Question 3

Reflect on how you have represented people,

places, events in your magazine pages.

Page 2: Question 3 evluation

In my magazine I portrayed the youth as outgoing people with interesting hobbies. This is because my magazine is about music which is seen as a hobby and my magazine includes a list of events of concerts which portrays my target audience as outgoing people.

My main image, which is of Leo, is the main portrayal of the youth in my magazine as it is the first image someone sees. Although he appears to be looking quite tough with crossed arms, I made him smile in the photo so that he would not be a negative representation. I used a long shot of him to show his whole body language.

I stuck to the stereotypes of the youth by using swearing, as stereotypically teenagers do swear a lot, and this can be seen in the interview where the people I interviewed are teenagers and they do swear. This could be a negative stereotype which I have portrayed in my magazine however it does appeal to the target audience.

In the magazine, one place that has been represented is Bedfordshire. I think I portrayed a positive representation of Bedfordshire as the list of events are all around and therefore portrays it as a community.

Overall my magazine portrays people and places in a positive way which is good because it will not offend anyone who is reading it or the local area which is where it is going to be sold. If I was to do this magazine again, or if I had more time, for the main image I would have focused on using more mise en scene such as a guitar on the front cover because the magazine doesn’t look like it could immediately be to do with music and therefore people might not pick it up.
