ENGLISH

IB ENGLISH A LITERATURE HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisite: Grade 10 Advanced English to take this course at HLThe A language course should be taken in the student's best language. The focus is to develop students’ skills in both critical reading and textual analysis of literary works. The model for Language A: Literature is the same at SL and HL. The major difference between Higher Level and Standard Level is the number of literary texts studied and the degree of sophistication required in expression and analyticalskills. At Standard Level students study 10 works of literature and at HL students study 13 works of Literature. Fluency in the language is essential for success in this course at Higher Level. Texts studied include poetry, drama, short stories and novels originally written in English as well as Literature in Translation.

IB English A: LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1) Pre-requisite: Recommended Grade 10 Advanced English to take this course at HLThis course develops skills of textual analysis at both Standard and Higher Level. A study of the formal structures of a text is combined with an exploration of the way the use of formal elements and our understanding of their meaning is affected by reading practices that are culturally defined. The English A: Language and Literature course shares many of the overarching aims and objectives identified for the Literature course with an added emphasis on students as producers of text. Texts studied include I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich BoellMaking History by Brian Friel(HL) as well as texts from a variety of sources, genres and media.

IB ENGLISH LANGUAGE B HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisite:2 years previous study of the language for SL and 4 years study for HLEnglish Language B is a language course designed for students with some previous learning of the target language. Students follow the higher-level syllabus although they may take the standard level examination

COMPUTER STUDIES

HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTERS IGrades 9-12 (Credit: 1)This course is designed to consolidate and further computer skills, which were introduced in Middle School, with an in-depth approach to some applications, e.g. Web page creation and multimedia authoring. The students will experience using new applications such as Fireworks, Inkscape and Blender; editing, modifying & combining a wide range of media in an interactive way. The students will gain an extensive background in computing, including basic knowledge of computer hardware components, to further enhance their practical skills. This provides vital knowledge and puts computers in their place in our society today - ‘the social implications of the computerization of today's world.

HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTERS II Grades 9-12 (Credit: 1)This course is designed to introduce the students to new applications and operating systems, with an in-depth approach to some applications, e.g. Graphics Design (Adobe illustrator) and Layout Design (Adobe Indesign). The students will appreciate how they can harness these tools to allow them to communicate more effectively in a world where how we communicate is continuing to change rap- idly. The class will be practical where possible, with students editing, modifying & combining a wide range of media.

IB COMPUTER SCIENCE HL or SLYear 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)This course prepares students for the I.B. Standard/Higher Level examination in Computer Science. Section 1 of the course comprises: knowledge of computer architecture, input and output devices, storage methods, representation of data, binary arithmetic, distinction between hardware and software, levels of computer languages, purpose of assemblers, editors, compilers, interpreters and operating systems. The course teaches an understanding of data structures, problem solving and programming. Section 2 takes the form of practical coursework. Each candidate will be required to submit a programming dossier of his/her works. This will consist of a well-documented program representing the work of the candidate over the two year course. language to students who lack the skills to communicate effectively in English, and give them the ability to carry out the regular school curriculums for all the subjects. Students are assessed and then placed in appropriate programs based on proficiency levels.

The aims of the ESL program are that students should be able to:

• Demonstrate English proficiency through basic interpersonal communication.

• Demonstrate English proficiency through cognitive academic language development in all school subjects including language arts, mathematics, the sciences, and social studies.

• Demonstrate English proficiency in socially and culturally appropriate ways.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES Students in grade 11 have the choice of French, or Spanish offered from Level I-IV. Italian is offered from Level I-V and Latin is also offered at Level I & II.Grades 9 - 12 (Credit: 1)

