Physical Education

As athletes, we will continue to practise our skills in athletics by running, jumping and flexibility.

This helps us to understand the effect that exer-cise has on our mind and body as well as how practise makes (almost) perfect.

The athletic unit of work is all part of the build up to compete against other schools and each other during sports day!

We know we will win!

As digital learners, we will continue to be developing our knowledge, skills and understanding of Compu-ting through using the app Garageband to design and create our own musical soundscapes. We will be us-ing Keynote and Sketches School to create our own baking logo for our new IPC topic, ‘Bake It!’

We will continue to develop our knowledge, skills and understanding of Computer Science through use of the app, Swift Playgrounds.

During our RE learning this half term, we will further develop our understanding of the different religions represented within our local community.

We will be able to celebrate taking care of our mental health during our PSHCE/P4C sessions. We will know:

What mental health is.

Why mental health is important and why it’s important to talk about it.

Tools to help us look after our mental health.

Our IPC topic for this half term is: Bake It!

Our host country is Nigeria, a country known for its delicious dishes and where the famous Jollof rice orig-inates. We will be baking our own Nigerian Agege bread! This process will help us to understand how the various ingredients interact with each other to create this wonderful bread

As scientists, we will know that yeast is a microorgan-ism, the arrangement of particles in solids as well as the types of liquids and gases. We will also gain an in depth understanding of what happens when materi-als are heated and cooled .We will be able to explain and justify our predictions, plan investigations and accurately record our findings and conclusions.

As designers, we will know the way in which products are designed and made as well as how this affects their usefulness. We will be able to research and de-velop design criteria to inform the design of an inno-vative, functional, appealing product -fit for purpose.

This term, Year 6 will be focussing mainly on honing their reading comprehension skills . The children will use their inference and deduction skills to answer assessment style questions in preparation for their forthcoming SATs tests. We consistently encourage our children to justify their answers to questions posed i.e. using evidence from a text to support their answer. When reading with your child at home, try to ask questions about the text and encourage your child to justify their answer. Unsure of what to read? A copy of 100 books to read before the end of Year 6 was sent home before Easter—there are some fabu-lous book recommendations for you to read!

As mathematicians, we will be preparing for our as-sessment’s this half term. We will be spending time revising various topics covered, in order to deepen our understanding of key concepts. We will also continue to develop our skills at solving real-life word problems involving a wide range of mathematical skills.

A brief exploration of exam techniques will help us to ensure we know how to achieve our full potential during tests. This half-term we will explore measure, geometry, statistics , ratio and proportion.

Please continue to support your child with the four operations, quick calculation methods and rapid recall of times tables.

As writers, we will build on our knowledge of SPAG

(Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) through lessons

which focus on sentence structure , spelling strategies and types of punctuation. We will make explicit links to our class book ‘The Other Side of Truth’ by Beverley Naidoo. During our writing lessons we will gain new knowledge, practice our skills and deepen our understanding of diary entries, letters and short stories. We will be able to identify common features for each genre and apply these to our own writing, making clear connections with our IPC topic, Bake It!

Please Remember PE:

6W: Double PE on Fridays

6B: Monday and Friday

6D:Tuesday and Friday

Please ensure children have appropriate PE kit.

Homework:

Children receive Maths and Spelling homework every Friday to be returned the following Thursday. Please encourage children to check Google classroom for assignments. Children will be tested on their Times tables every Thursday in class.

Reading journals are required to be brought in every day to be checked.
