COMMUNICATION DETECTION SAFETY

CAS SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The Collision Avoidance System (CAS) is designed to prevent injury and possible loss of life during the operation of mining vehicles in close proximity to mining personnel. This system provides an early warning indication that alerts the operator to the presence and number of personnel and vehicles in the vehicle’s vicinity.

This system facilitates bi-directional notification and alert messaging against potential collisions between the following:

• Vehicle to Person: Warns vehicle operators of possible persons in close proximity.

• Person to Vehicle: Warns person(s) of possible stationary or moving vehicles in close proximity.

• Vehicle to Vehicle: Warns vehicle operators of other stationary or moving vehicles in close proximity.

SYSTEM OPERATION

The UCAS 430 is the interface between the vehicle operator and the multiple detection sensors mounted around the vehicle. In its simplest form it operates stand alone with a power connection from the vehicle and a single UHF Omni-directional antenna to form an outer zone collision awareness system.

Connecting optional RPOD, DPOD, EPOD sensors in addition to the basic UHF sensors transforms the collision awareness system into a multi-technology collision avoidance solution.

With three dedicated high performance processors the response time, flexibility and user interaction provides an industry leading level of performance and solution. This peer to peer system requires no fixed mine infrastructure but can inter-operate with Becker’s real time tagging and tracking system.

UCAS 430 RECEIVER

The patented tri-technology system (UHF, radar and electromagnetic) provides a scalable system suitable for all customer applications. As the only system globally using all three combined technologies it is the most reliable, robust and repeatable system on the market.

TRI-TECHNOLOGY POINT OF DETECTION

Detection zone threshold distances can be variably set to customer application requirements. By combining the point of detection devices zones it covers both small and large vehicles.

It is not necessary to utilise the entire full suite of detection technologies on all vehicles, performing risk assessments by vehicle types determines the best solution.

smartcomCAS SYSTEM OVERVIEW

This device inter-operates with the DPOD the EPOD and the RPOD. The Tri-Tech Tag supports accident investigation, multi-mode operation (near and far

communications networks.

TCT 3 - TRI TECHNOLOGY TAG

The Radar Point of Detection (RPOD) transmits and receives SHF data packets in rapid succession. The SHF transceivers accurately measure the relatively miniscule

to measure out to 50m.

RPOD – RADAR POINT OF DETECTION

The Electromagnetic Point of Detection Antenna (EPOD)

of personnel tags when within the

transmission signal is only recognised by corresponding Becker equipment like personnel tags. EPODS are not affected by other magnetic

obstructions.

EPOD – ELECTROMAGNETIC POINT OF DETECTION

The unique Becker solution transmits data packets

commands to UCAS controllers and miner tags, The tags can be used to change the behaviour of the CAS units or provide alerts when entering a restricted or hazardous area.

CONTROL TAGS

This self-powered RF device ensures that the existence of vehicles continue to be broadcast even if the ignition has been turned off or battery has been isolated. The battery life is typically two years.

VEHICLE TAGS

Digital Point of Detection (DPOD), is an active tag transceiver with an RS485 interface. The DPOD provides outer zone warnings out to 100 metres.

OPERATOR ERGONOMICS

The UCAS 430 provides a range of alert mechanisms for operators including cabin lighting, voice annunciation and alert tones which can be selected

EXPERIENCE

Becker Mining Systems have been designing and installing Collision Avoidance Systems for 12 years and has in excess of 3,000 collision avoidance receivers and 30,000 tags operating globally today.

TAG DETECTION

The tri-axis electromagnetic receiver ensures that detection is 100% reliable and will never be missed by the system regardless of tag/miners orientation or position. Systems that only use dual-axis receivers reduce reliability.

DIAGNOSTICS

Advanced self-diagnostic functionality provides continuous monitoring of the peripherals connected ensuring equipment is functioning correctly. The operator is warned as soon as a device stops responding to the CAS Controller.

UCAS CONNECTIVITY

Standard unit connectivity includes CAN-Bus to communicate with engine management systems,

USB to down load data log of tag interactions.

SCREEN SAMPLES

Diagnostics are read-only accessible by techs/admin via coded iButtons.

Proximity indications allow operators to familiarise themselves with their surroundings by warning operators.
