We are currently trialling a new student dismissal process at the end of each day to ensure our students are safe when leaving school. I do ask that all parents obey the signage around the school, including the no stopping zone when dropping off and picking up from school. With the building works well underway, parking is going to be more difficult than usual, so please plan ahead, or if possible leave the car at home. First Semester Academic School Reports This week I have had the pleasure of reading every student’s report. I am extremely proud of the achievements of all of our students and the work they have put in this semester. I would like to make special mention of our Kindergarten students, whose reports demonstrate the outstanding beginning to school life they have had. I would also like to acknowledge the teaching staff for the many hours that they put into each report. The result of all reports is a true reflection of the positive connections that all staff have made with WWPS students this semester. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report, please do not hesitate to contact me or the classroom teacher to discuss. University of Newcastle Practicum Students I would like to congratulate Rachel Newman, Abbey Weimer and Jack Whitehead for completing their first primary school practicum. All of these excellent future teachers have connected with our students beautifully and learned some incredible things from our talented teaching staff. I wish all three of these students the best of luck with the remainder of their university studies, and hope to see them back at Wangi in the future. Online Safety Recently, there have been forums available for Principals to attend about the importance of ‘online safety’. As educators and parents we need to embrace the environment our children are growing up in and the future of the digital world they will enter into when they reach the workforce. At a primary school level, it is particularly important that we keep up-to-date with the content our young people are viewing online. We also need to have a balanced approach to educating them with a view of preparing them now, for how they use social media in their futures. YEAR 1/2And just like that we are halfway through the year!1/2B has had a busy and exciting term full of learning and laughs. We are continuing to develop our understanding of the Super Six Comprehension Strategies in Literacy, whole school maths groups are well underway and we are learning how to write narratives using the Seven Steps to writing. Below are some of our scary sizzling starts! We have enjoyed our weekly FISH lessons-this term the focus has been ‘Be There’.

YEAR 5/6 ROCK BANDDuring term 2, Mr Eddy Ryan from Morisset High School has been visiting our Stage 3 class in order to create a Wangi Wangi Public School Rock Band! We have been fortunate enough, with the help of our fantastic P&C, to purchase new rock band instruments including an electric drum kit, electric guitars, bass guitars, acoustic guitars, microphones and keyboards. Stage 3 students are currently working on the rock songs Seven Nation Army and It's A Long Way To The Top. Our first performance will be at Education Week in Term 3. We look forward to Mr Eddy Ryan's visits as it has fast become our favourite times of the week.

IN THE PLAYGROUND

One of the many things I love about WWPS is the way that students from all grades get along. I couldn’t help but laugh as I watched Miss Holden teaching some of her Kindergarten friends and some of her Year 6 friends her groovy dance moves.

It was nice to get out in the sunshine after a couple of days of rain! Look at these happy faces

VISIT FROM WANGI WANGI FIRE & RESCUEKindergarten were lucky enough this week to receive a visit from Wangi Wangi Fire and Rescue. We learnt some very important lessons about fire and how to keep ourselves safe around fire. Students had the opportunity to use the fire hose and were even allowed to climb up in the truck, we had lots of fun.
