What is Grime• Grime is a genre of music that emerged in

England in the early 2000s. It is mostly a mixture of UK garage, drum and bass and dance hall. At first grime was first played on pirate radio stations such as Rinse FM, Déjà vu FM, Freeze 92.7 and Raw mission. When grime first came out it had a number of names such as 8-bar, nu shape, sublow and eskibeat.

• Since the birth of Grime, it has become very popular and it now can be accessed on almost every music website, it also played on lots of different radio stations.

I really like this paragraph I found in the guardian as I feel it has a really strong representation of grime in the way that, It wasn’t very mainstream and people struggled to get clear copies of the music. I also like the way that this paragraph shows us the development of this music genre and in technology.

How are the music videos of grime songs presented to us

• More often then not in a Grime music video we will be presented with the main person who sings the song singing to the viewer and he has his posse also known as roadmen behind him. A lot of grime music videos have quite dark lighting and can come across as very violent and aggressive.

Is Grime a global Music Genre

Grime was created in the UK and for a while stayed only in the UK however recently it has started to get popular in places such as America and Japan. We can see that it Is popular in the US for reasons such as Skepta a grime artist is going on tour there and its already sold out.

Music videos analysisSkepta- shutdown (2015)This music video is set in barbican estate, I feel that they have filmed the music video there as it is quite rough and rugged estate which in my opinion is perfect representation of the song. In this is music video the clothing consists of two colours black and white, Personally I think that the colour of clothes really shows the message they want to give from this song. For example If they were wearing colourful clothes it wouldn’t not give an accurate representation of the message they want to give the viewer. The camera angles in this music video are very basic they either have a tracking or panning shot or they just have a mid shot. Although all of these camera angles are very basic they work really well.

More Fire Crew- Oi (2006)This music video came out on Jul 4, 2006 although is video came out nine years before Skepta’s- shutdown, it is still very similar in the way that they are all wearing the same colour clothing and clothing brands. The camera angles in this music videos are very similar, They consist of a mid, panning and tracking shot. In this music video they also have the artists singing in the front and then they have their entourage behind them. One thing they have different in this music video is that they have included more effects in the editing, An example of this is making the screen shake when a beat drops.

Music Video Analysis part 2Stormzy- Know me from (2015) This is music video is quite different to the other ones as the whole music video is a tracking shot of Stormzy walking around and singing the song. They have been really creative with this music video and I really like some of the stuff they done, such as using big card board cut outs of things such as an iPhone and app logo. They have also used of items of clothing to show parts of the song. In this music video instead of having his posse behind him the whole time he uses his mum in the music video; this actually works really well and it’s a good contrast between other grime music videos.
