Dear Parishioners of Prince of Peace,
First, I just want to say it is great to be back home at Prince of Peace. For those who may have been wondering why I was absent, I went to visit the Bahamas. It was there that I was charged with the duty of presenting your donation from last year’s Lenten project to the Archbishop of the Bahamas. This has been my second time meeting with the Archbishop on the subject of hurricane relief, but this time with the support of my Prince of Peace family.
Being back in the Bahamas was bittersweet. I saw a country that I did not fully recognize, as they continue to recover from both a pandemic and a Category 5 hurricane, which proved to have crippling effects not only on the economy, but on overall morale. Despite this, Archbishop Pinder assured me that great progress had been made amidst all the calamity.
St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, which received extensive damage, is now in the stages of rebuilding and development. Many of the families that were affected by hurricane Dorian were successfully relocated to other islands with better facilities. Many lives have been changed for the better. I also learned that there were many organizations that rendered resources to the Archdiocese’s disposal. I could tell the Archbishop was excited to hear that Prince of Peace Catholic Church also contributed in this struggle.
Even though I have been in communication with the Bishop since the onset of the Pandemic, I believe it still came as a pleasant surprise when I offered the gift. Archbishop Pinder assured me that this contribution will not only change lives but bring hope to a nation that has suffered so much.
I want to thank you for Following in the Footsteps of the Prince of Peace, giving love and generosity to humanity.

Cancer Care Ministry Begins
While the focus of the last number of months has been on the pandemic and its effect on all of us, the disease of cancer continues to affect many people in our parish community as well as family, friends, and co-workers. In my many years of ministry, I have encountered numerous people who have directly or indirectly been affected by cancer. Within my own family, some of our loved ones have also suffered. One important dimension of cancer care, which the Church can help with and support, is the spiritual health and well-being of those who suffer from cancer, as well as those who care for them. With this in mind, we are beginning a cancer care ministry at Prince of Peace. The first part of establishing this ministry is the training of the first group of cancer care ministers. After completing the 8-week training, these volunteers will be partnered with an individual who is currently battling cancer. Their role will be to provide spiritual support through phone calls, virtual meetings, emails, texts and eventually, when it is safe, one-on-one meetings. This can also involve Ministry of Care (with some additional training) to bring Holy Communion to those who are suffering. If you are interested in becoming a cancer care minister, please contact me through the parish number or through email at [email protected]. There are some pre-screening questions and at that time I will give you the training schedule. All training for this first round will be conducted virtually and should be completed by the end of April. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please pray for all who suffer from cancer as well as those who care for them.
Deacon Jim Minor

“It was love that motivated His self-emptying, that led Him to become a little lower than the angels, to be subject to parents, to bow His head beneath the Baptist’s hands, to endure the weakness of the flesh, and to submit to death even upon the cross,”
~ St. Bernard

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)
Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all Christians! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are “ready” or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gifts means that things aren’t always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much better plan in store for each of us.

Have You Considered eGiving for Your Sunday Contributions?
There is a “Donate” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. This option takes you to the Give Central website, where you can sign up for a regular schedule of contributing that YOU set up. The schedule is completely up to you, and there are several frequency options including weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly.
After signing up for electronic giving, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass. Parishioners who donate electroni-cally to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collec-tions (i.e. St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Day & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
If you prefer to write a check, or use cash, and use your envelopes, please deposit them in the collection box when you enter the church or mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!
January 15, 2021 Dear Members of Prince of Peace Church, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you for the $1,965.00 that was collected and donated to the Lake Villa Township Charities Food Pantry over the holidays. Our food pantry is funded entirely by donation and we have been able to help many less fortunate residents through the generosity of our community. Thank you again for the continued support of our program. Sincerely, Daniel Venturi Lake Villa Township Supervisor

A Tragic Commemoration
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court, in the Roe vs. Wade decision, made its worst mistake in history. By declaring that
children in the womb are not “persons,” it opened the door to tens of millions of abortions. Some 62 million children have been killed in the womb since then just in America. In fact, over 10,000 of these children killed by abortion each year are at 21 weeks of development or beyond. Indeed, as we mark another Roe vs. Wade commemoration, it is time for all of us to get involved in the efforts to end abortion. Visit www.TenStepsToEndAbortion.com to learn what you can do.

A Prayer for Vocations:
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that
they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our
Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and
choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Cleaning Solutions Inc.
On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade we remember the lives lost to abortion. The family is the “sanctuary of life.” Pray with your family for an end to abortion, and for those grieving a child lost to abortion.
