Spring is in the air, and, based upon the last few days of August with crisp mornings and beautiful days, roll on spring – enough winter! Of course, this is a really busy time of year as we prepare our statutory accounts for audit, schedule the Annual General Meeting of Residents under the Retirement Villages Act (25th September if you want to put the date in your calendar), and of course prepare for Open Days at Frankston South and Rosebud. In the meantime, we have a planning permit for the 4 units at the junction of the 900’s Road and entrance 4 which will be commencing in the near future. This will complete the missing 4 units (921, 922, 923 & 924) in the 900 series. We have also met with our architect on progressing the next stage of Manning around the croquet lawn and where the units were demolished earlier this year. The plans are being prepared for lodgement with Council seeking a permit for 8 units on this site, with six being able to be completed in the immediate future. This development also provides for another link road between Entrance 3 roadway and across to the east towards the Grant Centre. This is an integral part of our redevelopment to try and provide a better road network to more of our units. Finally, we looked at another draft of our apartment complex planned for the area between entrances 1 and 2 opposite the Lodge. We revised our initial thoughts and are looking to establish 36 apartments immediately opposite the Lodge. We think this will be a better starting point for the project rather than our initial thoughts about stage 1 going along entrance 1. I would expect this proposal to reach Council later this year and will be an interesting discussion point with the officers and councillors. Turning our attention back to the immediate future, we are always looking for volunteers for Open Day and if you able to give an hour or so of your time it would be appreciated. Many hands make for light work. Please contact any of the social clubs or other groups who will put you to work to raise funds for the Village. Of course, we would also like you to invite family and friends to the Village on the day to enjoy the festivities. If you happen to be a football fan, then finals time is also on us. As some of you know, I am a Swans supporter (or South Melbourne supporter for accuracy) and, whilst I am happy for them to reach the finals this year, I am not certain they are playing a brand of football that will take out the prize. Last week the Staff held a special Morning Tea with a guest speaker from “DESTINY RESCUE“ , all proceeds being donated to the cause. We offered the ‘delicious leftovers’ to our patrons at the Parkside Morning Tea and therefore were able to donate a further $60.00 to “Destiny Rescue” On August 12th we were once again visited by Southern Sounds Chorus . This was a fund raiser for Red Cross and our generous audience donated $ 320.00: the Committee added a further $30, making a total of $350.00. Thank you all again. The Australian Welsh Male Choir will be with us again on Sunday 16th September. Their concerts start at 2.00 pm at Clarke. The Choir asks that all door takings be utilised within the Village. Thank you again Gentlemen.

Once again, somebody has seen fit to help themselves to the fruit on one of our mandarin trees and stripped it clean. May we remind residents and their families that all fruit and vegetables belong to the vegetable growers who spend many hours and lots of energy tending their gardens. Please be aware that sales of some of the produce through the kiosk raises money for us to be able to maintain and improve the gardens. Every Tuesday 10 am to 11am at Clarke Centre followed by morning tea.

Life can sometimes be wobbly. It requires stability. We will look at what simple precautions we can take to help us overcome various challenges we face in our daily life. These weekly meetings will help you to learn meditation and the inner workings of our mind to regain stability. It will look at how our mindsets are formed and how they

limit our creative potentials. It will also help to focus on what is positive and leave negative thoughts that stop us living life fully.

Special Operation Christmas Boxes are available again this year to support the efforts of Samaritan’s Purse to bring gifts to disadvantaged children in third world countries who otherwise would receive nothing at Christmas time. All residents who wish to support the project can obtain boxes from the hostesses in each centre. Boxes can be filled or partly filled, every donation helps. Instructions as to what to pack are in every box. Boxes can be returned to your hostess by mid October 2018. Gifts of money to help with shipping costs maybe placed in an envelope marked Samaritan’s purse and given to your hostess. (Please makes cheques payable to Village Baxter Church). Group is now being taken over by Sandy Fletcher and Sue Hinds. Both ladies are experienced in Family History research, have extensive knowledge of genealogy products and local services that are available, and are keen to continue our meetings . Our next meeting is on Friday September 21 at Parkside at 2.00 pm. when we will be discussing results of DNA tests. Longer, sunnier days mean we tend to be out walking more often than we do in winter. Your shoes may be looking slightly worse for wear, though. An easy way to check whether it’s time for a new pair:

Check the sole to ensure you haven’t worn through one particular area more than another, these differences in thickness can affect the balance the shoe provides.

