製作《昕物》的目的是要讓“業昕人”增加對業昕堂的認識，瞭解其歷史、文化等各方面的發展，藉此讓已在業昕堂住了一定時間的宿生重溫和懷緬我們的點滴累積，也讓剛搬進來的宿生感受住在業昕堂的溫馨和作為業昕人的驕傲。
In the CityU Student Residence community, or inside HSBC Prosperity Hall, you may often heard of this word “Prosperians”. Actually, do you know what is “Prosperians” ?
Prosperians can be abstract. It may refer to an identity. As we are all living in the HSBC Prosperity Hall, we call ourselves Prosperians. It represents a sence of belongings to the Hall. We treat the Hall as our home and we share a strong sense of pride as Prosperians.
Prosperians can be concrete. Just like the English name of this annual magazine is also called Prosperians. The intention of producing the annual magazine is to familiarize Prosperians with the history, culture and recent developments of the Prosperity Hall. It provides a medium for current prosperians to recall their treasured memories and for new residents to experience the warmth and honor of living in the Prosperity Hall.

Editor’s NoteThank you for reading the 9th volume of
“Prosperians《昕物》”
Hall 2 is a big family with members from different cultures and
backgrounds. Yet, it is lucky for us to be brought together in this
residence hall where we collaborate to create a more harmonious
“home” for ourselves. Although the feeling of being a Prosperian is
beyond words, the passion of our residents is revealed between the
lines.
In Hall 2, we organized wide range of events from dessert gatherings
to Annual Dinner. Hall cultures and traditions were developed to
pass on our Prosperity Spirit. Prosperians serves as a remembrance
of our prosperous hall life. No matter you are an ex-Prosperian, a
current Prosperian or a potential Prosperian, we hope our precious
memories in Hall 2 can be shared with you through this magazine.
Life in this hall is full of smiles and tears. Every memory would be
our treasure. Whether it is dining with hall-mates, going out for
desserts or fighting against assignment deadline together, we hope
this magazine could help you to reminisce the old days here and
make you smile. :) 2

The Residence Master is the overall in-charge of the hall. Dr. Kevin Downing has been our hall master and lives in the top floor of the hall for six years. The main role of him is to provide support, advice and guidance to the activities of the hall. He is assisted by a group of Residence Tutors.

I did an interview with two reporters from Hall 2 last week. Are you curious what have we talked about? Here is the script they sent back to me! Let’s have a look!
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE EVENT FOR YOU IN HALL2?
The most impressive event for me is the annual high table dinner. I get to see so many of my students from the hall, dressing in beautiful dresses and coming in nice suit during the dinner. This makes me realize that they are soon going to work as professionals and make me feel proud of my students. I can meet alumni and catch up with them as well.
DO YOU HAVE ANY CONNECTION WITH THE ALUMNI?
I have met some of them many times. For instance, there is

It has taken me awhile to get used to the culture in Hong Kong, but living in hall residence has kept me active and has provided many memorable moments. Like any expatriates, some days you do get homesick, however, I always bump into fellow hall mates and all those feelings vanish as we participate in the various hall activities together. Everyone in our hall is so friendly and outgoing, it is always nice to see all the residents looking out for one another. You can totally feel the warmth of a family within our hall, especially the lively atmosphere in between the hallways and the ongoing events in common rooms. I am very grateful and proud to be a part of Hall 2.

First of all, as mainland student who lived here for four years, Hall 2 is my home. Like many other mainland students, I believe my experience in Hall 2 stands for the process to adapt the new life. From a fresh residence to the residence tutor, I experienced a lot,
different competitions. I appreciate Hall 2 as it offers me a colorful residential life.
Then, I noticed that I could do more to organize and help the RA improve the activities, so I applied to be the councilor. In that position, I think we can do better in the activities through attracting the mainland students and exchange students.
To deal with the daily affairs is one of the duties of residence tutor, in the process of handling them, I understand the HM, RTs, RAs and Councilors’ responsibilities are so heavy. As the saying mentions: ‘It is easy to open a shop but hard to keep it always open’.

There are 24-hour security services for all CityU student residence. Lam Jai (林仔) is the security guard for morning sessions whilst Ling Je (玲姐) responsible for night sessions. They have been in Hall 2 for many years and familiar with most of our residents here.

