Contributor Roles

ORCID launched with a contributor role taxonomy specific to academic journal publishing. Researchers could select their role from a pick list, to be displayed with the work.

9 December 2014 orcid.org 4

Current ORCID Schema CRediT Schema author, assignee, editor, chair-or-translator, co-investigator, co-inventor, graduate student, other-inventor, principal investigator, postdoctoral researcher, support-staff, lead, co-lead, supported by

conceptualization, methodology, software, validation, formal analysis, investigation, resources, data curation, writing-initial draft, writing-review and editing, visualization, supervision, project administration, funding acquisition

With CRediT, we now have an opportunity to update this schema with one that applies to all scholarly contributions

Contributor Roles

But… most researchers import works from external sources, not manually.

Contributor role needs to be included in the source information, during the regular publication workflow.

This pathway allows for role validation

Role (with provenance) can then be posted to ORCID using API
