Operation desalination plant data:Comparison

30

CRDA

(Kébili)Operation desalination plant data:Conclusions

Water is consumed less than can be produced. This assures the continuity of thewater supply faced to possible increases of the demand

After 2370,6 h of plant operation, there are not significant scaling and fouling onthe membranes, although from the start up chemical cleaning has not beenrealized

We have successfully realized the project challenges: the hard climaticconditions, the high temperature variability (15-35 ºC) and its effects on theequipments, the high Fe and Mn concentrations of feed water, etc.

Challenges of the project - Permanence

To train local technical personnel capable of realizing works ofmaintenance

To implant a sustainable management of the water

Adaptation of the inhabitants to the new resource

Continuation of the institutional support

Correct management of the produced brine

32

CRDA

(Kébili)

Improvement of the living conditions: major social stability andmajor population accession.

100 % of the energetic consumption of the installation, withphotovoltaic solar power.

Not depending on fossil fuels (causers of the greenhouse gases andof the climatic world change).

Principal benefits of the project

33

CRDA

(Kébili)

A successful project for supplying freshwater through a ROdesalination unit driven by stand alone solar photovoltaic energy hasbeen executed in Ksar Ghilène village, an isolated population of 300inhabitants in southern Tunisia.

After more than 21 months of operation the desalination plant hassuccessfully produced more than 4,5 million litres of freshwater in morethan 2,300 hours of operation. The system in this period has produced anaverage of 7,1 m3/day with an energy consumption of 15 kWh.
