Housing Benefit ConsultationKey Points/Feedback from event

Consultation opened 19th July closes 9th Oct.

Why?Gov states HB for people in Supported Housing not workingIssues around “exempt” status conflicting with SL requirementsComplexity etc.

www.surreycare.org.uk

Proposals:Calculated in simpler ways“Cost neutral” not cost cuttingIntend that private landlords can access same level as NfP landlords2 Categories for non registered Providersa) People in Conventional Supported Housingb) People with more specific housing needsRegistered Providers – no real change

Concerns:Simplification fails to acknowledge different costs.Whole range of uncertainties and potential dangers with little detailgiven as to how will work.General consensus that there is not enough detail to form real opinionon proposals.Fear around “typical” costs Vs “actual” potential to be cuts in reality

In 2009, the UK signed the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities which aims tomake sure that disabled people are treated in the same way as everyone else.
