How would you describe your personal approach and the unique services you offer?

Kathryn White: Our personal approach consists of being fully committed to our clients with out-standing service and consistent communication throughout the real estate process. We are readily available to our clients for questions and follow-up to create an expe-rience that truly resonates with luxury home buyers and sellers.

John Cain: What really sets us apart is that we are a very well-structured team with vertically integrated systems in place to oversee the clients’ experience. We have placed great care in estab-lishing an infrastructure and support that frees us up to respond to our clients, so that we can fully focus on selling their properties. We closed over $185 million in sales in 2014 and over half of our business comes from past clients and refer-rals – so we are doing something differently that is attractive to the high-end consumer.

What are the biggest general trends in luxury real estate at the moment? K.W.: Studies show that approximately 90% of clients have done Internet research prior to con-tacting an agent. In addition to print marketing, which is crucial for luxury real estate, the indus-try is moving toward online and digital. We in-corporate online property films into our luxury listings assisting clients to visualize the property floor plan, the amenities of both the home and the community and the geographic location. John and I allocate significant funds to create a comprehensive marketing and advertising cam-paign both in print and online.

J.C.: Given the global economic climate, the United States has been perceived as a safe haven for foreign purchasers, and that influx has really fuelled pricing in many of the prime locations in the United States. This has really helped values

across the nation and certainly in our local market.

On that note, which trends are you noticing in your region in the luxury homes market?

J.C.: Orange County is becoming more promi-nent on the global stage as a premiere location to live and invest in. infrastructure along the coast in Orange County has really developed to round out this premium lifestyle offering. Coastal Or-ange County is the place on the map to be a real contender in the luxury space.

K.W.: I have been fortunate to have lived in La-guna Beach, Newport Coast and Corona del Mar for over 33 years. I raised my two children here, and have a keen understanding of both private and public schools and the vast local amenities. I have a retrospective knowledge of the area and have witnessed the progress to becoming an in-ternational destination for buyers.

What are buyers demanding from luxury homes these days?

K.W.: Ocean views are among the top criteria for buyers, together with location and amenities in a given community, as well as proximity to the beaches, infrastructure, excellent schools, shop-ping/dining, and airports. Many buyers prefer newer construction with open floor plans with adequate natural light and sophisticated interi-ors.

And finally, what is the #1 reason for moving to Southern Orange County?

In addition to being a great place to live, we often think about Corona del Mar (“CdM” to locals) for its stylish stores and delicious dining. It’s definitely a place we take out-of-town visitors to

enjoy picture-perfect views and a walk through Crystal Cove State Park or on the beach at Big or Little Corona. But there’s a lot that we don’t know - or maybe just take for

granted - about the “Crown of the Sea.”

Beyond Corona del Mar’s premier properties, beautiful beaches and renowned restaurants, did you know…

Corona del Mar is not its own city, even though it has its own ZIP Code. It’s officially part of the City of Newport Beach.

There are many theories about how Corona del Mar’s “Flower Streets” got their names, but no definitive answer to “why flow-ers?” and no reasoning behind why, in their roughly alphabetical order, there are no streets with names beginning with letters E or K, yet there are two streets beginning with the letters A, M and P. We do know that the streets got their names from Corona del Mar’s second developer, F.D. Cornell Company, and that Marguerite was originally known as Pier and Poinsettia Avenue was Pansy Avenue.

While homes in Corona del Mar have sold for as much as near the $40 million mark (namely, the Portabello Estate in Cameo Shores) - back when the village was first settled (in the early 1900s), 30-foot-wide lots were marketed for $100.

There have been rumors for years that beloved Corona del Mar restaurant, Five Crowns, has some ghostly guests. Accord-ing to Corona del Mar Today, which published a fun story on

the topic in 2009, employees of the restaurant - built in 1936 - have noted that the gourmet ghosts are inclined to visit during

the holiday season. They’ve supposedly been sighted as reflections in powder room mirrors, apparitions in the garden and kitchen,

mischievously playing with lights and doors and otherwise thumping and bumping about. Let’s just say that these rumored visitors won’t

keep us away from Five Crowns’ award-winning cuisine!

The Five Crowns’ previous incarnation - the Hurley Bell Inn - also made Corona del Mar history as a romantic getaway for famous couples in the

1940s, including Humprhey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and Howard Hughes and Rita Hayworth.

The Goldenrod Footbridge, a span which connects two segments of Goldenrod Avenue over Bayside Drive in Corona del Mar, was built in 1928 when Newport’s 2,000 residents

wanted an easier path to the beach. In 2014, the bridge was granted historic status.

And, it’s no mystery that Sherman Library & Gardens is one of the gems of Corona del Mar - a 2.2-acre oasis of gardens with a charming cafe and a library that contains an impressive collection of materials chronicling the history of the Pacific Southwest. But few know the history of the property, which originally served as a nursery with a small adobe house until it was acquired in 1955 by Arnold D. Haskell, who converted the adobe to function as his office while he redeveloped the property as a public garden. Why isn’t it named Haskell Library & Gardens? Because Haskell - not a fan of personal publicity - named the property in honor of mentor and benefactor, M.H. Sherman. Looking for more on Corona del Mar’s history?