Synergy 1
Living abroad has never been such a memorable experience for me. As an exchange student at CityU for one semester, I was grateful to be offered a place in Hall of Residence 2. The environment was so good and hall mates around me were helpful and caring. The hall master rendered me assistance when I needed it and I want to thank Dr Downing through this opportunity. Hall 2’s culture has been strong and I am honored to be part of it. Activities like weekly dessert nights,
campus but also around Hong Kong, bringing me to places with delicious Dimsum and attractions such as Ocean Park. Lastly, I wish to take this chance to thank Hall 2 and its members for the wonderful experience and stay provided for me. Hope to see you guys soon!

今年係我第一年加入滙豐業昕堂呢個大家庭，咁我就住1樓(聽聞係廚房設備比較齊全既一層)。岩岩開始住既時候，有好多野都唔識，唔識點用電磁燼，唔識點用洗衣機，唔識點整路由器，不過業昕既朋友好樂於助人，每次我有咩問題都可以搵到人幫手。而1樓既生活亦很好，一開始聽到每個房既人都要整糖水既時候，我有些擔憂，但係宜家開始喜歡上這個每星期都有既糖水會。

I appreciate that they speak to me in English as I do not understand their language (Cantonese) and this has been helpful to me.

每幢宿舍都會有自己的文化，各個樓層都會有自己的相處方式。這是我住了年半宿舍更深的體會。我們不會通宵達旦的玩樂，但會一大清早到東涌行山，感受”日落”之美。今年的二樓繼續是文化交薈的，進進出出的韓國人讓我更了解他們的文化，同時也可一嘗正宗的印度咖哩(但口味之重不是一般人能夠承受=__=)。我喜歡這裡，因為這裡的人和生活模式。即使在生活遇到不快，回宿倒頭大睡，然後到交誼室嘻嘻哈哈又是一天。希望在餘下的日子能夠創造更多回憶，充實大家的大學生活!! ^0^

作為一年級生，第一次離開家庭的居住生活，投入 HALL2 2樓，起初的時間都戰戰兢兢，害怕難以適應獨立的生活，幸好我在宿舍認識到一班朋友，大家一齊食飯，一齊釋放毒氣(玩電腦遊戲)，由一開始緊張、陌生的感覺變得漸漸親切及輕鬆。作為樓主，責任感的擔子令我更能夠認識不同的宿生以及提高我不同方面的能力。此外，多次的處女下海之作亦在HALL2 2樓發生，包括準備糖水會，打麻雀等等，當初的緊張及期待難以用筆墨形容，希望每一位宿生都可以有相同的感受，認識真真正正的大學生活，為自己留下一個難忘的回憶。

眨眼我已經盤踞業昕堂二樓滿近兩年;
今年二樓更活躍，更多姿彩的夜生活，更加開心！除了有益身心的打機聯誼外，對外開放的201A社區中心，尾房亦增添的電視方便一起煲深宵劇。回顧上學期二樓的遠征大澳，本學期遷入幾位新宿生，期待將來樓層的gather ing以及 宿生會既活動！

I have always felt at home in Hall 2, and Floor 2 has taken this to another level. The people are warm, accommodating and extremely friendly. Everyone
have gone out of their way to help me integrate into this wonderful community. A striking feature of Floor 2 is it’s well stocked kitchen. The atmosphere is extremely conducive to gatherings and I have had the pleasure of hosting friends on numerous occasions. In addition, on any given day, the kitchenette along with all the utensils are being constantly being used in a diverse cuisines and styles. Every Thursday, the occupants gather in the common room for “Dessert Night”. For reasons obvious and subtle, familiar and new, Hall2, Floor 2 has become my home, and wherever I go, a piece of me will always remain here.

對我黎講 HALL 2 係一個好NICE同好WARM既地方, 我上年十月先搬入HALL所以無得玩 HALL OCAMP, 本身以為無玩 OCAMP 就好難融入大家既圈子,但原來一樣可以好快就同 FLOORMATE 熟絡, 亦都識到其他層既人。有時見到 COMMON ROOM 有紙牌同麻雀比賽, 黎自唔同層既人一齊玩 GAME 真係有種大家庭既感覺, 有時即使只係企係隔離觀戰都好有氣氛。另外一個好 NICE 既地方就一定係保安啦, 大家都識鈴姐啦, 佢會成日同人打招呼同講笑, 仲成日叫人唔記得帶房卡就去幫襯佢。最犀利係佢會記得住 HALL 2 既同學啲名, 每晚返 HALL 打招呼就變成習慣, 雖然住左 HALL 2 唔係好耐,但都係大學生涯其中一塊精彩既拼圖!