Level I: This course acquaints the student with basic vocabulary, grammar and some aspects of civilization through the use of a text, audio material and, in second semester, of a reader. Upon completion the student will be able to use the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in real life situations with emphasis on functional expressions.Level II: This course develops the fundamental skills of learning a second language with an emphasis on oral communication, both listening comprehension and speaking. Students also acquire reading and writing skills, and grammar patterns are presented formally but are practiced in functional situations relating to the ability to communicate with an understanding of the culture.Level III: This course reviews, reinforces, and extends grammar through intensive oral and written activities. The emphasis here is placed on reading, analyzing and developing spontaneity in the use of language skills. Students read at least a novel or play per semester and short stories to increase their vocabulary and analytical skills. Essay writing is introduced.Level IV: This course sharpens previously acquired language skills through the presentation of oral exposes, essay writing and grammar review. Students learn to appreciate the culture of the second language by becoming familiar with

CONTEMPORARY LITERATUREGrade 11 (Credit: 1)This course explores major themes in contemporary novels and short stories. Students will read, discuss, research, and analyze literary selections. They will examine authors’ techniques and will gain awareness of how literature reflects society. Students will read and write about a variety of works including literature from different cultures, authors and societies; young adult literature and international School contemporary literature. The course will be to help students become more culturally literate and globally aware while developing vocabulary, reading comprehension, and composition skills. This course offers students the opportunity to develop proficiency in the Communication Arts (reading, writing, listening and speaking and information l i teracy) through engaging contemporary literature from various cultures and styles.

IB ITALIAN A LITERATURE, HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit:1)Pre-requisite: Italian Literature 9 and 10The A language course should be taken in the student's best language. The focus is to develop students’ skills in both critical reading and textual analysis of literary works. The selection of authors and works for language A is made by the school from the IB prescribed book list (PBL) for the language studied and from the IB prescribed world literature list (PWL).The model for Language A: Literature is the same at SL and HL. The major difference between Higher Level and Standard Level is the number of literary texts studied and the degree of sophistication required in expression and analytical skills. At Standard Level students study 10 works of literature and at HL students study 13 works of Literature. Fluency in the language is essential for success in this course at Higher Level.

IB ITALIAN A LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit:1)Pre-requisite: Italian Literature 9 and 10This course is being piloted by the IBO beginning in 2011. The course is de- signed for students who have experience of using the language of the course in an academic context. Language A: language and literature comprises four parts. Two relate to the study of language (language in a cultural context and language and mass communication) and two to the study of literature. The study of texts, both literary and non-literary, provides a focus for developingan understanding of how language works to create meanings in a culture, as well as in particular texts. The model for language A: language and literature is the same at SL and HL, but there are significant quantitative and qualitative differences between the levels. In the literature sections the number of texts prescribed is greater at HL than at SL. In the language section students are generally expected to cover many more texts of all kinds at HL than at SL.

IB ITALIAN B, SL & HL Year 1 Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisite:2 years previous study of the language for SL and 4 years study for HLLanguage B is a language course designed for students with some previous learning of the target language. The main focus is on language acquisition and development

writers of that language and are provided with the tools for textual interpretation. Two books and several excerpts from an anthology are read and analyzed. Vocabulary is studied in context according to themes.Level V: (Italian only)This course sharpens previously gained language skills through oral presentations, essay writing and grammar review. Students deepen their appreciation of Italian culture analyzing the work of Italian writers, poets, playwrights and directors being provided with tools for textual and cultural analysis. Magazines, films and newspapers are used for class discussion and vocabulary building.

IB FRENCH LANGUAGE B HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisite: 2 years previous study of the language for SL and 4 years study for HLLanguage B is a language course designed for students with some previous learning of the target language. The main focus is on language acquisition and development of language skills. These skills are developed through the study and use of a wide range of written and spoken material. IB ITALIAN ab initio (SL) Grades 11 & 12 (Credit: 1)The ab initio language course is designed for students with little or no prior experience of the language they wish to study. The main focus is on language acquisition and development of language skills. These skills are developed through the study and use of a wide range of written and spoken material. The course is divided into three broad themes (individual and society, leisure and work, urban and rural environment) all of which are well suited to fostering an international perspective. The subject is only offered at Standard Level.

