The proofSt Cyril of Alexandria on John 15
Let the wisdom of John teach us how we live in Christ and Christ
lives in us: The proof that we are living in him and he is living in us is that he has given us a share in his Spirit. Just as the trunk of the
vine gives its own natural properties to each of its
branches.
If then you were raised with Christ
(1) If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above,
(2) Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. (3) For you died, and
your life is hidden with Christ in God., (4)then you also will appear with Him in
glory. (5)put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication,
uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
6) Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, (7) in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. (8) But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. (9) Do not lie to one
another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, (10) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge
according to the image of Him who created him,
If then you were raised with Christ
If then you were raised with Christ
11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian,
Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy
and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving
one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these
things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
If then you were raised with Christ
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
the Father through Him.
AffirmationNow he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know
that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has
given us.
I Jn 3:24
Anointed for us37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power,
who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by
the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:37,38
Whosoever…!!!13 Jesus answered and said to her,
“Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him
will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” Jn 4:13,14
Synergia (Synergy)St Cyril of Alexandria on John 15
On the part of those who come to the vine, their union with him depends
upon a deliberate act of the will; on his part, the union is effected by grace.
Because we had good will, we made the act of faith that brought us to Christ, and received from him the dignity of
adoptive Sonship that made us his own kinsmen, according to the words of
Saint Paul: He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.
