Help out our Music Teachers on Donorschoose.org—Donate today!
Music Education is a vital part of a child’s school experience and your donation will
be used for years to come. Ms. Maillet’s class works very hard learning to read mu-
sic and applying it to the recorders, Orff instruments and ukuleles. With alto record-
ers her students can expand their musical knowledge by keeping the challenge going
of note reading and learning new fingerings. Due to budget cuts ,Ms. Maillet is unable to purchase
these more challenging instruments for her students. With the higher level instruments she will still
be able to push her students to achieve the very best they can. CLICK HERE to donate today. .
Ms. Lutjen’s Donorschoose project is to help fund new drum sets from around the world for the
class she teaches. Click here to donate today.
Calling all Waddell Shutterbugs! We need your pictures
for the Waddell Yearbook.
Parents/Room Moms – we need your help in order to include as many pictures of your
child(ren) as possible in the yearbook this year! Share your awesome photos through a
free APP for smartphones called Replayit by Jostens. By simply downloading the free APP
to your smartphones or tablet, you can begin sharing saved photos in your gallery or upload new pictures as
soon as you take them! It is so easy. Download the app, search for Waddell Language Academy, connect
with your Facebook log-in or set up account and the photos uploaded will then flow directly to yearbook staff
for consideration. And, if you would prefer to upload a large number of photos all at once, you can also go
to www.replayit.com from a computer. Be sure to tag the photos by room, grade and as much information
as possible. Please help us make the most inclusive yearbook yet! All pictures uploaded will become part of a
digital time capsule of this school year, archived for the next 10 years. Thanks so much for your help in cap-
turing your students year!

Host Families Needed for CIEE
CIEE is looking for families who would be willing to open their homes and their hearts to International High
School students who will arrive in the area in August. This is a great opportunity to experience a different
culture without leaving your home. Hosting a CIEE student can be a very exciting, memorable, and reward-
ing experience for your family. You will gain a new perspective about your community and the world. Stu-
dents are well selected, speak English, have their own spending money and health insurance coverage. You
do not have to have a teenager to be able to host. Students can share a room with a host sibling of the same
gender within 4 years of age difference. Some of our students can pay private tuition.
To apply, go to http://www.ciee.org/highschool. For more info, contact Trish Hasty at (704)661-4765 today
or Email [email protected] CIEE is non-profit.
Consider being a host family and support Waddell’s Intern Pro-
gram
This year has already proven to be another wonderful year for our intern program! Our families have already host-
ed NINE interns this fall and we are just starting to see the numbers for this Spring. This spring we are expecting at
least FOUR German interns and EIGHT French interns – bring us to a school year total of AT LEAST TWENTY-ONE
INTERNS!!! This is up from a total of 14 (10 German, 4 French) during the 2013-14 school year. As many of you
know, these interns play a vital role in our school providing our teachers with much needed assistance and our chil-
dren with a second native speaker in the classroom. This is especially important in the 2nd – 5th grades, where we
no longer have a CMS provided assistant. In turn, our families play a vital role in this process as well – by hosting
these interns while they volunteer at Waddell. You do not need to have a child in the intern's target language -
hosting can be a great opportunity for your child / children to gain exposure to the other languages offered at
Waddell!
In order for this program to continue to grow and be successful, we need the ongoing support of our families. One
of the major reasons we are able to attract so many outstanding interns is that as part of the arrangement, we (the
Waddell community) have agreed to provide housing for these individuals during their internship. Without
Waddell families willing to host, our intern program will not exist!
Please call (704.277.6196)or e-mail ([email protected]) Holly Blackstock if you have any questions
or concerns.

2014 Fun Run!
International Week 2014
Registration for Chinese Language Competition begins in January
The 6th Chinese Language Competition sponsored by Confucius Institute at NC State will open the registration
in January 2015.This is the only state-wide Chinese writing and speech contests in North Carolina. Last year,
over 300 students, mostly from K-12 schools, attended the competition. Over 20 students won prizes, and six
organization awards were granted to schools; awards included cultural items and books ordered from the
Headquarters of CI. This year, to make this competition more fair to contestants, CI has made improvements
over the rules and tested content, and set up immersion and non-immersion groups in speech contest. To ren-
der more support to Chinese teaching and learning in NC, the speech contest adds more prizes, and more
schools and teachers will have the chance to win organization award and receive books, culture gifts or Chi-
nese teaching software. Next week, these flyers and registration forms will be posted on this website:http://
oia.ncsu.edu/confucius
If you have any questions, please email Ms Yang [email protected] or Ms [email protected]
