole range of products and

systems. We have designed these systems with ruggedness, efficiency of operation / maintenance,

optimum performance and long life in mind. The systems designed are capable of performing high

repeat recharge cycles.

HOW DOES AKAR DE-MINERILZATION WATER TREATMENT PLNT (ADMWTP) WORK?

ADMWTP is resin based system, which follows a simple principle of exchange of ions in water. This

is a reversible process. We use resins, which capture specific types of those ions in water, which

cause problems in a particular project. There is a variety of ions, which can be removed by this ion-

exchange process. It is called ion-exchange process, because specific types of ions are replaced by

specific types of ions. We design the system in advance based on the types and quantity of ions to be

removed in a given period of time. there are a number of limiting factors, which restrict design.

Therefore a careful and well measured analysis of water to be treated is to be done.

The resins placed in the ADMWTP are generally of two types. They are Cat-ionic resins and An-Ionic +resins. Cat-Ionic resins release Hydrogen (H ) ions or other types of positively charged ions in

-exchange of other positively charged ions present in water. An-Ionic resins release Hydroxyl (OH )

charged ions and they will replace other similarly charged ions from the water.

in ADMWTP systems, the following types of ions are observed.

2+ 2+ + +Cations: Calcium (Ca ), Magnesium (Mg ), Potassium (K ), Sodium (Na ), Iron

2+(Fe )- 3- 3- 2-Anions: Chloride (Cl ), Bi-Carbonate (HCO ), Nitrate (NO ), Carbonate (CO3 ),

2-Sulphate (SO4 ),

The process in simple terms can be described as follows: When theses resins are charged as per

their inherent characteristics; when water containing the opposite charged ions passes through, the

oppositely charged ions are attracted by these ions and an ion-exchange process takes place. In

other words, the ions, which need to be removed are taken out of water, by manipulating the design

to attract unwanted ions to be attracted by the charged ions resins. These unwanted ions are

replaced by the oppositely charged ions, which may not cause any problems in the process using

treated water.

These resins are used in multiple ways. Cationic resins are used in removing hardness minerals

such as Calcium and Magnesium. Anionic resins are used in the application of Nitrate removal. It is

the combination of the two resins, which are used in ADMWTP. ADMWTP removes all the dissolved

solids from feed water. This is the process known as De-Mineralization. It is also known as De-

Ionization. After the treatment, the process offers high quality water at the output.

De-Mineralizers

We manufacture various configurations in the range of ADMWTP systems. Apart from sizes or capacities, we also make the following ADMWTP systems.

Two bed De-Mineralizer.Mixed Bed Demineralizers.

Twin Bed- De-MineralizerAkar's twin bed D.M.System consists of two vessels. One contains Cationic resin and the other

+contains Anionic resin. As mentioned earlier Cationic resin is in the Hydrogen (H ) form and Anionic -

resin is in the Hydroxyl (OH ) form. Water flows through first the Cation bed (or column) in the first vessel. The cations in water are exchanged by Hydrogen ions from the cation bed. This is done because the water flowing through has to balance the molecular ratio. Thus, the water picks up Hydrogen and releases Cations. In other words, the resin bed releases Hydrogen but picks up

+Cations such as Calcium, Magnesium etc. For every mono-valent cation, e.g. Na , one hydrogen ion 2+ 2+

is exchanged and for every divalent cation, e.g. Ca , or Mg , two hydrogen ions are exchanged. The same principle applies when considering anion-exchange. The decationised water then flows through the anion column. This time, all the negatively charged ions are exchanged for hydroxide ions, which then combine with the hydrogen ions to form water (H O).2

Mixed Bed De-Mineralization.In mixed-bed De-Mineralizers the cation-exchange and anion-exchange resins are intimately mixed and contained in a single pressure vessel. The thorough mixture of cation-exchangers and anion-exchangers in a single column makes a mixed-bed deionizer equivalent to a lengthy series of two-bed plants. As a result, the water quality obtained from a mixed-bed deionizer is appreciably higher than that produced by a two-bed plant.

In mixed-bed De-Mineralizers the cation-exchange and anion-exchange resins are intimately mixed and contained in a single pressure vessel.

Although more efficient in purifying the incoming feed water, mixed-bed plants are more sensitive to impurities in the water supply and involve a more complicated regeneration process. Mixed-bed deionizers are normally used to 'polish' the water to higher levels of purity after it has been initially treated by either a two-bed deionizer or a reverse osmosis unit.