IB CHINESE A LITERATURE HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisite: Teacher recommendationThe A language course should be taken in the student's best language. The focus is to develop students’ skills in both critical reading and textual analysis of literary works. The model for Language A: Literature is the same at SL and HL. The major difference between Higher Level and Standard Level is the number of literary texts studied and the degree of sophistication required in expression and analytical skills. At Standard Level students study 10 works of literature and at HL students study 13 works of Literature. Fluency in the language is essential for success in this course at Higher Level. Texts studied include poetry, drama, short stories and novels originally written in Chinese as well as Literature in Translation.

MATHEMATICS ALGEBRA II Grades 10-12 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisites: Algebra I & GeometryThis class is less rigorous than Algebra 2 & Trigonometry and is intended for those students who still require further development of their algebraic skills. This course is designed to reinforce the algebraic skills, to further develop abilities in

problem solving, to prepare students for IB courses.

ALGEBRA II/TRIGONOMETRY Grades 10-12 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisites: Algebra I, Geometry and Teacher RecommendationThis course is intended as a foundation for higher level courses in mathematics. Students will study real numbers and an introduction to complex numbers. The functions studied are: linear, quadratic, trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic, rational and radical functions. An introduction to matrix algebra will be taught.

INTRODUCTION TO PROBABILITY & STATISTICS I & IIYear 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisites: Alg. II.This is a two-year elective course offered to 11th and /or 12th graders. The goal is to provide a basic course in statistics and probability. The fundamental ideas of probability and statistics will be discussed. This course will provide an adequate preparation for the college courses offered in fields such as economics, business, education, psychology, sociology, biology, and medicine, which now require statistics for their effective pursuit.

IB MATHEMATICAL STUDIES SL Year 1 - Grades 11 (Credit: 1)This two-year course prepares students for the IB Mathematical Studies Standard Level examination. The course is designed to build confidence and encourage an appreciation of mathematics in students. Students taking this course need to be already equipped with fundamental skills and a rudimentary knowledge of basic processes. The course consists of the study of eight topics. All topics are compulsory and students must study all the sub-topics in each of the topics in the syllabus. Topics of study are: Introduction to the Graphic Display Calculator (GDC), Number and Algebra, Sets, logic and probability, Functions, Geometry and trigonometry, Statistics, Introductory differential calculus and Financial Mathematics. The program also includes a project, which is a piece of work involving the collection of information or the generation of measurements, and the analysis and evaluation of the information or measurements. The project is guided and supervised by the teacher.

IB MATHEMATICS SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1) Pre-requisites: Algebra II/TrigonometryAll topics are compulsory. Students must study all the sub-topics in each of the topics in the syllabus as listed in IB guide. The topics of study are Algebra, Functions and Equations, Circular Functions and Trigonometry, Matrices, Vectors, Statistics and Probability, and Calculus. The internally assessed component, the portfolio, offers students a framework for developing independence in their mathematical learning by engaging in mathematical investigation and mathematical m o d e l i n g . S t u d e n t s a r e p r o v i d e d w i t h opportunities to take a considered approach to these activities and to explore different ways of approaching a problem. The portfolio also allows students to work with- out the time constraints of a written examination and to develop the skills they need for communicating mathematical ideas. Two pieces of work, mathematical investigation and mathematical modeling, based on different areas of the syllabus, are required.

IB MATHEMATICS HL Year 1- Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Pre-requisites: Algebra II/Trigonometry and Teacher RecommendationThis two-year course prepares the students for the IB Mathematics Higher Level Examination. It is intended for students with a good background in mathematics who are competent in a range of analytical and technical skills. The majority of these students will be expecting to include mathematics as a major component of their university studies, either as a subject in its own right or within courses such as physics, engineering and technology. This course is a demanding one, requiring students to study a broad range of mathematical topics through a number of different approaches and to varying degrees of depth. Core areas of study include: Algebra, Functions and Equations, Circular Functions and Trigonometry, Matrices, Vectors, Statistics and Probability, and Calculus. An optional topic of Sets, Relations and Groups will also be studied.

PERFORMING ARTS HIGH SCHOOL

HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR Grade 9-12 (Credit: 1)In this year-long course students learn about proper vocal production, singing in two or three

parts, and studying music from many different genres and back- grounds.

