Primary School Sport Professional Development Courses Val Sabin - Primary School Athletics for KS1 & KS2 A Val Sabin Athletics course develops and extends the understanding of

teachers and builds confidence in their delivery of interesting, exciting and

inclusive athletics lessons. It demonstrates how to develop pupils‘ all-round

physical and athletic fluency through a wide range of enjoyable, stimulating

activities and challenges based on the core actions of walking, running, jumping

and throwing. Each group of core skills and related athletic events are explored

and safety issues are identified and addressed throughout the course.

Participants experience a range of intrinsically interesting and enjoyable

activities to prepare the bodies and minds of the children they teach. Safety

issues and organisation are an integral part of the course. Participants are made

familiar with the contents of the manual and how to use it most effectively.

Minimum expected standards of performance are identified in detail at Years 2(7

years), 4 (9) and 6 (-11 years) to help participants make judgements about levels

of attainment, and methods of assessment will be discussed. An ―Athletics in the

Curriculum‖ manual will be included as part of the course.

Primary Golf CPD

This course is designed to familiarise individuals with the Tri-Golf equipment, the

game cards and associated resources. It provides you with the knowledge

required to maximise the potential of the scheme and deliver activities in a

structured programme linked to the delivery of the ‗School Games‘ initiative. By

the end of the workshop, teachers should be able to:

Introduce golf to a large group of children in a fun and safe way.

Use a variety of game cards and equipment to maximise inclusion

and progression of activity.

Understand and apply simple games to aid learning.

Enjoy enhanced competence and confidence in delivering Tri-Golf to

children for School Games Level 1 & 2 competitions

In addition, those attending should be able to:

Link Tri-Golf to the four strands of the PE Curriculum (Key Stages 1 and 2).

Link Tri-Golf to other areas of the curriculum such as literacy and numeracy.

Understand follow-on opportunities for their pupils within local community

coaching programmes and through links to local golf clubs.

PE & School Sport

Professional Development

“The continuous professional development of staff in the

teaching of PE and sport is an effective use of the primary

sport premium. By using the money in this way schools should

be able to see a benefit from the funds beyond the two year

window. We conclude that the best long-term use of the

primary sport premium may well be through investment in

high-quality training of staff.”

Education Select Committee report into school sport

Schools accessing CPD have said…..

“Invaluable, professional support which empowered our Physical

Education subject leader to ensure our Good OFSTED judgment in our

subject inspection.”

“I feel more confident at showing staff how we can begin to assess the

children.”

“Cements knowledge and ensures similar practice across schools.”

“The practical nature of the course developed my understanding of

how music can support the teaching of dance, I have more

confidence teaching basic dance moves and understand how to use

dance in cross curricular ways. I loved the amount of practical

training and dance ideas all with fantastic progression and

differentiation.”
