    1 Introduction

    =ot too many small businesses like a small restaurant might get used to promote

    their business and also using a system for their daily operation being done! &igger 

    company are well known with their system being used for day)to)day operation

    which will make their business run much better! "s for the small restaurant# the

    businesses have run for almost 0D years# and up until now# they are losing lots of 

    profit since 2 years have passed! This happen due to economic growth happen!

    The attraction for people around is also another factor which brings the restaurant

    may not gain enough profits!

    3conomic growth at Malaysia makes it hard to attract more people to come to therestaurant! Many factors come in term of losing the profits! The restaurant is

    selling many kind of menu with the same price for almost 6 years# and no

    innovation being made by the manager! The manager also wants to make an

    innovation not only on the management# but also gaining more profits so their 

    business can be run which can be passed to the younger generation!

     "s of the project# some innovation will be made so that# it can makes the

    operation on the restaurant running smoothly in term of booking one of the special

    menu# promoting the restaurant to people# and also a system will be made for the

    manager to use where he can view total sales by week# month and years! :ith

    the innovation# the restaurant might continue the business operation and manage

    to get back on track by getting profits and benefits like the first time the restaurant

    1.1 Background of ro!ect

    The 'ekal "badi 3nterprise Roslan Corner is a small restaurant which has been

    opened since 2DD0# and manages by Mr Roslan -thman! /e is a former worker at

    *hell (ort ,ickson as a (rogrammer# and he option from his work and starting the

    business at the same year! The restaurant is selling local food which can be found

    around Malaysia! The most famous menu in the stall is Mee Eawa! -thers# it sell

    1ried Mee# 1ried Rice# =asi 9emak and many other menu! The restaurant has

    only 2 workers# which is the cook and also waiter! "s for any record in inventory#

    his wifeF Mrs! =oor "siah will be in charge and she also as the assistant manager 

    for the restaurant!

    Though this is a small business# but some problems arise throughout the year passes! *ince 2 years up until now# the business have running slow# and when it

    comes to track back on sales that have been done# there are no record can be

    found! "nd not to mention# there are not much of promotions that shows the

    restaurant is selling one of a food which comes from Indonesia recipe! "s of 

    ordering and booking some of the menu at the restaurant# it is possible to make#

    and not to mention# the manager have already have this idea to be adapted!

    /owever# no record has been done and no information will be recorded if an order 

    takes place!

    *ince that the restaurant provided with booking of the Mee Eawa# for any occasion

    based on customer needs# an idea for creating a simple system for the booking

    menu will be done in order for the restaurant to easily keep track on the record!

    This is for the future of the stall so that they can keep running the business!

    *ome of the innovation also will be made for the restaurant! *ince that the

    restaurant only have 4 staff including the Manager himself# a simple way to

    reduce the works of the waiter will be made! *ome research have been done

    towards a bigger company like Ice Room and -ld Town :hite Coffee# an ideas

    came to adapt the services to the restaurant which can help the restaurant to

    have the operation much easier compare to they only have 0 waiter to do all the

    services job!

    In order to solve the problems# certain objective for the project needs to be

    identified! It need to be done so that# the stall might get back their profits and gain

    many customer to keep operating the stall!

    Many small)scale food enterprises is running under a simple organizational

    structure# which consist of the manager who was the owner assisted by a few of the workers! There are many kind of industry for selling foods for eample# small

    stall# night markets# restaurant# food processing industry and many more!

    /owever# all this industry is using the same resources food for their business! The

    usage of resources for food such as chicken# meat# vegetables# and other dos not

    differ on each other at Malaysia! 3very restaurant will use this resource in term of 

    making their food which can achieve customer satisfaction on having it!

    *ome introduction to food industry can be related with Malaysia is# the country is

    full of resources in term of tropical and agriculture which relate with Malaysian

    society! *ince that Malaysia is under "sian country# most of society will aware on

    the nutrition value on each food being made in order for them to enjoy and also

    making sure that their healthcare can be taken care off!

    Years passed# Malaysia have changed in term of lifestyle which have lead them to

    take an etra caution on what they eat and it have also increase the demand on

    food which are convenience and healthy for they to consume every day! ,ue tothat# many restaurants have been opened in term of giving their best menu for 

    customer to eat and enjoying their life once in a lifetime!

    This small company is usually organized in a small business# which can be relate

    as family or single person who wants to open a new company that may produce

    any kind of product that they desire! "s for the location# they can be found on

    *ince Malaysia have three races which was Malay# India and Chinese# each races

    differ their marketing strategy in term for their business to run! "s for Malay races#

    it can be seen around Malaysia# there are many opportunity that can be gained for 

    them to open a small business which focus on food industry! *tall# restaurant and

    others is a simple eample that can be related to it!