HIGH SCHOOL BAND Grade 9-12 (Credit: 1)This is a year-long course in which students learn one instrument from the following: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet or trombone. In High School HH Band, students develop their skills on their instruments as well as playing in an ensemble with others.HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA Grades 9-12 (Credit: 1)This course is a practical and academic study in the subject of drama. It is suitable for students that have little or no experience in drama, as well as those that have perhaps already shown enthusiasm and skill in the subject in their middle school years. It is a mixed-class course, with students ranging mainly from grades 9 and 10. The course is an ideal starting point for students considering IB Theatre Arts.

IB MUSIC SL&HLYear 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)This two - year course gives students the opportunity to explore and enjoy the diversity of music of all genres throughout the world, encouraging them to develop perceptual skills through diverse musical experiences which they learn to recognize, analyze, identify and hypothesize in relation to music. During the course students extend their knowledge and abi l i t ies in performance, musicology and composition (using Sibelius software), as well as developing their potential as either solo and ensemble performers, or as composers. The course is suitable for students with or without previous formal musical experience.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

ADVANCED PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Credit: 1⁄2)This course is designed to provide the students with an enhanced knowledge of the field of physical education and health education, including its growth and development, merging trends, critical factors and practical applications. It gives students the opportunity to learn and develop fundamental and advanced skills and strategies of team activities, as well as fitness concepts and conditioning techniques used for achieving and maintaining optimal physical fitness. Students will be empowered to meet challenges and develop positive behaviours in team activities, well- ness, and lifetime activities.

RELIGIOUS STUDIESRELIGIOUS STUDIES 11: CHRISTIAN MORALITY (Credit: 1/2)This course builds on the student’s knowledge of morality systems learned in the previous years. Based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, students study contemporary issues in the light of the Catholic Church’s Magisterium and the need for virtuous living. Students begin to learn how to apply philosophical and religious principles to current sociological, bioethical, and political issues

SCIENCE

CHEMISTRY Grades 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2)This half year course (combines with the Physics semester course) is a study of the inorganic and physical aspects of chemistry. Determination of relative atomic mass as the basis of measurement in chemistry, the Mole Concept and its implications, Atomic theory, the Periodic Table, The Gas Laws, Acids & Bases, oxidation and reduction, chemical thermodynamics and reaction rates are all studied in this course. Emphasis is placed on laboratory skills and the development of independent formulation ofconclusions.

PHYSICS Grades 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2)This half year course (combines with the Chemistry semester course) and introduces students to the main concepts of physics. Topics of study include Motion and Forces, Energy, Heat, Waves, Optics, Electricity & Magnetism and Nuclear Physics. Scientific Investigations form an integral part of the course. The course serves as a preparation for IB Physics.

ASTRONOMYGrades 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2) The semester or yearlong course allows students to discover their place in the universe through the study of planets, stars, galaxies and the cosmos. Knowledge of the universe, and the laws governing its behavior, bring students on a journey of exploration and discovery from local neighboring planets in our solar system, beyond nearby stars in the Milky Way galaxy, out to the confines of the known observable universe.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCEGrades 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2)Environmental Science provides students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and man- made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. Environmental Science is a multidisciplinary science.

HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY Grades 10 – 12 (Credit: 1/2)Utilizes a general approach to the human body with emphasis on structure and function to show the ways in which various organ systems interact. The integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems, and sense organs are studied.

IB BIOLOGY SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Prerequisite: BiologyThe general themes of Biology are covered in great detail. These include biochemicals of life, the cell structure and function, systems of the body, Mendelian and molecular genetics, embryology, ecology, evolution, structure and function in plants. Experimentation in all fields is fundamental and done in great depth. All students take an IB exam after a two-year period.

IB CHEMISTRY SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)Prerequisite: ChemistryThis advanced course provides a more in-depth study of subjects taught in general Chemistry. New topics are also introduced: patterns and periodicity, inter- molecular forces, shapes of molecules and equilibrium. Students should be continually compiling their laboratory portfolios; these are an essential part of this course. This first year I.B. course prepares students for the second year subsidiary or higher level course.