Life in Hall 2 has been decent. The beds are comfortable, the shower is working and the connection speed is decent. I would say that I have all the bare necessities.

University. It wasn’t that harsh than my imagination of hall life. Hall mates
happiness and despairs, we create memories together. This is a place I call warmth, youth, memory. This place make up some of the most unforgettable memories in life for me. They are building part of me, and in fact, moving on with me.
every Tuesday, the girls from each room take turns to prepare it. It is a time
share our special home-styled dessert, and we learn to speak the dialects in different part of mainland China. For me, a girl from Taiwan, it is a really great opportunity to get to know more about the Hong Kong culture. Thanks to

時光荏苒，歲月如梭，不知不覺我們在 hal l2 度過了將近一年的春秋。回想起剛來到香港時人生地不熟，第一次離開父母，照料自己的生活起居。Hall2 讓我們感受到了家的溫暖。每天早上出去上課的時候，都能聽到林叔溫暖的問候；每天晚上帶著一身疲憊爬回 hal l，都能看到羚姐親切的笑容。在hal l里，大家見面都會 say hi，倍感溫馨。Hall莊也會阻止各種各樣豐富多彩的活動，幫助我們更快溶入到新的環境中。每當我們厭倦了 hal l can 的飯菜，common room 里多樣的廚具為我們提供了便利。能夠住到，我們真心感到幸運。這裡不僅給我們帶來了這麼多溫暖，更有一大幫我們愛的朋友們。我們愛 hal l2 <3

數數日子，其實我入住業昕堂只有半個多月。當初曾擔心入住後會較難「埋堆」，畢竟大家從上年一開學的時候便相識混熟，而現在的我貿然要加入這個大群體的話，好像有的突兀。慶幸的是，我很高興認識了志趣相投、友善又體貼的同房和幾個層友，多得她們，我才開始慢慢融入業昕的生活。令我最印象深刻的，就是業昕之夜了。盤菜宴、莊員的表演節目、遊戲和抽獎、拍大合照，這一連串的節目都令我感受到業昕濟濟一堂、充滿溫暖的感覺。希望在剩下來的日子裏可以跟大家一起開心過吧！

能夠畢業之前入住 Hal l2，真的很開心！（小妹第一次申請入唔到，T.T）除咗傳說中 Hal l 2 有“最齊全的common room”，我亦感受到 Hal l 2 的住家氣氛。好幸運自己入住八樓，有“發”的好意頭之餘，我更加喜歡與 floor mate 在一起的時光，好有大家庭的 feel 。尤其對遠在他鄉的我來講，這份“家”的親切特別珍貴。希望有機會一直住到畢業，大家且行且珍惜。八樓是最好的！

轉眼間便在 HALL 2 住了差不多兩年了，往年在九樓認識的人大多都走了。可幸的是，今年九樓有很多活躍的新人住了進來，令整層的氣氛都比往年更為熱鬧。可惜的是，他們很多都是一隻隻夜鬼，每每到了零晨三四點都還在麻將耍樂或是毒在一起打機，令我的睡眠時間減少了很多。縱然如此，能住在 HALL2 9/F 是開心的，因為這裡的人真的很樂於助人，你需要甚麼，只要在走廊大叫一聲，定有人會來助你，希望在我明年離去後，這裡可以保持著這種良好的風氣。

last semester. Everyone is so united as one when shouting out our slogans together. I come from mainland and everyone in Hall 2 is all quite kind and friendly to me. I can feel the diversity here because the local students, mainland students and international students are all having fun in different activities. I love Hall 2!

白馬過隙，日月如梭。今年已經是我（自問都算老鬼之一）第三年住在Hall 2，也是我最後一年。雖然去年我因方便實習而沒有住宿，但今年回歸 Hal l 2 後的感覺都是一模一樣，充滿家的感覺。每個星期的糖水會，每個sem hal l莊所舉行大大小小的活動，都令我重拾青春活力的感覺。每晚一大伙兒都聚在房間互相打 winning、LOL，個個嘻哈大笑，粗口橫飛，熱鬧非常，也貫徹了男層一貫的特色。很可惜，今年我忙於找工作及做FYP, 所以沒有很多的時間和大家一起把酒吹水，但 Hal l 2 給我的感覺都是溫暖及熱情。我十分喜歡九樓這個大家庭。要整甜品、焗意粉等等，九樓都一應俱全，應有儘有。在全幢 Hal l 來講，它的 common room 都是最乾淨、設備最齊全，住在這一層我總是最享受的，也是我今年選擇這一層的原因。希望 Hal l 2 的傳統能保持下去。