    /owever# Malay races have some difficulties on running their business in food

    industry since that# the competition between each other is inevitable! ,emand

    from society on Malay food is also one of a problems and due to that# Malay races

    cannot ventured to a bigger scale in business! It is stated by Melaka Chief

    *ome objectives need to be identified so that the project will know where will it

    lead so that all the problems that the user faced will be solve and making them to

    gain profits on running the business! &elow can be identified the objectives of the

    to reduce multitask work

    1or years# the restaurant waiter will need to write down the entire menu on

    a blank paper! "s for the improvement# a simply order menu will have the

    customer to write down their preferred menu# compare to having the waiter 

    to list down! "side from that# this innovation can easily make the manager easily keep track on how many foods have been sell on that particular day!

    :ith this innovation# it will not only help the operation becomes more

    smooth# but also increasing the works of the waiter much faster!

    the restaurant by creating flyers and brochures

    =ot many people around know the eistence of the restaurant! (eople

    who pass the road might notice it# but it will not make people to come to

    the stall! &y making a simple brochure which can be distribute at the

    restaurant# it can be one of a way which people can recommend to their 

    friends on the restaurant! It looks simple# but it will definitely attract more

    people if they keep and shows on the promotion that the restaurant have

    and provided in order to give the best food and services to the customer!

    attraction on the restaurant! The promotion of the page will be made

    through friends and need their sympathy on sharing to other people on

    what the restaurant provided!

    the ideas to store information related to the restaurant management

    The restaurant does provide booking for its own speciality which is Mee

    Eawa! "s of the project# system on the booking for the Mee Eawa will bemade for the restaurant! "side from that# other menu also will become

    available for booking! :ith the system# it can produce a receipt which for 

    this project# it will be kept for the manager to keep track on the booking

    sales# and also made it easier on recording every booking happen on the

    menu!

    The project is mainly to help the restaurant on improving some of their marketing

    strategy on gaining profits# promoting the restaurant via social netwrok and also

    making the management which focus on booking menu and also making the

    operation of the business to run smoothly where there will be no problems which

    the manager stated# due to the project could solved all the matter!

    1or the project# fact finding techni.ues will be used in order to gain any

    information related with the project is interview# .uestionnaire and observation!

    Interview will be done towards the manager of the restaurant to know what

    problems eist for the restaurant! "fter the interview session is being done# an

    observation will be done to gain etra information on the business operation! "sfor the .uestionnaire# it will be distributed to some of the customers in order to

    gain their feedback! :ith that# it might help the manager to adapt on customer 

    likes for attracting more customers to come to the restaurant!

     "s for the project# the restaurant will be introducing a new way of their marketing

    strategy which simply enough promoting the restaurant via brochure and

    1acebook page! *ocial network these days is used by entire people around the

    world! 1acebook is a simple medium which can be use in order to promote the

    restaurant! &rochure also will be made in order for the customer to have if they

    are interested to come back to the restaurant! :ith some help on promoting the

    restaurant# it might help gaining customer wants on trying the menu provided at

    the restaurant thus giving benefits for the restaurant!

    3ven this company is a small restaurant# many of ideas or innovation can be

    adapted! *ome research that have been done towards bigger restaurant# an ideas

    to adapt what they have done can be implement to this restaurant! "s stated on

    the background project# a simple menu list down will be provided where in this

    case# the customer will need to write down their own menu! *ince the restaurant

    is lack on workers# this innovation will help the services much smooth compare to

    have the waiter to do on many job for the services! " convenient ways might help

    the operation running thus bring to more profits and smooth operation!

    Mee Eawa is the main course of menu provided at Roslan Corner! Most people

    does not know that the restaurant have a service on booking the Mee Eawa if they

    have any occasion! The manager does not have any record on the booking menu!

    prototype system# but some of the function can be use by the assistant manager 

    to record every booking on the menu order! :ith the system eist# it can help

    smoothing the manager business operation and also for him to analyze on getting

    more profits!

    In order to complete the project# some solutions have to be identified in order to

    complete the project objectives! Regarding with it# a simple investigation have

    been made and it can be identified that# to improvise the blank menu sheet for 

    ordering will be change by designing a new menu order by using Microsoft

    Office *ord! " simple design need to be made in order to reduce the works of 

    the staff which will make it more conviniet since that the restaurant is lack of 

    workers!

     "s for the promotion via social network# "acebook will be use in order to promote

    the restaurant! " simple pages that shows the menu provided# services# some

    promotions and others can be seen there! If the customer is interested# they may

    give a call to the restaurant if they have any occasion or other things which

    related to the restaurant! ,ue to current trends for people these days using

    1acebook as medium for promoting their business# 'ekal "badi 3nterpriseF

    Roslan Corner will grab this opportunity to do so!

    The traditional ways to create brochure and flyers for the restaurant will need

    Microsoft Office ublisher  as the software in order to create both designs! &oth

    brochure and flyers need to be made according to user wants and must show

    informative information that people can read and can easily attract to the

    restaurant! In order to gain more profits# more customers are needed so that the

    business can run and achieve the manager target to keep succeeding giving the

    best menu for their customer!