IB PHYSICS SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1) Prerequisite: PhysicsThis two-year course prepares students for the I.B. Physics examination. The course also gives students an opportunity to understand the nature of the universe and its physical laws. Topics on the present syllabus include measurement and errors,

mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity, electromagnetism, atomic physics, nuclear physics and particle physics. Additionally, students are required to study two options – relativity and astrophysics. Conceptual and theoretical work is accompanied by continually assessed practical work. At the end of the first year of the course, students may choose subsidiary or higher level study for the second year. The mathematical content of the course consists of algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Students undertake a specialized project, which requires significant research, lab work and a detailed written report.

SOCIAL STUDIES

UNITED STATES HISTORY Grade 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2)This one semester elective course traces the major themes in American history that have contributed to the development of the distinct and idiosyncratic identity of contemporary society in the United States. This course will follow a thematic approach from the first migrations of Asian tribes across the Bering land bridge to the emergence of the United States as a world power. Written and oral analysis of the issues will be undertaken.

MODEL UNITED NATIONSGrade 10 - 12 (Credit: 1/2)This is a semester course designed to prepare students to participate as delegates in The Model United Nations experience held in The Hague in January of every academic year. Students learn knowledge of foreign policies, UN functions and structure, geography, research skills, public speaking, negotiation and compromise, among others. The skills acquired during the semester course are used directly in the simulation experience.

CURRENT EVENTS AND MEDIAGrade 10 - 12 (Credit 1/2)This is a semester course which explores developments in politics, economics, medicine, religions, ecology, demography, and other areas which may be in the news. Students must follow the news attentively and classes are based on discus- sion of these events, development of news feeds for the school and in making school-wide presentations on issues of relevance to the school community at

large. Importance is given to the development and improvement of media skills as well as the analysis and presentation of actuality.

DEBATE AND PERSUASIVE SPEAKINGGRADES 10 - 12 (CREDIT: 1/2)Few activities develop so many key leadership skills as debating. Through debate one increases skills in research, listening and note-taking, analysis, teamwork, and especially public speaking. We will study great debates and debaters. We will study controversial contemporary issues. Above all we will engage in regular debates. Every effort will be made to begin competition in Rome.

Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Grades 10 – 12 (Credit: 1/2)This semester course surveys a typical free enterprise system with emphasis on the structure of business and how it operates within this system. Topics of study include the laws of supply and demand, microeconomics, macroeconomics, money and banking, competition, employment and income, the role of government, non-government organizations, market structures and global economics. Students will compete in a stock market challenge that includes managing a stock portfolio through the buying and selling of stocks, computing profit/loss, and charting stocks.

IB HISTORY HL & SL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)IB History is a two-year program which prepares students for the International Baccalaureate examinations in 20th Century World History at either standard or higher level. The Standard Level course consists of two parts: an in-depth study of one prescribed subject (Peacemaking and peacekeeping, 1918-36) in preparation for the document-based Paper 1 and an overview of two 20th century history topics (Single Party States and Cause, Course and Consequence of Wars) in preparation for the essay based Paper 2. Higher Level students study additional content in preparation for a Paper 3 examination on three sections of 20th Century European History. Students at both SL and HL are also required to complete an historical investigation on a topic of their choice.

IB ECONOMICS SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)IB Economics is a two-year program which prepares the students for the IB examination given by the International Baccalaureate consortium. The Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) Economics courses are designed to explain individual and institutional behavior in light of economic variables. While the SL provides adequate preparation for the student to analyze intelligently economic developments, the more advanced HL course explores the subject matter of economics in much greater detail and depth. In addition, some material not covered in the lower level is typically included in the higher level course.

