RI PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

I find many traditional Chinese values reflected in Rotary: values of service and responsibility, of respect for family and for others. Sometimes I call Confucius the world's first Rotarian, because even though he died 2,500 years before Rotary was founded, his ideas are very much Rotary ideas. In English, you say, "It is better to light a single candle than to sit and curse the darkness."

In 2014-15, I am asking each of you to light your own Rotary candle and Light Up Rotary together. There are so many ways to Light Up Rotary. I hope many of you will choose to host a Rotary Day, to show your community what Rotary is and what we do. I hope you will keep Rotary strong by inviting new members into Rotary – including your own spouse and family.

Perhaps the most important thing we can do to Light Up Rotary is to finish the job we've been working on for more than a quarter of a century: the eradication of polio. We believe that no one should sit alone in the darkness. Instead, we can come together, all 1.2 million of us, to Light Up Rotary. This is our goal -- and my challenge to you.

Dear President Rukmangada Babu and Ann Rupala,

Hearty Congratulations on taking over as the president of your illustrious club Rotary Bangalore Vidyapeeta.

You are taking over as the president of your club at a very exciting phase when Indian Rotarians are recognized all over the world with the certification of ‘Polio Free India ’. This success should give us the confidence and drive us to undertake many more such humanitarian projects.

You have touched the hearts of countless poor and deserving people in the society by the benevolence of your various projects in the field of Health, Literacy, Community and Youth development.

Our International leader Gary Huang says members are our biggest asset and are our most valuable resource. He has given a clarion call to grow in number internally in the club and externally by extension. I urge you to take this as priority. He also says Light Up Rotary is not just a theme for the year – It is a call for each of us to take action and make Rotary stronger.

As you take up the mantle of leadership, Shailaja and I look forward for yet another year of glory for your Rotary club in the year 2014-15 when we all join hands to Light Up Rotary to make rotary a shining example of doing good in the world more than ever before.

I was excited on being installed as the President of this prestigious club last year because the name and fame earned through years of dedicated hard work of my illustrious predecessors should not be inundated. The strength and support extended by senior Rotary leaders and my fellow Rotarians encouraged me to fasten the seat belt on the driving seat and shift the gear with confidence.I take this opportunity to place on record my gratitude to all my fellow Rotarians for their uncompromising dedication and involvement. It will be untrue if I say that I am the happiest person now because there are dreams which have not come true due to various reasons. July is the month of leadership change in Rotary and I hand over the baton to the vibrant Rotarian D Rukmangada Babu. I am quite sure that the health of the club will be safe in his hands because the pulse and heartbeat of each member is keenly under his observation for the last several years.

May the future vision President and his team be able to change the lives of the poor and needy by actively Light Up Rotary. Happy New Rotary Year to one and all. I am back again with Vidyapeetam Bulletin. I am thankful to Rtn. D Rukmangada Babu for giving me this opportunity for Bulletin Editorship.

It is really amazing the way Rotary leadership changes each year without missing a beat. It is not every five years as with most of our political leadership, but annually. The purpose, the continuity and the focus of Rotary remain the same. I am proud to serve as your Club President for the Rotary Year 2014-15, and deeply honoured that you have chosen me. I wish all members of the Rotary Bangalore Vidyapeeta an enjoyable and active Rotary year 2014-15. Each and every one in our Rotary club is a leader by himself and seeks your support to do good number of service projects.

1) Make an Impact in Education: This year all service and fundraising activities will go towards improving education under T E A C H program.

2) Increase in Membership: Membership is very important and I hope each member get one new member. It is not only help to build up the club; we are giving an opportunity to the good citizens to be part of our Rotary Movement.

Rotary International’s successful “End Polio” program that resulted in eradication of polio, totally from India and from nearly 99% of the world, has motivated the Rotarians in South Asia to adopt “Rotary’s Total Literacy Mission”. In India, the Rotary India Literacy Mission wishes to achieve the literacy goals through its T-E-A-C-H program:

T -- Teacher Support

E -- E-Learning

A -- Adult Literacy

C -- Child Development

H -- Happy Schools

Thus, the T-E-A-C-H “program” includes five “projects”, each with specific focus but inter-linked with the others in objective and content so as to contribute to the program goal of Total Literacy accompanied with improvement in learning outcomes of primary/elementary education and spread of adult literacy in various parts of the country.

The Art of Drinking Water- 10 Ayurvedic Tips to for a Happily Hydrated Body

1. First off, sit down to drink (just as you should sit down to eat).2. Take sips, not full-glass chugs. Small sip, swallow, breathe. Repeat.3. Sip water throughout the day. If you chug too much water at once your body doesn’t actually absorb all of it. Most of it will run right through you.4. Drink at least room temperature water. Warm is even better. Cold and iced water literally douse the digestive fire.5. Only sip a small amount of water with your meals. If you drink too much while you eat, your belly won’t have enough room for digestive action. Remember this rule: fill your stomach 50% with food, 25% with water, and leave 25% empty for the digestive juices and process.6. For the same reason, don’t drink loads of water before or after your meals. Fill 50% with food, 25% with water, and leave 25% empty.7. Drink when you’re thirsty. Thirst is a natural urge that should be heeded. It means your body needs water.8. As far as how much, we’re all different sizes with varied diets and lifestyles. One set rule of eight glasses a day simply cannot apply to everyone. Naturally, the miraculous human body has its own built-in measuring system: thirst. If you’re thirsty, drink water. When you listen to thirst cues and sip water throughout the day you’ll be drinking the right amount.9. Your urine is a secondary confirmation to know if you’re amply hydrated. It should be fairly clear and straw collared. If it’s dark yellow you need to drink more.

10. Your lips are yet another indicator. If they’re dry you might be dehydrated. The rules are so straightforward, perhaps even obvious or intuitive. But they might make a serious difference in the way you feel on a daily basis.
