Product: Whoppers, the original malted milk balls.

Target group: The group I am focusing on is 12-18 yr. old teenagers. I will do this with a new look to the whoppers box that is fresh and more crisp looking.

Brief History: The original malted milk balls WHOPPERS, were first produced as Giants in 1939 by the Overland Candy Company. Eight years later Overland merged with the Chicago Biscuit Company, Leaf Gum and Leaf Machinery. Giants candy was then reintroduced as WHOPPERS. In 1996 Whoppers became part of Hershey. Before cellophane wrapping WHOPPERS were sold two for one penny. Once cellophane wrapping became a part of the industry the Hershey company began packaging smaller WHOPPERS, five to a package, and sold five for a cent. Shortly after “fivesomes”, WHOPPERS began to be packaged in the classic milk carton package.

Redesign Plan: I plan to redesign the WHOPPER package giving it a modern yet classic look. Using colors, which are recognizable to WHOPPERS, I will create a rectangular box for whoppers that will be more appealing to the eye. By giving it a more modern look it will appeal more to teenagers looking for a quick treat. I will keep the packaging, adverstisements, and marketing simple in format, but use bold colors that stand out.
