RBHS - SCHOOL OF

CHOICE FOR SOMANY IN OURCOMMUNITY

From the Principal

Covid-19 update

There are currently no changes to the current restrictions in place regarding school activities. Please see previous newsletters for a list of restrictions.

High Potential & Gifted Education program at RBHS continues to grow

Our school held an additional High Potential and Gifted Education meeting on Tuesday, via Zoom. Ms McNeil, our Deputy Principal, hosted the event and was extremely impressed with the number of families in attendance and the interest shown by parents of students form Year 6. Details are available on our school website and we encourage inter-ested families to apply and follow the process to be considered for the program. It is also brilliant to see so many current students apply from years 7, 8 and 9. We wish you all well, with your applications!

Randwick Boys’ High School – school of choice for so many Year 6 students in our community!

We have had an outstanding number of Year 6 students apply to Randwick Boys’ High School for Year 7 in 2021. We are very fortunate

to be the school of choice for so many young men in our community. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to accommodate every request from outside our drawing area. Our enrolment panel has met and decided

on the high quality of applications. We thank all who applied for a position in Year 7 next year and look forward to welcoming another exceptional cohort in Year 7, 2021.

Thanks to P & C for applying for a community grant!

Recently, a number of our wonderful Parents and Citizens Association have completed and sub-mitted two community grants. One was for two grandstand style seating platforms for our oval and the other for additional Technological needs in our school. I would like to thank all who were involved in the collection of ideas, completion and submission for the grants. We look forward to a positive outcome to assist the students at RBHS.

Modified sport continues on Wednesday afternoons

A note to all parents and Guardians that sport is being held on a Wednesday afternoon at our school. The activities have been modified for our Grade sport teams. At present, all sports are non-contact and drills and skills based. Our Recreation and house sporting teams have been viewing instructional videos in classrooms. Should your child be ill on a Wednesday during sport or have an appointment, they are required to bring a note, have it signed and permission may be granted to leave at the beginning of sport. Until further notice, Year 11 and 12 may leave at the beginning of sport to complete their indi-vidual fitness regime.

Student exchange

This week Miss Payne and 9EnglishK began an online exchange with students in Norway, conversing about their experiences of Covid-19 across the globe. 9K responded to their letters, poems and stories with kindness and empathy, and will return their own creative com-positions over the coming week. We hope that this will be the start of a positive international learning experience for our boys at RBHS.

RBHS winter sport “returns”

Cool and crisp winter temperatures fell right on cue in the early hours and swiftly changed to a warm & sunny afternoon for Wednesday sport. It was fantastic seeing the majority of sports being able to go ahead at some capacity. The sports that operated were able to be played with modified social distancing whilst improving on drill/skill-based activities.

Hopefully, as restrictions are eased in the near future, sports that operate at external venues will also be able to recommence as soon as SAFELY possible. A special thank you to all staff on sport who supervise and coach our athletes.

2020 NSW Adolescent Vaccination Program for Year 10 Meningococcal ACWY Vaccination

Thursday 18th June 2020 Dear Parent/Caregivers,

The NSW Health and NSW Dept. of Education offers all Year 10 students one dose of the Meningococcal ACWY vaccination.

The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine protects against the four strains of meningococcal disease.

A Parent Information pack and Consent Form was distributed to Year 10 students on Tuesday 19th May. The information pack includes an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement. To consent to the vaccination of your child, parents/caregivers are advised to:

Read all of the information provided. Complete the consent form. Return the completed consent form to the school by Friday 12th June. Ensure that your child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccinations clinic.

Parents/caregivers who wish to withdraw their consent may do so by writing to the school Principal. The Procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation.

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic either as a physical card. The Record of Vaccination will be provided by NSW Health, not the school. Parents/caregivers should ensure that this record is kept for future reference and provide a copy to your local doctor.

Students who have a fever or cough will not be vaccinated, the nurse will perform a pre-vaccination assessment and determine the student’s suitability to be vaccinated.

If your child is absent or cannot receive the vaccination on Thursday 18th June, they will have another opportunity during term 4 2020 to receive the vaccination, depending upon COVID-19 restrictions at the time. On Thursday, 18th June, the South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit, will be at Randwick Boys’ High School providing the Meningococcal vaccination for Year 10 students.

If you would like your son to participate in the NSW Adolescent Vaccination Program, read through the Parent Information Kit and complete the consent form. Your son will need to return the consent form to the front office by Friday 12th June.

If you have any questions regarding the vaccinations, please contact school reception on 9399 3122. Alternatively, you can phone South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit, Sydney Office on 9382 8333.
