Global Solution Restricted by

equipment costs

Lower equipment

costs allows a

broader base.

Client

New wholesale division of the world’s largest enterprise networking

company, serving global clients with initial volumes greater than 50,000

units/year with significant quarter on quarter growth.

The Challenge

To provide a comprehensive test strategy for networking products to

meet functional specification as determined by “Real World” application

and to meet immediate orders by decreasing TAT and Touch Time.

For the strategy to be successful it must be scalable, re-usable, globally

deployable, transferable to all products, and cost effective.

The Teleplan Solution

Develop a Light Test that will test the unit to operational specification.

• Re-use current code as much as possible.

• Units will be tested for full functionality including internal

diagnostics and traffic.

• Previous customer data and verification of data removal to be

completed.

• All appropriate OS and Licensing loaded.

• “Like” products tested through the same line for scalability.

• Test code globally synchronized to ensure all testing consistent.

• Closed-loop evaluation process to ensure functionality tested

completely.

The Customer’s Benefits

The Light Test is meant to enhance the availability of known good

product.

• Lowered costs increase profitability for products that need minimal

handling and processing.

• Reduce TAT to meet quick demand by end customers.

• Test line scalability allows a greater flexibility to meet surge

demands and volume increases.

• Decreased footprint and reduced capital investment.

CASE STUDY: WORLDWIDE LOGISTICS SOLUTION

P. 15

Challenges: - Customer is having their network infrastucture equipment deployed in Indonesian market;

- Failed OOW repair units are sent to Customers’ European/US Distribution Centers and then forwarded

to repair vendors located in these regions leading to extremely high logistics cost and long repair

TAT;

- High direct repair cost due to repairs happening in Europe;

- Risks and issues in planning local Indonesian faulty/repair stock management due to Indonesian

customs’ regulations/behaviour and long logistics chain, driving warehousing costs high in order to

meet the demand and expectations from Operators;

- Poor repair quality of local Indonesian repair shops used in trials for alternative solutions;

Objective: - Localize screeningand repairs for certain RBS cabinet modules in Indonesia;

- Elliminate logistics cost and time involved in shipping units outside from Indonesia;

- Reduce TAT from 35-40 days to 14 days;

- Reduce direct repair cost significantly;

- Maintain same high repair and “manufacturing standard” testing quality;

Solution: - Develop tailored repair process and dedicated test solutions in Tallinn RBS Competence Center,

supported and signed off by Customer;

- Create needed process/repair documentation (instructions, schematics, BOMs, test plans etc.) to ensure

high repair quality;

- Conduct extensive training to Jakarta engineers/repair technicians both in Tallinn and in Jakarta, transfer

knowledge to Jakarta;

- Program ramp-up is supported by Tallinn engineering/NPI team with their presence in Jakarta;

CASE STUDY : Localized RBS Repair Program in Jakarta

Results: - Program went live in Jakarta in June 2013

- Customer objectives and KPIs are met

26

3 TIERED APPROACH TO RBS SCREENING & TESTING

• Due to comprehensive list of GSM/3G RBS systems deployed in Operator’s network and to

enable quicker ramp-up times, Teleplan proposal is to implement a tiered approach of

screening and testing solution under the scope of this program

• The selection of the most feasible testing solution (Power Up Screening, Front-End-Screening

or Module Level Testing) for certain OEM RBS in Operator’s network will be assessed based

on:

• Quality Assurance requirements and standards set by Operator;

• field return and build volumes according to Operator’s build plan and schedule;

• historical data of DoA (dead on arrival) events and common system/module failures

collected from builds done by current service provider;

• cost factor – higher initial cost and longer set-up times for solutions with higher test

coverage;

• Teleplan has an extensive experience in developing test solutions for RBS

systems/modules from power up screening to dedicated module level test and

calibration systems meeting manufacturer’s specification and standards.

27
