SCHOOL SHOW AT NIDA

23RD AND 24TH JULYTICKETS VIA TICKETEK

From the Prinicipal

7, 11 and 12 Parent/Teacher evening Tuesday 2nd July 4.30 – 7pm

Please note the first Parent/Teacher evening for this term is on Tuesday 2nd July from 4.30pm for Years 7, 11 and 12. Please note, bookings will only be available online from 2019 onwards. Parents will find instructions in this newsletter. Also, we have two locations for the interviews, Library and Hall. It would be beneficial to book all faculties in the hall first and then all faculties in the Library OR vice versa. This will save parents a rushed dash backwards and forwards between the two. Information in this newsletter informs parents of which faculties are in each location. Please remember to bring a print out of times, your son’s timetable and a list of his teachers! Reports will be issued in the Library from 4pm.

Study Skills – Year 11 and 12

Year 11 and 12 completed another Study Skills session this week. Most of the evaluations were extremely positive. We hope the stu-dents now use the theory in their everyday study habits! Thanks to Ms Loizou for coordinating the program.

Summer Sport selections

Winter sport only has a couple of weeks remaining, including finals. We then move to Summer Sport Trials. Students have been reminded to complete their summer sport preferences. I cannot stress enough just how important this is, as students who fail to submit a sport will be placed in a sport that they may not enjoy. Time is run-ning out, gentlemen!

Walk the Talk program

This week, our Year 10 students began their ‘Walk the Talk’ journey. Walk the Talk is a program designed for school students who are encouraged to ‘give back’ to the community. It is a collective effort, involving all Year 10 students, supporting a Women’s Refuge. This outstanding opportunity has been coordinated by Ms Pappin, Head Teacher Wellbeing, and is an ongoing program of support.

Show Trivia night – Friday 5th July

A reminder to all parents and students that ‘The School Show’ trivia night is on Friday 5th July in the RGHS MPC (Multi-Purpose Centre). This event occurs every year and is a chance for students and parents to dress up and have fun with games and quizzes as well the various rounds of trivia. We would love to see many students, staff and parents attend. Please support our School Show, now in its 29th Year!!

School Show 23rd and 24th July

The School Show is almost upon us! The first three days of Term 3 will see our students, staff, parents and supporters ‘bump in’ to NIDA and then perform two matinees as well as two evening performances. Rehearsals have been phenomenal and the show is ALMOST com-plete! A HUGE thank you and well done to all involved: students, ex students, staff, parents, supporters! The Show is an amazing spectacle. The Show family grows each and every year. Enjoy!

Safety

Could I please remind all students to be alert, aware but not alarmed in terms of ‘stranger danger’. There has been an inci-dent this week where a student from another school was approached and the mobile they were using was demanded. The student was also grabbed around the wrist. Police are aware and have increased patrols in the area. Students need to be vigilant walking to and from school and take care of other students, especially those from Rainbow Street, our sister school RGHS and our students in years below.

Rainbow Street Driveway

A reminder to all parents that the Rainbow Street Driveway is a SAFETY area and parents are not to enter in the mornings or after-noons for drop off and pick up of students. There is a drop off and pick up zone on Rainbow street, just outside these gates. We regularly have students walking through this car park and it is a safety issue for them. Thank you for your understanding.

Holiday

As this is our last newsletter for the term, I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday. It has been a HUGE Term in terms of learning in and out of the classroom, opportunities for our students, assessments and examinations, reports and marking! I hope everyone has a relaxing holiday and remind Year 12 that many staff have organised EXTRA holiday lessons for YOUR benefit. Please ensure you maximise your grades and marks by attending and fol-lowing advice regarding your HSC preparations!

ICAS assessment program

ICAS will return to Randwick Boys’ High School this year. We encourage you to consider entering your child in ICAS. This fantastic assessment program allows students to challenge themselves and be recognised for their academic efforts. The assessment is now fully online and sitting dates will commence in Term 3. Learn more by visiting unsw.global/icas

Early Leavers from School

From time to time, students are required by their parents to leave school early. On all occasions, we require written authorisation from parents to be able to approve this. This is especially impor- tant on sport afternoons (Wednesdays) when large num- bers of students are off site at different venues.

Students should bring their parental letters to the Deputy to get signed. Letters are then taken to the rolls office where the early leave is logged on our system.

Administration

Procedures for students transferring to a new High School

Prior to leaving and transferring to a new high school:

Parents:

Notify in writing or by email that the student is leaving RBHS. State the student’s name, academic year, date of leaving and name of their new high school.

Pay for elective subjects and school contribution.

Student:

Officially ‘clears’ from our school by signing out from his class and completing a clearance form.

Return all RBHS text books and library books (payment is due if books are not returned).

Canberra-Thredbo Trip

This year was the tenth time RBHS has staged our visit to the Aus-tralian War Memorial and the Australian Institute of Sport, followed by a day and a half of skiing at Thredbo. The excursion is open to Years 9 and 10, and students of Modern History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, and Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies in senior years.

Start planning for next year if you’re eligible! Staff attending would like to thank our colleagues for their support in covering our classes in our absence, so that this fantastic opportunity would be available for our students.

RBHS student attends World Championships

Early this year, Nintendo announced the 3rd annual Splatoon 2 World Championships, where regions around the world, such as North America, Europe, Japan and Australia/New Zealand (“Aus-tralasia”) would have a chance to qualify for the world event in Los Angeles.

My team, consisting of top level Splatoon players across Australia, managed to win 1 of 2 online qualifiers for an all-expenses paid trip to the Australasian Cup Final, held in Melbourne. We competed in a first to 5 games grand final against the winner of the other qualifier, with the champion earning a spot at the World Championships. We came back from a 0-4 deficit to tail the final 5-4, winning the trip to Los Angeles and a shot at the world title.

Most of the Los Angeles trip (which again was all expenses paid) consisted of days of filming, press events and more, and of course the World Championship event. We ended up losing in the semi-finals to the now 2-time world champions, the GGBoyz from Japan. Although we couldn’t take the title, overall the experience was abso-lutely amazing!

Walk the Talk!

This week, Randwick Boys’ Year 10 cohort began an exciting jour-ney collaborating with Enlighten Education to make a meaningful and long lasting contribution to our local community.

Walk the Talk is aimed at preventing domestic and family vio-lence through contextual learning, reinforced with concrete actions.

Randwick Boys’ High School is excited to be participating in the three-year program, which provides Year 10 with the opportunity to improve and contribute meaningfully to our local community. We will be working to raise funds and resources for our “adopted” shelter, Bayside, through a variety of initiatives created and led by our Year 10 boys.

Students showed great maturity, creativity and empathy during our training program and should be so proud of themselves. The boys felt empowered and inspired to work together to make a difference!

Leah Pappin Head Teacher Wellbeing

“I liked being encouraged about the difference we can make in a positive light by someone talking in a genuine way.”

“I liked meeting Jack. He’s a good bloke!”

“I loved Jack’s personal stories”.

“Being encouraged to follow our dreams and have ambition”.

“I enjoyed the myth busting discussions because it gave me perspective”.

“I was interested to learn about domestic violence and how people can be afraid to ask for help”.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to make a difference”.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Parents and Carers,

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: year of schooling category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,

supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to: formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational

outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school on 02-93993122.
