Introduction
This is a report on a Magnetometer and VLF Survey carried out on claims held by Ross Burt in Frenchville Township, Abitibi Lake Area, Lightning Point Property.
Line Cutting
Line cutting was carried out by James Bay Exploration Services, Ltd. during the period from June 1st, 1997 to July 10th, 1997.
An east-west baseline was established extending from water to water near the north shore of Lightning Point for a distance of 2400 metres. North-south lines were established terminating at the lake shore on the north of the baseline. The first 4 lines were spaced at 200 metre intervals and terminated to the south of the shore line of Lightning Bay. The next 3 lines were spaced at 400 metre intervals and only Line 400E reaches the shore line at 875 metres south of the baseline. Lines 400E, 800E, and 1200E were all cut to 875 metres south of the baseline. Line 1800E was cut 700 metres to the water edge of a small bay on the east shore of Lightning Point. Total kilometres cut were 10.5 km.
Magnetometer Survey
The Magnetometer survey is presented on two maps. Plan l on a scale of l:5000 is a profile map of the Magnetometer Survey; this map was drawn because of the difficulty of contouring magnetometer readings on lines so widely spaced. The second map is a coloured compilation map on the scale of l: 5000 shows both the magnetometer contour map and the VLF profiles. An examination of the outcrops on the north shore of Lightning Point shows that the strike of the meta-volcanics is 10 0 north of east-west and the porphyry dikes are conformable with this strike with near vertical dips.
A base station was set up on the access road and monitored by a base station Magnetometer. The instrument was a Terra Plus 65M-19 Overhauser mag. 432 stations were read at 25 metre intervals.
Results of the Survey
On the Coloured Magnetometer and VLF Map, blue low magnetic anomalies are shown. A possible north-south striking fault is indicated on Line 0+OOW.
On Lines 4W and 6W a east-west striking low magnetic anomaly shows flanking VLF anomalies. This anomaly could represent a carbonatized zone in meta-volcanics. On Line 400E a strong positive anomaly may indicate a north-west striking diabase dyke?
The most important positive magnetic high appears to be a east-west anomaly on XL 800E and 1200E and appears to correlate well with a VLF anomaly and may represent a magnetic pyrrhotite and/or magnetite conductive zone. Hole RBF-97-1 was collared on Line 800W at 75 metres
l- -'
north of the baseline (800W + 75N) Azimuth 360 0 Dip 50 0 length 200 metres. Additional holes may be spotted on other VLF anomalies at a future date.
VLF Survey
The VLF Survey was carried out utilizing a Geonics EM-16 using station NAA Cutler Maine, frequency 24KFIz. 339 readings were taken facing north in July, 1997. The survey was carried out by the James Bay Exploration Services, Timmins, Ontario.
Results of the VLF Survey
The VLF anomalies are all shown on a map labelled Ross Burt Project VLF EM Survey on a scale of 1:5000.
The anomalies are designated by the letter A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J and K, for a total of eleven anomalies.
Anomaly A is shown as being 400 metres in length from Line 600W to Line 200W. In the writers opinion, this anomaly is due to an overburden clay conductor except on XL 600W where the anomaly has the same signature as anomaly B and may well join with anomaly B. Anomaly C is a single line response and is of little interest.
Anomalies D and E are flanking a low magnetic anomaly and exhibit a strong out of phase component and may warrant drilling on L 600W at 475m S AZ 360 0 Dip 50 0 , length 200 metres.
Anomaly F is a single line anomaly but may extend east into Abitibi Lake. Winter lines are recommended to better evaluate anomaly F.
Anomaly G has a direct correlation with a magnetic high and is mentioned in the magnetometer report along with the location of the collar of drill hole R.B.F.-97-1.
Anomalies H and I are in a low magnetic area. H is the better anomaly and appears to have a length of 1000 metres. Location of a drill hole would be on line 800E at 250 metres south of the baseline drilling north at a dip of 50 0 , length 200 metres
The centre of Anomaly J is located on Line 800E at 775 metres south of the baseline. The Anomaly has a length of 800 metres and is still open to the east. See coloured compilation map.
Anomaly K is located on Lines 1200W and 1800W north of the baseline, see plan 2 VLF map. This anomaly appears to be a wide zone of weakly anomalous readings that may be due to overburden clay effects.
Conclusion and Recommendations
All Lines should be extended to the north under winter conditions, as a large aeromagnetic anomaly is shown to be north of Lightning Point under the water of Abitibi Lake. A reading on the lake edge on Line 800W shows a value of 352 gammas above the 57500 nanotesla values.
Boulders from the large granite batholith mapped further north under Abitibi Lake were found on outcrop on the north shore of Lightning Point. Further magnetometer work may show the south contact of the granite mass and should also pick up the strong positive aeromagnetic high lying just north of Lightning Point. Prospecting of the nearby islands and the northern shore line of Lightning Point is also recommended.
This report is respectfully submitted for consideration by Clifford D. MacKenzie, Consulting Geologist.
