  • WHYMaintenance of a garden is labour-intensive.

    Busy or old or otherwise weakened people could benefit from the automation of this task.

    It is a consumer robotics project, but also the (large) municipal gardens or business gardens could benefit.

    Potential market route: Bosch partnership (using Bosch lawn mower robot base).

    Knowledge gap: Algorithms for visual servoing to and interaction with compliant (bush)

    surfaces;

    Algorithms for close by garden scene understanding and navigation.

  • HOWEU project with consortium from 4 different countries (United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland).

    Co-financed by Topsector T&U.

    Robot and target localisation.

    Shape analysis of garden objects.

    Robot navigation over varying terrain avoiding obstacles.

    Vision-controlled arm motion planning to perform cutting (of compliant surfaces).

    Autonomous completion of user-selected tasks.

  • WHAT

    Design and construction of the manipulator and cutting tools capable of performing the specified tasks.

    Motion planning for the manipulator.

    implementation of a navigation and trimming servoing mechanism.

    Support decisions on when and where to trim each plant using functional-structural plant models (FSPM).

  • NEED

    More parallel research projects to speed up the development.

    Additional focus on:Human - Robot Collaboration;

    Swarm Robotics;

    User safety;

    Acceptance by Growers and Society;

    Modified Cultivation Systems.

    Transfer knowledge and technological results to other application domains.

    More cooperation with Holland Robotics.
