OUR HISTORIC OAK TREES Please read the following important message: The large Oak trees (near the Library) will be cordoned off and students will not be allowed to tramp around the trees anymore. This practice has caused considerable stress to the trees and compacted the soil to the point where no water can penetrate the surface. As a result, the trees are under significant risk of becoming irreparably damaged. The trees will be cordoned off until they have recovered significantly enough. Please note that both students and parents will still be able to use the seats around the trees. Please speak to your children about the significance of

these 100 year+ trees to the school and about looking

after them and not picking off acorns, leaves or branches.

Don’t forget to save the date—Saturday 24th May! Our DONATIONS TEAM have been busy knocking on doors! If anyone has contacts with any businesses that may be willing to donate to this fabulous Fundraising Event, please contact us below. THANK YOU in advance!

LIFE HABITS – WIN-WIN

This week’s life habit is thinking win-win. Thinking win-win is to consider both sides of the situation. Thinking win-win isn’t always easy, but if you persevere until the end it will turn out to be a great result. Help each other out in the yard and try to accept other people’s opinions. Always tell the truth and obey others.

EARTH HOUR THANK YOU We are really proud to announce that all classes participated in Earth Hour by not using power from 2.30-3.30pm last Friday, 28th March. Also, a BIG THANKS to those classes that also did an Earth Hour activity. The photos are below.

ICT Leaving a trail : Technology is great, but every time you use it you leave a trace of yourself. It could be in an email, a text or an uploaded image. We speak about this at school, especially in the senior area, where students are more likely to be using social networking. Your digital footprint : Almost everything you do with technology leaves a trace: something called a digital footprint. Your digital footprint is a bit like a map of everywhere you’ve been with your technology - everyone you’ve spoken to (and sometimes, what you’ve said), every image or comment you’ve posted, and every file you’ve downloaded. Digital footprints are very hard, in fact almost impossible, to erase. Here are some examples: Text messages and emails can be saved by the person you sent them to and forwarded to many more people than you ever intended. Students are very familiar with using screen capture to save messages and pictures forever. You can delete a blog, or a comment or image you’ve put on a site like MySpace or Facebook, but you don’t know how many people have downloaded it before you delete it – and a copy is always saved in the site’s archive. Last year we looked at a simple site that traced the history of our school website. We saw pictures of Year 6 students when they were in Prep, proving that, whilst the photos have been deleted they are still available if you know how to look. Even a one-on-one IM chat can turn into a public conversation if the person you’re talking to decides to record or copy it. Technology is great, but you do need to take some care about how you use it. Some online clips that we have shared with students: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/videos/digital-footprint http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9udrvJNTEww https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmwwrGV_aiE

BASKETBALL CLINIC AT MWPS This week the Year 3, 4, 5 &6 students have participated in a basketball clinic run by the AUBD. The AUBD provides a basketball specific Holiday Program that is ideal for busy parents who want to ensure that their children have a fantastic school holidays!
