INTRODUCTION

• Physiognomy - An ancient art & a modern

scientific study of judging human characters by

facial features of face or form of body.

• Physiognomy is also referred to as Face Reading,

Personology and Characterology that gives us an

understanding of humanity and human nature.

• Physiognomy was originated in Greek culture

and since 5,000 years it has developed both

in eastern and western culture.

• In ancient India Physiognomy was called

"Mukha Lakshana Shastra" i.e. science of

reading the face.

Internal Qualities shows external signs

• Ancient Chinese physiognomists believed that each face could predict owner’s future. In some respect, this view is conformed by evidence that certain facial characteristics are related to the kinds of diseases that one is likely to develop later in life.



“Certain diseases alter the expression or appearance of the face because the disease process is related to the development or physiology of face and affects its structure or behavior or both”

• The ‘psyche’ exerts a

powerful impact on facial

expressions and has the

capacity to alter the

architecture of the face in

a permanent way.



Frown is a good example of how emotions disturb physiology and anatomy of the face.



• Most of these facial features have as their basis the

bony structure of the skull, on which the soft tissues lie.

• These features include the shapes and positions of

major areas and landmarks of the face, such as the

forehead, eyebrows, nose, cheeks, mouth, chin.

• Smaller features makes significant approach in

physiognomy.
