Sales Management CommentsFirstly, I would like to congratulate the Maguet families on the astounding bull sale they had a year ago here in Ste. Rose. They were well rewarded for their product that was the best set of bulls probably ever sold with a Rendezvous tattoo! This cowherd, that has been well developed over many family generations, has evolved into a wonderful bull making factory. The 250 mother cows don’t do it alone -- a great bull battery that has had no expense spared assembles sets of sire groups that are brothers to the highly sought after bulls sold one year ago. I don’t mean to overwhelm anyone by suggesting that the Rendezvous bulls sold for an unrealistic price. As a matter of fact, I think they sold for a very good “value”. The psychology of most buyers towards an early sale in the season is to “wait out” the market. Time and time again I’ve seen the price increase but not necessarily the quality went with it. As the bull sales dwindle, the demand increases as supplies decrease thus causing less “value”. The combination of the early sale date with many same-sired brothers on offer, it would be wrong to not advise the buying public to be very prepared to buy herdbulls on February 13th. On behalf of the good people at Rendezvous Farms, we would like to invite you to the “Cattle Capital of Manitoba” for what promises to be one of the leading bull sale opportunities in Manitoba. What a great investment this bull has been for our herd! Paramount passes on his strong red color and pigmentation to all of his calves along with his tremendous length and square quarters. Crossing Paramount on Kingbuster daughters seems to really work well for us. He has been a very consistent producing bull and his calves have great hair. Paramount’s sons are extremely popular with anyone using Fullblood bulls to add power and performance to their herd. We also own Paramount’s dam, SU Kameo 55K. She is one of the breed’s power cows.

We are proud to be offering another fantastic set of Icon bull calves here in Manitoba. We purchased Icon from Czech Mate Simmentals & Remington Cattle Co and it has been one of the best decisionswe have made. Since we couldn’t attend the sale, Jay Good of Transcon, with his sharp eye for cattle, inspected him and purchased Icon on our behalf. He was the high selling herdbull of the day, commanding $16,000.00. I had the opportunity to view Icon’s dam CMS Melody 03M in the fall of 2008 and was extremely impressed. A deep bodied, beautiful, fault free cow that is a herdbull maker. CMS Red Polled Icon 16P is the homozygous polled, non-dilutor bull that we had been searching for. He is long like a freight train, moves like a cat and is extremely quiet. This bull is exceptionally smooth and has a really nice head, translating into calving ease. The Icon calves are born by themselves, they come small and easy at birth and then just take off. These Icon calves display a lot of style, dark color, length, soundness and growth. Icon’s sons in last year’s sale were very well accepted and averaged $5310, all selling to top end commercial producers across the Prairies and into the Dakotas. The 105L cow is the dam of Robb Farms’ famed 71N cow that has made them big dollars in the last few years. Enough about pedigree and past accomplishments, the IPU Red Hummer 217U bull saw heavy service the last few breeding seasons after seeing how his first crop developed so well. What we really like about Hummer is his large, wide, square made quarters. When youwalk behind him, one can’t help but be impressed with the pair of pants he boasts. His length & scale is another huge selling point. He is maturing into an elite herdsire here at the farm. Hummer’s calves are born easily and at two days of age, they are all the same -- low set and the widest topped babies on the place. Hummer has 18 sons on offer, all from natural service of course. They are truly the “cowboy kind.”

We were really excited about this young up and coming herd-sire, unfortunately, after the 2010 breeding season, we lost Caesar due to a broken leg. This has been a huge loss to our program. Red Caesar was used quite heavily and exclusively in the heifer pen the last two years. With his low 82 lb birth weight and smooth shoulders, both Barry and ourselves agreed that he would definitely work on heifers. Red Caesar is also homozygous polled and features outcross genetics to our 30 years of Simmental breeding. His calves have blown us away, we are totally elated with their development! Devil displays a lot of style and sure doesn’t lack any substance! A real easy bull to work with; he has impressed many astute cattlemen. 2012 will mark the last year for any Red Devil progeny to sell. His calves are small at birth, get up and suck and then go to work, plain and simple. We even used Draco on a group of

heifers this spring, that’s how well this guy works. We would like to thank our friends, Derek & Emile Brunel of North SIDE Farms Ltd., for having sold us this powerful beef bull. Draco walked the pastures for three seasons at North SIDE before making his way south to Rendezvous. The Brunels were extremely pleased with their Draco progeny and felt that he should be used in a purebred herd to help advance the Simmental breed. While doing some research on the pedigree, you will notice the dam’s sire, Kykso Kalger, the K Line in South Africa means pigment, calving ease and good muscle, this describes Draco.

