“I raise up my voice not so I can shout, but so that those without voice can be heard…We cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” – Malala Yusufzai. Investing in formal education is essential to promote equality of employment opportunities and to strengthen economic growth. It increases cognitive and non-cognitive skills, improves productivity and provides individuals with a greater ability to develop their knowledge and skills throughout their lives. Increased education is also associated with better health in the community. In many developing countries, girls still have poor educational attainments, especially at the secondary and tertiary levels. Achieving gender equality in education in these countries will not only promote greater equality in employment outcomes but also help postpone early-marriages, reduce infant mortality rates and improve health and education of generations to come. We, at Goldcrest high encourage parents and teachers to raise self-confidence by motivating the girl students to pursue their interests. As a parent and a teacher, we should inculcate the value of equality amongst our children and let them realise that gender equality is not the superiority of women but equal status of man and woman. 15 OctoberVigilance Awareness week

The Central Vigilance Commission had declared schools to observe Vigilance Awareness Week annually. The Commission is of the view that the focus of observing the Vigilance Awareness Week needs to be oriented towards “education of customers/clients and the users of the services” provided by various departments/organizations, rather than restricting it to lectures/seminars for the benefit of employees only. The theme for this year's Vigilance awareness week is “Let's fight Corruption Together Let's Contribute to Nation Building” A debate competition on 'Will India be a corruption free nation?' was conducted for the students of Grade 8,9 and 10. Also, Poster Making, Slogan Writing, Essay Writing and Elocution Competitions were conducted for grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 respectively. A Quiz based on awareness was conducted for the students of Grade 9 and later teachers spoke to the students about methods to combat corruption.

We, at Goldcrest High Vashi, celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr. Kalam with various activities as follows:

1. Debate Competition: Dr. Kalam always emphasized on reading. He bel ieved that books are the best companions. Based on the same topic, a debate competition was conducted. Students spoke about how books teach us things and be with us at every step of our lives. They expressed that instead of treating reading as a waste of time, we can treat it as an excellent activity to enlighten ourselves with knowledge.

2. Reading Activity: The school library is equipped with various books on different genres. The students of grade 7 to 10 were taken to the library and were given few books to read. Few students read the extract from 'Wings on Fire' aloud. They were told how reading regularly helps us to enhance our personality.

3. Sharing experiences about the books they have read: Children get immensely influenced by the books they read; they live the characters in the books. Few of the students were excited to talk about the books they have read. They wanted to tell their friends how the books have influenced them and has become one of their favourite books.

“The five S's of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.” An Annual Sports Meet 2016 was celebrated with true sportsmanship spirit on 27th and 28th Oct. 2016. Good sportsmanship provides guidelines that can be generalized to classroom and lifelong achievement. Participation in challenging sports contests teaches children to love classroom challenge. It also teaches children to function in a competitive society. If sports dominate children's lives, children may be prevented from accomplishing more important goals. Students enthusiastically participated in games like races, relay and other athletic games. They showed their skills and enjoyed the sports meet.
