1ST ANNUAL MILITARY VEHICLE DISPLAY AND SWAP MEET
Mark Saturday, August 26 on your calendars. This is the date of the 1st Annual Military
Vehicle Display and Swap Meet. It is being held at Parkland Mall in Red Deer. We
choose this location as it was central in the Province and provided good access to the
public. It is our hope that we will have vehicles on display from all over the Province.
The Swap Meet is also open to anyone who wants to sell military parts and accessories.
We are also planning on having a vendor display area. It should be an enjoyable day
for military enthusiasts in Alberta. Watch the newsletter for updates.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2017 By Donna Geekie
November 11 again found the Prairie Motor Brigade at The Military Museum in Calgary. The
weather was good which I am sure contributed to the large crowd in attendance. They
estimated that 15,000 people were there. Fortunately we had finished our stall barriers in time
for this display. It made a big difference to have our vehicles roped off from the spectators.
We had six vehicles on display. Thank you to the members who attended. The museum changed
their PA system this year and it certainly improved the ceremony. We were located just south
of the eternal flame and we could hear all the ceremony. At noon, after the ceremony, the
Museum provided us with a very nice lunch which put the finishing touch on an enjoyable day.
Remembrance Day at the Military Museum in Calgary is the second largest ceremony in
Canada. Veterans are of course front and center at this ceremony and it was very interesting to
have them and so many others come over to see our vehicles. There were a lot of interesting
stories told and many memories talked about. This makes all our efforts to have our vehicles on
display worth it. We thank the Military Museum for all the work they did to make this event
such a success and so enjoyable.
On display at the museum is this Leopard 1 chassis, Armoured Recovery Vehicle variant belonging to the
Army Museum of Alberta. It was provided through the Strathcona’s by kind donation from the Hornburg
family on behalf of their son, Nathan Hornburg.

Airdrie’s LAV III Monument
By Jim Hodgson
The City of Airdrie received the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) monument on October 20th. It was installed at the Nose Creek Museum and officially unveiled on November 6th. There are 250 LAV III monuments planned for display across the entire country and this one is the first in Western Canada. In attendance were representatives from all levels of government, members of the armed forces, vets and cadets, and members of the Airdrie Legion, Branch 288 and many local citizens.
