By starting the season with six consecutive wins, we have completed the best start by a Marietta College women’s basketball team since the 1989-90 team started the season 8-0. Our team has played equally as well on the road and at home. We began our season by beating last season’s North Coast Athletic Conference champion Wittenberg University. After starting out the game in a 10-0 deficit, we responded and won 65-48. The fourth period featured great Pioneer defense, as we held Wittenberg without a made field goal in the entire fourth period to close out the road win. We then traveled to Danville, KY to play NCAA tournament participant, Rhodes College. Our strong guard play led us to a win as sophomores Amisha Herd, Brooke Borich, and Megan Dixon combined to score 40 points to propel us to a 65-51 victory over Rhodes. The next day featured a more balanced scoring attack. Five different Pioneers scored between 8-12 points as we defeated Centre on their home court, 67-47. Herd and Borich were selected to the All-Tournament team for their play over the weekend. Ban Johnson Arena has still proved to be a tough environment for visiting opponents. Backed by the best fans in the conference, we were able to defeat previously unbeaten Wooster, 83-74, behind freshman Corrie Burkhardt’s monster game. Burkhardt scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the home opener. The fans also supported us in a big way in the 31st Annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament. Hosting a competitive field, we were able to defeat Hiram College in the first round, 75-62. Borich and junior Morgan Liedtke combined to score 33 points as the duo from Fort Frye High School led us in scoring. We then advanced to the championship game against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Despite trailing by ten points in the first half, we wore down the Lady Engineers and closed the game out as Herd made clutch plays down the stretch to push us to the title, 57-50. Ashley Frasure led the team with 12 points, eight rebounds, and nine blocks as she made life difficult inside for the bigger Rose-Hulman players. For her efforts, Frasure was named the Lisa Wagner Memorial Turkey Shoot Most Valuable Player. Borich was also selected to the All-Tournament Team. Now we are on to conference play! In this Issue: 1. By starting the season with six consecutive wins, we have completed the best start by a

Marietta College women’s basketball team since the 1989-90 team started the season 8-0.

Our team has played equally as well on the road and at home. We

began our season by beating last season’s North Coast Athletic

Conference champion Wittenberg University. After starting out the

game in a 10-0 deficit, we responded and won 65-48. The fourth

period featured great Pioneer defense, as we held Wittenberg

without a made field goal in the entire fourth period to close out the

road win.

We then traveled to Danville, KY to play NCAA tournament

participant, Rhodes College. Our strong guard play led us to a win

as sophomores Amisha Herd, Brooke Borich, and Megan Dixon

combined to score 40 points to propel us to a 65-51 victory over Rhodes. The next day

featured a more balanced scoring attack. Five different Pioneers scored between 8-12 points

as we defeated Centre on their home court, 67-47. Herd and Borich were selected to the

All-Tournament team for their play over the weekend.

Ban Johnson Arena has still proved to be a tough environment for visiting opponents. Backed

by the best fans in the conference, we were able to defeat previously unbeaten Wooster,

83-74, behind freshman Corrie Burkhardt’s monster game. Burkhardt scored 20 points and

grabbed 17 rebounds in the home opener.

The fans also supported us in a big way in the 31st

Annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament. Hosting

a competitive field, we were able to defeat Hiram

College in the first round, 75-62. Borich and junior

Morgan Liedtke combined to score 33 points as the duo

from Fort Frye High School led us in scoring.

We then advanced to the championship game against

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Despite trailing

by ten points in the first half, we wore down the Lady

Engineers and closed the game out as Herd made clutch

plays down the stretch to push us to the title, 57-50.

Ashley Frasure led the team with 12 points, eight

rebounds, and nine blocks as she made life difficult inside for the bigger Rose-Hulman players.

For her efforts, Frasure was named the Lisa Wagner Memorial Turkey Shoot Most Valuable

Player. Borich was also selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Now we are on to conference play!

One of the hardest working players to come through our program in recent history is Krissy Rowe. Rowe played guard for the Pioneers from 2010-2013 and excelled at slashing to the hoop, playing excellent defense, and being a great leader.

Rowe graduated from the Marietta College Physician’s Assistant Program in July and has now taken on a role as an assistant coach. Rowe has been superb while working with the guards and has been a major contributor in player de-velopment.

Coach Shrider has nothing but great words to say about Krissy. “Krissy has been an outstanding addition to our staff. Her positive energy and knowledge of the game are tremendous assets.”

This is actually Rowe’s second job as she is also working at Marietta Memorial during the day as a Physician’s Assistant Certified General Surgery Department member. In addition to being a graduate of the PA Program at Marietta College, Rowe also completed her undergrad degree in Biology in 2013.