在這裡我遇上了另一班家人,一班十分照顧我、關心我的家人。每次落寞時,總會有人敲敲我的房門,一聊就是一整夜。每次肚餓時,總會有人敲敲我的房門,那怕只是一件小小的鬆餅。每次鬱悶時,總會有人敲敲我的房門,勝利十一人、英雄聯盟,甚至紅白機都在門外列隊恭候。入住了十樓,是我經常留在宿舍、留在「家」的原因。

The most unforgettable experience during this half year hall life must be having two Korean roommates in each semester.
got to be more familiar with Korean also HaHa. I can proudly say that I’ve given them a great experience of Hong Kong culture (which is the good part hopefully;)) too! I’m very glad that I can make friends from foreign country here and can keep contacting each other even when they’re backed to their hometown. I’ve also been to Korea during the semester break through our
snow. All this experiences are something that I’ve never think of before moved into this hall. Living in Hall 2 makes my university life become more delightful.

總的來說，十一樓給我一種家的感覺。這一層住的全部都是女生，所以你會經常看到有人在 common room 里煮飯，香味四溢！而且我們每個星期的糖水會也十分豐盛，女孩子們總會做出各種精美又低熱量的食物！女孩兒們的世界單純又美好，你也不用為穿睡衣去鄰舍聊天或者去接水而擔心，哈哈！

入住呵二已經一個學期，感覺這個呵都很能滿足到生活的所需。據所知，呵二的廚具都較為俱全，因而都很方便我到交誼室烹煮食物作三餐。而我住在的十一層亦不乏多種類的活動。如較早前就舉行過燒烤會，雖說當日天氣不太好，但一大伙兒聚起來談天說地，還是能自得其樂。此外，每個星期亦有我十分享樂的糖水會，因每次都很能滿足我口腹之慾。因此，宿生生活可說讓我的大學生活更添色彩呢。

Kuen WuBeing the chairperson of Residents’ Council is a great challenge in my U-life. Last year, I have been the member of the Residents’ Association Executive Committee of Hall 2. I have earned great experience during that time. Now I would just apply those experiences learnt before to contribute Hall 2 continuously and help the Executive Committee “Equal 2” because “Stand on the shoulder of giants” is that what I believe. It is not that easy for me to be a good chairperson, since the responsibility of council chairperson is quite heavy to me

This year, I joined the public election and become a RA council member. What I want to do is to share my experience and feeling with the new committee members. To me, the relation between Ex-co and council is not superior/subordinate relationship. Some people might think council perform as a monitoring organization, control and hold absolute power of approving the proposal of Ex-co. However, what we actually do in Hall 2 is a little bit different. Councilors co-operate with Ex-co like colleagues to make the hall environment and atmosphere become better and better.
In fact, I am very happy that there are many new residents joining the executive committee this year. One semester passed and several events have been held, although sometimes we might be harsh in approving the event proposals, I hope “Equal2” members could see these as challenges

Waking up here in Prosperity Hall, not only should you be ready to talk to a bunch of friends, you should also be ready to speak in trilingual because we have students from different countries!
Prosperity Hall has always been well-known for its diversity and prosperity, which means that residents from different countries are amiable to each other and some of them even became best friends even though their residence here finished.
Prosperity Hall provides residents not only the chance to meet more locals, but also the chance to meet non-locals, exchange students, broadeninging your horizons, granting you the once in a life time opportunity to immerse yourself in immensely different cultures all at once.
In the next few pages, we have invited residents from different backgrounds, an exchange student from America, a student from mainland China and a student from Hong Kong. Together they will show you how awesome residence life here in Prosperity Hall can be.

