Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians, Over the past fortnight, we have focused on refining and consolidating our approach to Remote Learning with great success. I am pleased with our outcomes so far, with our school attendance remaining at 92%. Our staff are working very hard to ensure your students are provided with the highest quality of learning that we can provide. So I would like to extend a very big THANK YOU to our staff for their work during this time. Looking through student work on SEESAW, it is wonderful to see the work our students are doing and that they are connecting with their teachers. Our teachers are becoming very innovative with how they present the learning activities and many of our students are very dedicated. Although this is not the same for all children, so please continue to encourage your child and provide them the support where you can. I would also like to thank our parents. As a parent of 2 primary school aged children myself, I know firsthand, the challenges around children learning from home and parents working from home too. It is very important to take time to have breaks, exercise and family time. This weekend is Mother’s Day, unfortunately we are not able to have our Mother’s Day stall this year but we hope our students have made their mum’s a card and a homemade gift. My mum always considered these the best gifts! Please share some of these photos with us on our FACEBOOK page.
Regards,
Corey Fleming Principal

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respect to all the elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia”.
ANZAC DAY This year we were unable to run our normal celebration assembly for ANZAC DAY. However many of our students, families and staff still commemorated the special occasion with a Driveway Dawn Service or lovely artworks. Below are just a few of the beautiful images. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Assembly Last Saturday, we were able to present our first remote assembly. This was recorded by our students and teachers from their homes and presented from our Kilberry Connect YouTube Channel. This will be a weekly feature from our school, so please take some time to watch it with your children on Fridays. Congratulations to those students who received student of the week! Attendance While our attendance at Kilberry is remaining high, it is very time consuming for our teachers to monitor their student attendance. Therefore we are now refining this and using a streamlined approach. From Monday, 11th May, all students will be sent an attendance activity each day. This should be the first activity for each day and simply requires the children to draw a tick in the box to show they are present and ready for learning. Teachers will still continue to mark each child’s attendance, this should hopefully just make this easier and less time consuming. Please remember if your child is unwell and not partaking in the learning for the day, you should notify the teacher either through SEESAW or leave a message with the office. Thank you Device and Internet access While the majority of our families are now connected, we are still hearing a few with internet issues. Please remember these two helpful hints to stay connected and contact us if you have issues around this. If you require internet access, while the department have suggested they will be assisting schools with this, they are yet to communicate how. In the meantime, there are 2 things you can do.
1. Firstly you can create a hotspot on your mobile phone for a tablet, computer or laptop to use. Please check your mobile settings on how to do this.
2. Secondly, contact your mobile provider, many of them are offering customers extra data without any further cost. Below are some links to companies that are offering FREE internet to families for remote learning.

https://superloop.com/education Tech Support Our School Tech Support Team are can be reached at [email protected] so please email us any issues you need support with. OnSite Supervision We are continuing to offer the at school Onsite Supervision Program. The message from the premier remains the same, that all students who can work from home MUST work from home. The onsite supervision is a last resort for those parents who are unable to work from home and are unable to make any other arrangements for their children to be supervised at home. If you believe you require this service, you must contact the school by phone or email to complete a week by week application form. These forms are considered on a needs basis and I will contact you directly once you have completed the application form. Furthermore, we are able to support our vulnerable students, identified as out of home care; deemed by child protection or family services to be at risk of harm or as identified by our school as vulnerable. If you believe your child is in need of this supervision and you meet this criteria, please contact our Wellbeing team.

Is your Lollipop person the sweetest? School Crossing Supervisor of the Year Award
As part of our commitment to the ongoing safety of your students, School Crossing’s Victoria, together with your local council, is looking for the ‘Supervisor of the Year’ 2019/2020. There are seven regions across the state. A winner will be selected in each region, and the overall winner, will be selected from the regional winners. The winner of the 2017/2018 Supervisor of the Year is Margaret Coulson from the City of Greater Geelong and School Crossing’s Victoria would like to enlist your help to boost this year’s nominations. It is our goal to reach as many parents, residents and school staff as possible and by involving them in the nomination process encourage all road users to think about, and reward, the active role the Supervisors play in the safety of their children. Your support of this program will help ensure your Crossing Supervisor is shown the appreciation they deserve. We would appreciate if you could include the attached advert in your next school newsletter. Nominations are open now, and close on Friday 8
th May 2020 go to the School Crossings Victoria website
www.schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au and complete an online nomination. Thankyou for taking the time to read this letter and I hope you will be able to support this initiative.
Over the holiday break QKR will be updating their system to allow parents to amend their profile to show any serious selected allergies (only from the list on QKR), this includes products that hold anaphylaxis problems. Although we do have a no nut policy, we have included nuts on the list. Parents will be asked to update their profiles next term to allow this change to go through on their account.