VILLAGE BAXTER RESIDENTS COMMITTEE 2018/2019 ELECTION INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS

ROLE OF THE COMMITTEE :

The Committee is elected by the Independent Living Units Residents to represent their interests. They meet regularly with the Management to discuss matters affecting the rights, privileges and welfare of the Residents and any matters which arise from and pertain to their general status as Residents of the Village. An important role is to examine the Maintenance Charge in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the Regulations. Residents are encouraged take an interest in the VBRC and participate in the election process. Copies of the VBRC Constitution are available from your Hostess or on the website www.villagebaxter.com.

2018/19 COMMITTEE ELECTION : At the September meeting of the Committee, a Returning Officer will be appointed to be responsible for the overseeing of the nomination and election process. The General Manager will call for Nominations to the next VBRC at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 25th September. Nomination forms will then be available from Hostesses. Nominations will close at 12.00 Noon on Tuesday 2nd October and if more than ten nominations are received, an election will be required. Election (If required) In this case a random draw of names to determine the order of names on the voting paper will be held in the Chapel at 1.00pm. on 2nd October. Ballot papers with Candidate information will be available from Hostesses Tuesday 9th October. Voting commences with Voting boxes available at Clarke Centre, Robinsons Centre and Grant Centre from Tuesday 16th October to Friday 19th October, closing at 12.00 Noon. Public Counting of Votes will then take place in the Chapel at 1.00pm. VOTING PROCEDURE Voting is on the basis of one vote per unit. Voters will be required to mark only ten boxes in order of preference thereby indicating the ten residents they wish to represent them on the Committee. At the Counting of Votes, candidate/s with the highest number of blank boxes will be eliminated to reach the ten positions. In the event of two candidates receiving the same number blank boxes for the tenth position, nine nominees will be declared elected and the preferences for the two candidates will then be counted to determine the tenth position.

Spring is here! Don’t you just love it! The trees are budding, new life pushes through the soil to greet this new season; many birds have built their nests, laid their eggs and await the explosion of new life. It is amazing what a new season brings and there’s a new kind of energy excitement and anticipation. It brings a new adventure, new perspectives, new opportunities a new sense of life. This is one of the awesome things I love and appreciate about God’s creation. Breaking out of the bleakness, the darkness, the dullness there springs this newness, this sense of new life – the old dreary days of winter are being left behind and we can embrace the joyful bright days of spring. When was the last time you took to time to enjoy creation? We can catch a glimpses of this beauty and brilliance as we take time to “stop and smell the roses” as it were. Let’s be amazed again as we look out the window onto a garden scattered in colour, as we smell the depth of a scented rose, drink in the brilliance of the sunset or sunrise over the water and landscape, be engulphed by the sounds of lorikeets chattering together among the flowering gums as they feed. You know, too often we can be caught up in the bleak, the misery or even be too much in a hurry to enjoy this new beginning that Spring affords us. Let me encourage you to embrace this new season, this new beginning, this new adventure. Also let me encourage you that as you enter this new season, why not ask the God who created this wonderful world and universe to help you look for something new each day to be thankful for, to be grateful for and to share with someone else. The Peninsula Toy Run is a motorcycle run that I attend each year and “Southern Peninsula Food For All” is where all the proceeds are donated too. This year ride is on Saturday 1st December at the Frankston Pier. The bikes assemble at 7.30am and depart at 9.30am for Rosebud. If you would like to donate any new toys or canned and packaged food they can be left with the hostess and at administration reception. Baron, Cheryl and Anita attend the toy run so they will take them on the day. All residents are invited and welcome to attend the toy run Thank you Baron.
