TAWAKKAL CAMPCONCEPT PAPER

INTRODUCTION

Throughout the year, NTUMS and NUSMS design and conduct programs and activities which are aimed at developing its members. Apart from that, NTU/NUSMS also engage other service providers to conduct training sessions for its members. The programs are planned such that they encompass as a whole the 4 different aspects of development, that are, Intellectual, Spiritual, Mental and Physical Development.

Having developed these 4 aspects of an individual is, however, insufficient if they are not strengthened with the sense of familyhood, which, in the long run, will create the sense of belonging among NTU/NUS Muslim undergraduates.

Thus, this ‘TAWAKKAL’ camp is a training camp meant to cover the 4 aspects of development while also instilling the spirit of familyhood among NTU and NUS Muslim undergraduates. In the long run, this camp hopes to be an avenue for NTUMS/NUSMS to thoroughly benefit and be a useful session in their future endeavors parallel to their studies in NTU and NUS.

This year, NTUMS and NUSMS hope to extend the camp with an exchange visit to KARISMA at UIA, International Islamic University in Selangor.

OBJECTIVES

TAWAKKAL CAMP:1. To develop NTU Muslim undergraduates in terms of their intellectual, spiritual, mental and

physical aspects.2. To create the spirit of familyhood among NTU Muslim undergraduates.3. To bring about self-awareness and sense of leadership among NUS undergraduates.4. To bring about camaraderie within NUS undergraduates, as well as with NTU

undergraduates.

KARISMA and PKPIM EXCHANGE at UIA:1. To allow NTU/NUS Muslim undergraduates interact and share experiences as well as

form and strengthen bonds with the fellow Muslim undergraduates in KARISMA and PKPIM.

2. To allow NTU Muslim undergraduates to learn about the study system in different universities, specifically UIA.

3. To allow NUS undergraduates to draw out their leadership skills in part of the programme, and mould ambassadors for the society.

4. To allow the TAWAKKAL camp graduates to rest and relax after a vigorous 2 days 2 nights session.

TAWAKKAL CAMP

Tawakkal camp is a motivational, leadership and team building programme that is designed via adventure learning approach. This programme is conducted by professionals from Malaysia, i.e. Rebutia Learning Sdn. Bhd. This training consultant has conducted the same programme many times for different Muslim organisations from Singapore as well as Malaysia. Some of them include the Young Muslim Secretariat from MUIS (2002) and Singapore Polytechnic Malay Language Society (June 2003). This firm has very close ties with MUIS, that is the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore. The camp itself is among many of other activities and training offered by them.

This camp is very much recommended for organisations that would like to develop their members in terms of physical, spiritual and mental aspects. Most importantly, this camp is specially designed and tailored to build strong teamwork and leadership qualities among the participants. Besides that, it is able to deliver its messages effectively via unique approaches. Examples are workshops, group discussion and presentation and hands-on sessions. At an organisational level, it provides the students the opportunity and ambience to retreat, recollect and re-energise.

KARISMA EXCHANGE

KARISMA, short for Kelab Rakan Siswa Islah Malaysia, is the tertiary wing of JIM (Jamaah Islah Malaysia) with branches in most tertiary institutions in Malaysia like UIA, UKM, UM, UTM and colleges. Recently, in 24 June 2005, a 20-strong delegation of KARISMA came down to Singapore for visits to Singapore Muslim organizations and institutions that share the same vision and mission of da’wah/islah, including NTUMS and NUSMS.

PKPIM, short for Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia is an independent student-based organisation that involves tertiary level Muslim students. They are internationally recognised and have strong links with the Fellowship of Muslim Students Association in Singapore, as well as other student based Muslim organisations in Southeast Asia. The organisation is also a member of the Assembly Of Muslim Youth (WAMY) and the International Islamic Federation Of Student Organisation (IIFSO).

UIA, or International Islamic University of Malaysia is an institute of higher learning that is internationally recognised. It offers various kinds of study of the different fields, ranging from secular studies to religious studies. The student population comprises of students from regions all over the world, for example, Africa, United States, Britain, Middle East and also Singapore. In fact, a lot of Singaporean students from the secular and non-secular background further their education there.

NTUMS and NUSMS being student bodies which are commited to the wholesome development and exposure of its members, strongly feel that this return visit to KARISMA as well as an initiative to meet up with PKPIM, to be held in UIA will further strengthen ties between the Muslim bodies in Singapore and Malaysia, and at the same time, enhance the educational experience of our members through the exchange. Among the many activities that will be done there includes presentation of the institution's academic structure and system, sharing sessions of the many activities conducted there which may be useful for future NTUMS and NUSMS activities. This short session also hopes to allow the students to network with their Malaysian counterparts and also share new experiences which may be useful in future endeavours, regardless as a student or as a working adult.