    9ast but not least# to create a system that has the function of booking for the

    menu which is one of the services provided from the restaurant# +isual Basic and

    Microsoft Access will be use in order to create it! It is possible to create the

    systemF however the system being created will only become a prototype for the

    user! "ny information related to booking will be stored# and it is possible to

    produce a receipt for both customers and manager for further use!

    'ekal "badi Roslan Corner 3nterprise is a small restaurant located at (ort

    ,ickson! It was opened on 2DD2 by Roslan -thman# the manager# the founder 

    and not to mention# the owner of the restaurant!

    The owner# Mr!Roslan was once a worker at *hell 9ubricant -il at (ort ,ickson!

    /e was once a (rogrammer before he .uit from his job! /e then .uit from his job

    and start planning on running any businesses! /e plans to open a small

    restaurant where the restaurant will be selling all local food which Malaysian

    people familiar with and some of the menu which can be found at Indonesia!

     "fter several months# with his saving# he uses it to open his own restaurant# which

    was named Roslan Corner! In order for the restaurant to become its own

    company and registered as one of *M3# it was named as 'ekal "badi 3nterprise#

    and not forgotten the name of the restaurant# which was Roslan Corner!

    Roslan Corner has only 4 staff working# which was the manager himself# waiter 

    and cashier# and also a cook! 1rom the very beginning# the restaurant gained

    .uite a lot of number of the customer who comes# and Mr!Roslan manage to gain

    much profits to keep running his business! Years passes# the restaurant change

    the name to 'ekal "badi Roslan Corner 3nterprise due to the collaboration with

    his friend# who owns a small car wash beside the restaurant!

    The restaurant is usually operating only in the morning# from ?!DD a!m! till 02!DD

    p!m! It usually sell local food# which was our country food# such as =asi 9emak#

    Mee Eawa# Mee *oto# fried food# and many more# and basically# it is more focused

    on breakfast food! &ut# customer rates that Mee Eawa as the famous food at (ort,ickson!

    #.( roblems Arise

    *ince 2DD@# the restaurant has a steady business in selling local Malaysian food

    to people# or tourist! &ut# on that year# customers are getting fewer and the raw

    material is getting epensive! Mr!Roslan face with a hard time to keep running the

    business due to he could not afford to pay the fied payment for his workers and

    also himself! 1or the payment# he could pay only based on the profit gain on thatday!

    9ack of workers also caused a lot of customer run away due to they could not

    being served by them! The cashier or waiter is currently taking two jobs at a time

    which makes her busy and could not move around a lot! The cook could not leave

    her position as of the orders will need her to be at her place! The manager has

    the authority to make a drink for the customer and sometimes# he also becomes a

    waiter!

    3very staff has their own task to be done# which makes it not easy for them to

    keep moving around freely! The manager could not afford to hire new staff as of 

    the lack of profits to pay the workers! *ince staff or workers have their own job#

    the only person to move around a lot is the waiter# which has the job as a cashier 

    also! *he will have to move to get all orders by writing it down and it will be much

    difficult if a peak hours for customer to come at the restaurant!

    important factors for the restaurant# such as records on payroll# records on profits

    per day# records on raw material epenses# and many more! These records are

    important so that# it might help the manager to keep track on it and also overcome

    on how gain more profits for the stall!

    *ome of the factors needed the manager himself to figure out what are the

    solutions for his restaurant to keep running! -n this project# some of factors that

    might help the restaurant could give an impact in order for the restaurant to keep

    giving their best services for local people# tourist or other customer enjoy their 

    food!

    focusing in retail businesses# eateries and restaurants! Compared to other races#

    they takes more risk on having a higher or bigger scales of business! This could

    happen due to Malays does not want to participate on the agriculture sector which

    can help them to involved on a bigger scales of business which not also giving

    them profits# but also for the economic growth for the country! $The MalaysianInsider# 2D04%

    *ome of other problems faced by Malays is also one of the problems for them to

    opened up business in a particular industry! It can be seen that Malay races are

    more focus in food industry!

     "side from the statement above# some of the other problems might arise where

    &umiputeras to open any business is due to certain factors! &elow are the factors

    Most of *M3 that run food industry business is using the old or traditional ways on

    running their business! This happen due to Malay races is familiar with the old

    ways on running their business! *ince most of small enterprises might not have

    the latest technology to promote or ways to run their business! It is common due

    to financial problems might lead them to stick on the traditional ways for their 

    business! Technology is costly# and this is why most *M3 does not use the

    current technology to improve their operation!

    makes them to have competitor in the same industry! (roducing food on the same

    type will make them to have more competitors which might lead losses to one

    side! If they have an innovation or new marketing strategy# it might help them to

    gain customer thus giving them more profits to run on their industry!

    This is a very common problems faced by any small enterprise like stall or
