Economic Details: The Philippines remains among the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, with upgrades to sovereign investment ratings confirming improvements in the country’s macroeconomic fundamentals. The government has defined its development objectives as driving rapid but inclusive economic growth, accelerating employment on a massive scale, and reducing poverty.

The World Bank projects that real GDP will grow at a rate of 6.9 percent in 2017 and 2018. Supported by sound domestic macroeconomic fundamentals and an accelerating recovery among other emerging markets and developing economies, the Philippines is expected to remain one of East Asia’s top growth performers. The government’s commitment to further increasing public infrastructure investment is expected to sustain the country’s growth momentum through 2018 and reinforce business and consumer confidence. Strong and inclusive economic growth is projected to further increase household consumption and speed the pace of poverty reduction.

Leisure Boating Market State:With over 7,600 islands, rich marine biodiversity and a seemingly endless sailing season, the Philippines has long been eyed as a possible hub for the leisure boating industry in Asia. The country has the capacity to become Asia’s boating capital given its natural infrastructure that go along with the spectacular marine resources, that over time, will improve maritime tourism in the country.

While new resorts and water-side land developments are on the rise, there is a call for more marinas and berthing space to be created as most of the yacht clubs are full. Local boat charter services are also taking specific cruising regions by storm. The active participation and dialogue with the government in the campaign for leisure marine developments and several key private sector companies will place the Philippines on the right path to becoming the Mediterranean of Asia.

The Philippine Boat Show & Nautical Lifestyle Expo:Sea-Ex concluded its 9th year on a high note, supported by the Tourism and Promotions Board and the National Coast Watch Council Secretariat. The show ended with a key milestone of breaking the 4,000 attendee mark with the addition of more international guests and clients. This is a testament to the growing reach of the event, which is gaining interest from the international community.

Running on 9 years, the three-day event continues to truly celebrate the ocean while bringing to the forefront key issues in infrastructure, development, laws and regulations that if the government and the private sector work hand in hand to address, opportunities will present themselves. The show has evolved to encompass the nautical industry from boats, water sports equipment, resorts, land developers, automobiles, safety and rescue services, summer apparel and all other supporting services, creating a complete lifestyle experience.