Wade Lund, herdsmen at LaBatte’s, was quite the fan of this young bull and wanted to keep him for their own use. Thankfully, he’s part of the Rendezvous herdbull battery now.

Take a look at this whopping thick made power bull. He’s got a quarter that’s second to none and a back you could have Christmas supper on. This bull is one heck of a meat machine, low to the ground, lots of hair, large testicles and mothered by a tremendous Kingbuster female. He’s been a standout since birth. No surprise, he was one of the heaviest at weaning time, weighing in at 1005 lbs. A full brother sold two years ago as the high selling bull. He was selected by a very astute young cattleman, Landon Poyser of Roblin, MB.

A true powerhouse, this big bull is definitely a sale feature. He’s been a corral favourite among many who have toured the pen. Our auctioneer, Chris Poley, picked him out as a calf and again as a yearling, ending up on his “favourites list” for a reason. This bull has a lot of scale, density and muscling all made into a very desirable package. His depth, length, super thickness and top really stand out, not to mention his eye catching color. Wow! That’s usually one of the first things visitors say when viewing this power bull. Excellent tempera-ment (just like his mother) this bull is going to make one heck of a herdbull. Amazing depth coupled with performance, gain-ability and a great hair coat are but a few things that 437Y does right. This wide topped, big nutted, easy keeping bull is truly the cowboy kind. His friendly demeanour is hard to ignore since he’s usually one of the first bulls to greet visitors in the bull pen. We study our cow families quite closely and it seems year after year it’s the same cow families that always rise to the top. The grand-dam is one of our foundation Kingbuster daughters and she’s put a lot of top end daughters in our program. The great grandmother is still in the herd and produced Lot 59, DBM 406Y. A bull that is developing quite nicely, we can already picture him as a mature bull and I am certain he will be at the top of anyone’s herdbull battery. 125Y fits in with the Fullbloods, even though he is still “red and polled”. He stands correctly and has eye appeal, which never hurts when you’re selling your calves through the ring at the auction mart. We have a few sisters to this bull and they are easy keeping, good milking cows. Our good friend Jim Geisel of Makinak has used a maternal brother with great success in his herd.

When we look up the definition of “easy keeping” in the Webster’s dictionary, the picture of XMR 75Y should appear. Seriously though, this bull is the kind that will survive on very little and still look damn good. When we talk about cattle needing to be efficient, it’s bulls like this that will lead the way. 75Y is low to the ground, very deep bodied and has a wide thick butt. The dam is actually an Icon x Kameo daughter whom has shown us what she can do with her first kick at the can. We’re expecting some pretty good things to come from Rendezvous 441W. Let’s talk a little more about her powerful son...this fella is heavily muscled, long bodied, smooth made and has great bone structure. Use him on some Charolais based cows and the order buyers will be bidding furiously for those calves. We probably should have tested him for the Homozygous Polled trait but didn’t. I’d be willing to bet that he is in fact homozygous.

Sale Feature. Since there are so many Hummer sons in the sale, we felt it was imperative to offer one of his best daughters for sale. This solid red, polled heifer packs a lot of power, she’s wide topped, deep ribbed and has great hair. We have a feeling that she will raise some darn good bulls. Her mother has produced a couple of good young females for us already. One daughter has produced the Lot 78, XMR 547Y bull. Another daughter of 545S raised a $5000 bull that sold in last year’s sale to first time buyer, Maurice Desrochers of Mariapolis, MB.

The lucky buyer was Duane & Jerry Caumartin of Sunville Simmentals. The Caumartins ended up picking a maternal sister to 483Y’s mother.

Quite possibly the best Red Devil daughter that we’ve ever raised, and we are offering her in our sale. A large, solid red heifer with a lot of style and substance. She’s got that extra rib and length plus she’s mothered by a fantastic Kingbuster cow. A full brother sold over the phone a few years ago to a really nice gentleman, Paul Toth of Langbank, SK.
