Principal’s Report (continued) Collection of Excursion Money
With quite a few excursions planned across the school it is necessary to remind parents about the
procedures for payment so that thorough preparation is planned prior to the excursion date. Changes to
rolls generated by the new LMBR system necessitate the need for accurate attendance rolls in the event
of emergencies, and these rolls must be generated three days prior to the excursion date.
In addition to this, all student medical health care plans and associated medical requirements must be
prepared well in advance in readiness for the excursion. This is a Departmental requirement.
The excursion payment cut off date is always three days prior to the excursion date. Please note that
from here on no payments for excursions can be made after the payment due date on the excursion
permission form. Payment on the morning of the excursion will not be accepted. We appreciate
parental co-operation with this initiative.
New Basketball Posts
At the end of 2016, as part of their gift to the school,
Year 6 students presented money to refurbish the
old and worn junior basketball rings. Students are
keenly watching Bill and Roz Phillips assemble the
new basketball rings on the basketball courts. Here’s
what a few of our junior students had to say about
the newest additions to our playground.
“When the posts are finished, people will be able to
play more basketball games during break times.”
- Maddy
“With the new hoops people can play more games on the basketball court.” - Jack
“We will have so much fun and play more games as there will be more hoops.” - Paris
Last Friday 3/4 T were very lucky when ex-student and
expert basketballer, Kate Bellamy, visited to provide a
workshop for the students during their sport session.
The students said they enjoyed learning new skills and
tricks and that their fitness was really tested. Thank you
Kate for coming along and coaching our up and coming
basketball stars.

build enthusiasm and interest towards the fair students are encouraged to begin wearing Fair
merchandise in the way of T-Shirts, bandanas and cow print clothing. Fair clothing merchandise may be
purchased from the Uniform Shop on Fridays or by completing the usual uniform shop pre-order form
from the office. Students may like to start wearing their Cambe Calf and Craft Fair clothing on Fridays.
Stage Three Skype With Korean Students
This year, as part of the Asian studies program in conjunction with Bomaderry High School, Stage Three
are studying South Korea. The teachers and students will be attending at Asian Studies expo at the high
school on Friday June 16. Every year the expo is attended by many local feeder primary school students
who study a variety of Asian countries and cultures. Our Stage Three students will be studying aspects
of the Korean language with Mrs Parsons from Bomaderry High.
Last Tuesday the Stage Three students were fortunate to participate in a Skype session with two
students from a senior high school in northern South Korea. These students will be visiting our school
later in the year. The Stage Three teachers from Cambewarra commented about how technology
enabled our students to develop a deeper understanding of an Asian school. They added that it was a
good starting point to engage student interest when learning about South Korea and it provided a great
connection between two schools from different cultures.
Stage Three students, Keyarnee and Chloe from 4/5/6M said, “we learnt that the two Korean students
that we talked to are the best drawers in the world. They add so much detail to their sketches. We
thought it was really cool listening to them and learning that schooling in South Korea is so different to
here. They go to school at 8am and don’t finish until 5pm. After school they study each weeknight until
midnight. They have no time to socialise, play sport or have hobbies. They study different languages
such as Mandarin and English but do similar subjects as us such as maths, geography and art. They
were shocked when we told them about our holidays. They get two weeks over summer and four
weeks over winter. They wished that they could get six weeks off at Christmas time like we do.”
Thank you to Mrs Parsons and the Stage Three teachers for organising this valuable lesson.
Stage One Visitors
Stage One students are currently studying local history and were treated with a visit from Chris and
David Evison who have both lived in the Cambewarra area all of their lives. Both men grew up in
Cambewarra and attended Cambewarra School before attending Bomaderry High when it first opened.
The Stage One students were very eager to ask questions about what life was like at school and in the
community over fifty years ago. They learnt that there were only about thirty students in the whole
school and at lunchtime the boys could light fires in the playground and bring pocket knives to school to
cut down branches. On the weekends Chris and David would often spend time on their own in the
bush, staying overnight. They said they didn’t have many toys but would make their own from
whatever they could find in the shed.

Principal’s Report (continued)
When asked what they learnt from the visit this is what a few
students from 1/2H had to say
“They came back to visit our school. That was nearly sixty years
ago. I liked when they said that there wasn’t even a Cambe shop
back then and that the school was in a different place.” - Alexis
“I learnt that the kids would get smacked by a ruler if they were
the last in line. They had to keep a ruler down their long socks.”
- Ben
“Chris said he was allowed to go out at night and sleep in the
bushes, even when he was eight years old. He also had the
job of putting the chickens in the cage so the foxes wouldn’t
get them.” - Lachlan
“When they got into trouble at school they had to stand in a
special spot and not talk. They had to write out a hundred times
what they did wrong so they wouldn’t do it again. “ - Juliette
Thank you to Chris and David for visiting our school and sharing
your local history with us. It is very much appreciated.

Principal’s Report (continued)
Kidsmatter The Bounceback Program - aimed at teaching students the skills to bounce back from the many challenges life throws at us - has commenced in every class throughout the school. The current focus of Bounceback discussions is on bullying, bystanding, upstanding and resilience. Students have been very interested to explore what it means to be a bully, a bystander, an upstander and to be resilient. There have been many lively discussions about the importance of making good and kind choices. So that "everyone is on the same page" the Cambe Kidsmatter Team created this poster - about what these words mean.
Perhaps you could talk with your child/children about the poster and what they learned about in class. Over the rest of the term teachers will go into more detail about how to deal with peer pressure, the impact of unkind actions, the importance of thinking for yourself and taking personal responsibility.
Have a great week everyone.

Whilst year 5 undertook NAPLAN, years 4 and 6 conducted
science experiements. They began by researching a science
experiment of choice and were tasked with creating a
booklet to contain and explain the method, materials
needed and predictions of the outcomes for the experiment.
They produced some outstanding booklets with evidence of
scientific learning.
This is what some students had to say:
“The science experiements were so fun, it didn’t feel like
work” - Nate
“ They were exciting and it was fun to make them and great
to watch other peers conduct their experiements” - Lizz

Name: Rohan
Class: KS
Type Of Calf: Caring Calf
Why: For a Kindergarten student who has only been at
Cambewarra School for such a short time, Rohan cannot
only tell you the school Core Values, he can confidently
demonstrate them to others. Rohan likes to follow the
Core Values all the time at school. He watches out for his
friends and encourages them to follow them as well.
Rohan has already proved to his teachers that he is very
responsible and has an excellent attitude to towards his
learning at school. The Core Value that he especially likes
to demonstrate is Caring. Caring includes helping others,
giving your best effort, listening closely and including
others in games and activities. Rohan says it’s so important to care for each other in the classroom and the
playground.
Rohan’s teacher, Mrs Sturt says, “Rohan always likes to follow the Core Values every day. He lives and
breathes them, and encourages his friends to do the same.”
When asked about what he enjoys about school and the Core Values, Rohan says, “I love playing in the
playground, we play in the pipes. If I see that someone doesn’t have a friend to play with I will help them
out and ask them to play with me. I wait for people by taking turns and I help them do that too. In class, I
love learning to read, I love reading. I try really hard at school.”
Rohan’s friends, Sullivan and Lilly both say, “Rohan is fantastic at his work. We like to play with Rohan
because he is good to us and likes to play safe games. He takes turns and is nice to us.”
Congratulations Rohan for being such an excellent role model for others. Thank you for being such a
Caring Calf.
