  • RECONCILIATION THROUGH THE LENS OF

BBBS Annie Battiste Indigenous Relations Director, BBBS

  • Protocols of Place

Saskatoon is on Treaty 6 territory, traditional

homeland of the Cree, Dene, Lakota, Nakota,

Dakota, Salteaux and the Métis Nation.

We recognize as stewards of this land for generations and we acknowledge this land as

providing for other Indigenous groups that

    moved through here as well.

We affirm our commitment to recognizing the historical and ongoing legacy of the land as

well as to honor the spirit and intent of our

Treaty relationship in everything that we do.

  • Saskatchewan Indigenous Mentoring Partnership (SIMP) is a

movement which Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatchewan has taken lead. The mission for SIMP is to engage, reflect, and collaborate on

creating better outcomes for Aboriginal youth in our province.

  • WHY DID WE COMMIT TO RECONCILIATION?

  • HOW DID WE DO IT?

We committed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission framework for our

    actions moving forward.

    • Call to Action #7: We call upon [Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatchewan] to

develop with Aboriginal groups a joint strategy to eliminate educational and

employment gaps between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Canadians.

    • Call to Action #92: We call upon [Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatchewan] to

adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as

a reconciliation framework and to apply its principles, norms, and standards to

corporate policy and core operational activities involving Indigenous peoples and

    their lands and resources.

  • WHAT DID WE DO?

  • Head: Learning the facts about our shared history

Heart: Empathizing with the history and lived experience of people different from ourselves Hand: Acting: Taking on a commitment to act and try to improve our collective future Q- What can we do tomorrow? What can we do in a year?

    WHAT CAN YOU DO?
