The Kansas City, Kansas RWC office
began work on an extensive three
phase project at the Middle School,
High School and Sports Complex in
Atchison, Kansas, USD #409 in August
of 2004.
The general contractor, McPherson
Contractors of Topeka, estimates
completion will be in the summer of
2005.
The Atchison Middle School original
construction dates back to 1908,
with additions and alterations being
made in 1920, 1951 and 1954. RWC
worked on the building in 1996 and is
currently repairing and resurfacing the
terra cotta, tuckpointing the masonry,
replacing brick, cleaning and sealing
the structure.
An addition is being made to
the existing high school. RWC is
responsible for the waterproofing and
caulking work to be completed on this
phase of the project.
A stone wall around the stadium
seating of the Sports Complex was
originally built as a WPA project
by the local CCC camp. A total
renovation of this wall is being done
by RWC including stone restoration,
replacement, repointing, cleaning and
sealing.
The architect on the project is Wilson
& Company of Salina, Kansas. The
Kansas City RWC office is proud to be a
part of this project to preserve, restore
and maintain these buildings that have
served the community for so many
years.