編：你一開始的時候為甚麼會選擇業昕堂？有甚麼特別的原因嗎？李：也沒甚麼特別的原因，是SRO安排的。不過我相信這是個意外，是個巧合，是個緣份。
編：你有參加過任何由業昕堂宿生會舉辦的活動嗎？為甚麼會參加呢？還有你覺得它們怎麼樣？李：第一個是一開始的迎新營。我參加的原因是因為在大堂的hall莊都非常熱情，邀請我參加，弄得我都不好意思拒絕了。其次就是我覺得我一開始來到香港，甚麼都不懂，有一群local願意還有這麼主動的去幫我更好了解香港，我覺得非常好，所以我就參加了。我覺得這個迎新營非常好，給了我一個很美好的回憶，因為對於我這個剛來香港的內地生來講，這三天能帶我去了香港不同的地方，令我能夠更了解香港的文化還有風景特色，這是非常好的。我也認識了很多不同的朋友，我很多的組員更是現任的Hall莊，例如說Henry還有Yau Yau。不過令我印象最深刻的是我的組媽阿珊，她是一個非常熱情的人，所以我也玩得很開心。
第二個是宿舍舉辦的歌唱比賽。因為我和我室友Moon都熱愛音樂還有唱歌，我覺得我們的合作和配合很蠻不錯，所以就參加了。最後的結果也挺意外的，竟然能拿到最佳組合獎，實在是非常驚喜。
編：那你有參加聯宿舉辦的比賽嗎？李：有，我有在聯宿舉辦的晚宴的表演環節。本來是我室友Moon先參加的，他唱歌非常好，所以我支持他。之後他提議我們組一個組合上去，那我想，這種機會很難得，大一錯過了很可能就不會再有機會了，所以最終我有參加了。我覺得非常激動，因為能夠在一個這麼大的場合上唱歌，實在難得！
編：你平常在宿友會做些甚麼？李：除了休息和看書之外，因為我是普通話辯論隊的隊員，我常在業昕堂地下的書軒和我的隊員開會。那書房的環境很好又漂亮，非常舒服。
編：你覺得業昕堂的宿生怎麼樣？李：首先就是迎新營認識到的組員，我跟他們的關係也很不錯。還有就是九樓的宿生，大家都很nice很熱情，我有問題他們都會主動幫忙。譬如說，我上學期的時候有修一個廣東話課，當時我要做一個oral presentation，我會寫那些字但我不會講，所以我就請local的同學幫我，他們都非常熱心。
編：對你而言，在業昕堂發生過甚麼事是你最難忘的？李：第一一定是迎新營，剛才已經講過了。還有就是九樓的糖水會，因為我可以在其中和宿友學到很多還有認識更多。之後就是聯宿的乒乓球比賽吧！很可惜那一次不能繼續晉級，不過我下一年一定會再參加的！
編：總括而言，你覺得業昕堂怎麼樣？李：我覺得非常好。其實這是我第一次住宿舍，還有離開家這麼久，不過我還是非常滿意現在在這裡的生活！

《滙豐業昕堂落成十周年誌慶》對聯 （舍堂導師溫子祺撰、楊雯懿書，2011年）
文本— 上款：「滙豐業昕堂落成十周年誌慶」下款：「歲次辛卯舍堂導師仝敬立」 上聯：「業精於勤 縱覽詩書希聖哲」下聯：「昕始乎夕 放懷中外究科研」 對聯本為辛卯年（2011年）春聯，後適逢舍堂即將踏入落成十周年誌慶，遂重書並製成卷軸，恭掛於大堂，以資紀念。 上下聯首字嵌入本舍堂名稱。上聯「業精於勤」，典出唐韓愈《進學解》：「業精於勤荒於嬉」。「縱」，解廣泛。「詩書」，以儒家五經中的《詩經》和 《尚書》代指世間群書。「希」者，仰慕也。下聯「昕」有黎明、晨曦義。「夕」是黃昏、晚上。黎明由晚上而來，代表每日周而復始，循環不息。 學業和事業，要勤力才會成功，相反只顧玩樂，人就會荒怠。透過廣泛閱讀有益的書籍，仰慕聖賢哲人的行為和思想，從而增進知識和提高品德。 由白晝到晚上，晚上又到黎明，日夜雖然循環不息，時間卻每分每秒的流逝。實在需要把握時間，孜孜不倦地擴闊眼界，接觸中外先進的科研知識，才能卓立於變化萬千的新時代。

The couplets were originally composed for celebrating 2011’s Chinese New Year. Because of the 10th
anniversary establishment of the HSBC Prosperity Hall at 2012, the couplets were re-written.
The name of our Hall in Chinese are filled in the first character of both upper and lower couplet. Chinese
classics sentences are cited in the couplets.
It is hoped that the couplets can remind our residents:
- Hard working on academic and future career. Keep reading good books and classics, to think
about what the ancient saints said and done, in order to enrich our knowledge and to enhance
the moral standard.
- Treasure the time, not to waste any second and minute. To have a good knowledge on science
and technology for facing the great changes in the modern world.

At Chuncheon, we were honored to stay at Hallym University’s new dormitory. The infrastructure similar to CityU Residence, such as Common rooms, laundry rooms, computer rooms, and double bed rooms.