IB PSYCHOLOGY SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)This course on the science of psychology is part of the international baccalaureate program of coursework in group 3 and spans two years. Psychology is by its very nature a vast and dynamic subject. The demands of the syllabus are addressed in several ways to meet the goal of the IB learner profile: critical think- ing, research activities and attainment of a specific body of knowledge. Topics covered will include research methods, genetics, cognitive processes, and three levels of analysis: biological cognitive and socio-cultural, abnormal psychology, health psychology, relationships, sport psychology and qualitative research. Since psychology is related to other disciplines such as history, anthropology, economics, and biology, students’ knowledge base will be enriched and broadened with a careful study of psychology at the IB level.

VISUAL ARTS

CINEMA I: MOVIES: The Greatest Art? Grades 10-12 (Credit: 1)The most influential art in the world is cinema and for better or worse we see many more movies than read books. In this class we will look critically at some of the great movies of the last 100 years. We will learn about screenplays and their structure, directors and actors, camera angles and special effects, and much more. What makes a film a classic? Among other movies we’ll see Citizen Kane (1941), The Leopard (1963), Jaws (1975), Blade Runner (1982), and Ava- tar (2009).

DRAWING AND PAINTING Grade 10 – 12 (Credit: 1)This course offers fundamental instruction in drawing and painting. Experimental techniques are the focus of the class where students are encouraged to experiment and to discover their own talents and interests. Many projects undertaken will be directly related to current exhibitions, field trips and/or individual museum research. A preparatory course for IB Art.

BASIC DESIGNGrades 9-12 (Credit: 1)Basic Design is an elective course for Grades 9-12. Students will have the opportunity to realize their own designs whilst researching art and design in the commercial world. Basic design will help students develop their ability to ob- serve, understand and use artistic materials, elements and principles. In addition, it will help students to master necessary skills and techniques needed to make personal statements. Emphasis will be placed on the understanding and application of commercial aspects of art. All projects will involve research as a means to understanding art and design principles.

CERAMICS AND SCULPTURE Grades 9-12 (Credit: 1)In this course students become familiar with basic processes and techniques in both ceramics and sculpture. The ceramic studio is equipped with three kick- wheels, one electric wheel and two kilns. Students learn to use the potter’s wheel and also work on hand-built objects producing functional and non- functional objects. Through local museum research ceramic and sculptural works of past and present are studied and ideas gained for future studio projects.

COMPUTER ARTS Grades 9-12 (Credit: 1)Computer Arts is an elective one-year course for Grades 9-12. The course offers fundamental instruction in creating and designing images and moving images with computers. Computer aided design is the focus of the class. Research into how computers are used in modern design will be investigated. The completion of assignments will combine text with graphics for layout and static image de- sign, and audio with moving image for animated cartoon films, internet Web design and digital video editing. All 11th grade students are required to register for the equivalent of 7 full credit courses, which must include courses in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Religious Education. In addition, students are strongly advised to register for courses in Science, even where graduation requirements in this area have been met. For full information on course selection students should consult the current secondary school course information booklet or the IB program booklet available in the Secondary Office. Please indicate your requests on the attached form by checking the appropriate courses and, for IB courses, circling the level requested (HL=High Level; SL = Standard Level). PHOTO ROME Grades 11 & 12 (Credit: 1/2)This is a 2-year course. It is an introductory photography course focusing on the basic skills of working a camera, and developing and printing black and white photographs. Inspirational to the course is the city of Rome and its environs. Students try to capture on film the concepts of black and white photography asthey look at the great culture which surrounds them. After the field work students print their results and exhibit their work in the school.

IB VISUAL ART SL & HL Year 1 - Grade 11 (Credit: 1)This is a two-year course composed of practical work and historical study as set forth in the IBO curriculum, guidelines and regulations. The requirements for SL are the same as that of the HL course except for: HL needs to produce 25 major works at the completion of this two-year course where SL candidates are only required to do 15.SL candidates have two options – they may either choose option A which is made up of 80% studio work and 20% appreciation/historical research or Option B which is made up of 100% appreciation/historical research.

IB THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK)TOK 11 - Grade 11 Credit: 1/2This is a required course for the International Baccalaureate designed to enable students, through their own objective questioning and analysis, to appreciate the various ways in which knowledge is acquired. These reflections are then applied to the various skills and disciplines to which they have been introduced during their academic career.
