Disrupt and provide different opportunities
• In developing the current Mental Health Strategy over 2011 and 2012, feedback from some diagnostic groups was services are very focused on behaviour modification, which isn’t what they wanted.
• People wanted to know how they compare to others with similar problems- ‘How mad am I?’
• A growing number of people taking to the web and social media to find information and express themselves.
How might we respond to these groups differently and more effectively using technology?
Public health interventions happen in the places people live their lives and increasingly that is online and through using digital devices.
‘…Scotland wide approach to improving mental health through new technology…’
Initial ideas
• Enable people to externalise and give them a place to reflect on what is going on with them
• Create a data store, connect it to things people are engaged with that will allow us to create and feed back insights to the user
• Externalise, reflect, explore. Safe, in control, connected.
Current state of play
We have a minimum viable product ready for comment and testing.
Public launch this autumn but we’re looking for early testers in the public sector. Could this be you?

How do we work?
• Lean- small team with no heavy layers
• Fast- in two week sprints
• Communicate often- face to face and using different online (mostly free!) tools
• Off the Scots network
My role- Project Evangelist
• Organic community building
– Building trust and relationships, enabled by technology
– A long game– Strategic– Quality, not quantity
Web and social media
• We have total autonomy over our website, blog and social media accounts
• Content curation and repurposing is a core task• Content is currently focused on engaging with
specific audiences: public/ third sectors and geeks • Next steps: focus on unique content, getting more
detailed analytics to inform content planning, face to face meetings, blending in a commercial approach to reaching people
How have we been allowed to do all this?
