Background:

There is a demand for a high level of competency and skills from the academic institutions in order to compete with both national and international institutions to provide and deliver best academic services. Therefore it is important that the academic institutions and its human resources need to be updated with new techniques and best practices adopted by both national & international universities. Apart from the market demand there is rapid changes in the industrial and economic milieu, therefore educational institutions have to demonstrate a high level of competence and competitiveness as compared to other countries. This necessitate that the standards of education in the Colleges and Institutions should be comparable to the best. Moreover, academic research which is pillar of academic excellence is losing its charm in India, need a relook from the perspective of global challenges and demand.

In this context, an International Faculty Development Programme for the colleges & institutions of Madhya Pradesh is being planned in the month of June 2015. The roles and responsibilities of the faculty and staff in the Colleges/ Institutions assume greater importance in the sense that they directly affect the quality of pass outs and influence the image of college/ institution. With this, there is a strong need to enhance the teaching skills and performance as well outlook of the teaching faculty and senior officers working in the educational institutions.

Rationale:

Traditional learning in colleges and universities is largely comprised of lecture system as their preferred instructional method. Many higher education researches and influential national reports issued over the last two decades have asserted that such educational practices cannot produce the kind of citizens required today by employers and society. The shift from a tradition-based, primarily a theoretical educational process to a research and theory-based process will require not only constant innovation to incorporate new findings about learning, but also the high-quality faculty and staff development necessary to support this innovation throughout each teacher's career.
