“Teamwork is the ability to work

together toward a common vision; the

ability to direct individual

accomplishment toward organizational

objectives. It is the fuel that allows

common people to attain uncommon

results.”

– Andrew Carnegie

The Foundation was formed in 1987 to serve as a link between the community and the schools. Through the

Foundation, funds and resources are provided to enhance and enrich educational opportunities for all

District 202 students that would not otherwise be possible. The pursuit of excellence and quality

education is the top priority for the District. The Foundation provides resources beyond the normal operating budgets for educational programs and

activities for students.  Local businesses, individuals in the community and the school district working together can help to ensure a successful future for all students.

We believe ALL students can learn. We provide instruction that is aligned with standards to prepare ALL learners to go

to 3rd grade as competent readers, writers and mathematicians who are able to work with and get along with

others.

We value, encourage and expect independence in all students.

Shifts in English Language Arts

• Students and teachers increase their use of content-rich non-fiction to build knowledge.

• Students are required to use evidence directly from the text (fiction and non-fiction) to progress in Reading, writing and speaking. This includes defending their thinking verbally and in writing.

• Students require regular practice with complex text and its academic language. Students who read many different types of text at multiple complexity levels become better readers, writers and thinkers.

Students as Readers and Writers(Authors)

Students need quality texts of different kinds. If it has words, ask your child

to read it.

Time to read makes better readers…take

20 minutes before bed and READ!

Discussion using evidence from the text-”show me in the book how you know

that”

Shifts in Math

• In depth study of and focused implementation of standards

• Coherence: Think across grades, and link to major topics

• Rigor: In major topics, pursue conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application with equal intensity

• Focus on understanding how a child was thinking when solving and defense of their thinking (orally and in writing) in addition to solution

You love your kids and want the best for them.

You tell your kids when they do well and when they need to do differently.

You find enjoyment in activities with your children.

You send us the smartest, most well-behaved kids you have.

You trust us because you send your child to school everyday.
