ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are rapidly gaining popularity for sustainable power generation and their growth requires new strategies for the operation and management of the electricity grid to improve the power quality. Power electronic technologies are expected to play a major role in the conversion of these renewable energy sources. FDP focuses on the advanced power electronic converters for renewable energy in conjunction with appropriate control strategies to improve the grid power quality. The trends in the design of the future renewable energy power plants, the implementation of advanced control systems, the latest advances in the field of power electronics applied to RES as well as the grid integration are the main areas where this FDP will be focused. The FDP is aimed at bringing the academia and technocrats in one platform and to discuss the possible solutions of using power electronic converters for our Indian environment. The major areas covered in this FDP are, Understanding of power electronics and sustainable energy
conversion systems. Modeling of renewable energy sources (Photovoltaic, Fuel
cell & Wind) in MATLAB/ PSPICE and PSIM. Design of conventional and advanced power electronic
converters (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC) for renewable energy sources.
Implementation of control strategies and design methodology for Power conversion circuits.
Study about the energy efficiency and power quality. Identification of the key technical issues for renewable
energy grid integration.
