The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corpo-

ration (NMMC) has issued notices to all the societies in its jurisdic-tion to clear stagnant water and eliminate the spread of mosqui-toes. The NMMC has requested the society office bearers to look into the matter and take

quick action against the accumulation of water in their respective areas.

It has been observed that in many parts of the city, there are increasing cases of den-gue and malaria amid Covid 19 situation. Many societies have drums, plastic sheds, waste tyres and tanks

without caps, which leads to the accumula-tion of water. These become the breeding areas for mosquitoes and leads to the spread of monsoon ailments.

notice from NMMC’s Health Department.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is

cracking down on en-croachments and unauthor-ized constructions in the municipal area. The Airoli Divisional Office under Section 54 of the Maha-rashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966 sent notices to the builders ordering them to demolish unuathorised constructions made by them. When the builders failed to take notice, the Airoli department con-ducted a crackdown and removed the unauthorized construction. The operation was carried out by

the officers and employees of Ko-parkhairane division along with

six labourers, one gas cutter, two electric hammers and police from the encroachment department.

“Such action against en-croachment will be intensified

in future,” said an official from the Airoli divisional office of NMMC.

All the Municipal Commissioners in the MMR area said that the delay in the redevelop-ment of dangerous build-ings were due to the de-lay in the legal process and due to disputes be-tween the landlords and the tenants. On this, he directed every corpora-tion in the MMR area to consider implementing cluster scheme within its

areas. He also directed to suggest measures for the redevelopment of build-ings that cannot be in-cluded in the cluster plan.

“As there is a prob-lem of unsafe building in every rainy season, tran-sit camps should be set up in every municipal area for the temporary shelter of the citizens living in such buildings, for which funds should be provided,” added Shinde.

He also instructed to

seek help of NDRF if a dangerous building col-lapses. Thane Municipal Corporation has formed a TDRF team, which had done a remarkable work during the Ulhasnagar and the Mahad building accident.

“Every corporation should form such a team so that immediate help can be provided in case of such an accident and the lives of people can be saved by immediately starting the relief work

without wasting time,” said Shinde.

It may be recalled that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recently declared a total of four hundred seventy five buildings as dangerous under section 265 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act after conducting a ward-wise survey. Of these, sixty five structures fall un-der the C-1 category or high-risk.

The new academic year usually starts after June 15th. Teachers from different parts of the city

reach their schools through public transportation. As currently, only essential service providers are allowed to commute by local trains, it will become difficult for the teachers to commute, especially with the onset of monsoon. Hence, the Konkan Division president of Rajya Shikshak Sena Dnyaneshwar Mhatre has demanded the state to allow teaching staff to travel via trains. Since a new academic year will be starting, there will be many paper work that needs to be completed which will need the teacher to visit the schools often. Traveling by train makes it easier. It also saves time and money. Rajya Shikshak Sena expects positive response from the state.

The implementation of Navi Mumbai

Airport Influenced No-tified Area (NAINA) project to be developed over 371 sq km land sur-rounding Navi Mumbai International Airport, is being done at fast pace. Among the eleven town planning schemes pro-posed under this project, plan 1-3 are being imple-mented at various levels. The City and Industrial Development Corpora-tion (CIDCO) has ap-pealed the land owners under plan no. 4-11 to submit their consent letters at the earliest for prioritizing the development.

"CIDCO aims for fast and transpar-ent development of NAINA town devel-opment plans. This project will prove to be unique in town development sector, along with the participa-tion and cooperation of land owners," said Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and MD, CI-DCO.

To prevent the hap-hazard development in the surrounding areas of Navi Mumbai Interna-tional Airport, CIDCO has proposed to develop NAINA over 371 sq km area covering 175 vil-lages of Raigad. CIDCO will be developing this environment friend-ly, modern and well

planned equipped with residential, commercial, educational, etc. facili-ties. CIDCO will act as a facilitator for this project.

Since pre-freedom period, Maharashtra has been in forefront in the development of cities through town develop-ment plans. Thus, for faster and more effec-tive implementation, the state government has decided to implement NAINA project through the existing town devel-opment plans under the

Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 and further instructed CIDCO to prepare developmental plans for the project. The main feature of town development plans under NAINA project is that it will be developed through participatory basis than land acquisi-tion. The land owners under this scheme will contribute equal lands. Land owners coming under town planning scheme will get 40% developed plot from

their original land and the carpet area will be the same as the original land. Thus, land own-ers will gain complete return on their lands. CI-DCO will develop roads, playground, schools, gardens, growth centres, etc. facilities over the re-maining 60% land. Land owners will surely get 40% of their land, even if the land is affected by any reservation.

The development of 23 villages mentioned in the layout of the ap-proved Interim Devel-

opment Plan will be done through 11 Town Planning Schemes (TPS). Among them, TPS 1 to 3 are approved and are being im-plemented at vari-ous levels. The state government has ap-proved TPS 1 at pre-

liminary stage. CIDCO has appealed the land owners to submit con-sent letters at the earli-est, to undertake the im-plementation of TPS no. 4 to 11 at priority con-sidering the demand of land owners and further to fast track the infra-structural development. This step will also ben-efit the land owners as they will able to under-take development works on the land allotted to them and gain positive demand for those land at the earliest.

With an aim to speed up vacci-

nation drive, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor-poration (NMMC) has decided to start twenty two new vaccination centers from June 16. Vaccinations will be ad-ministered free of cost at these centres.

“At present NMMC has thirty four vaccina-tion centres in opera-tion. Twenty two new vaccination centers are being set up to make it easier for the citizens to get vaccinated near their homes. There is a plan to increase more centres in future as per the requirement,” said NMMC Commissioner, Abhijit Bangar.

Did you know that 60–90% of school-

children and nearly 100% adults have tooth decay globally? Ac-cording to the Global Burden of Disease, untreated dental car-ies (tooth decay) is the most common health condition affecting al-most 45-50% of the total world population. So be smart, don’t de-lay that decay! What is dental caries?

Commonly known as tooth decay or cavity, dental caries is caused due to breakdown of the enamel surface leading to formation of holes in the teeth.

How do I know if I have dental caries?

Initial decay may present as a black dis-colouration on the tooth. As the hole be-comes bigger, it causes

food lodgement be-tween teeth. Ignoring it can spread the decay further infecting the nerves within. This causes pain and sensi-tivity to sweet, hot and cold food or beverages. The pain may become continuous, radiate to the ear and head and can also increase on biting or lying down. Extreme cases can progress to swelling on the face due to pus and infection which spreads to the gums and bones warranting removal of the tooth.

Children’s milk teeth are extremely sus-ceptible to decay. But why bother if they will get permanent teeth eventually? Decay in milk teeth can also spread decay to your child’s permanent teeth. If milk teeth are lost prematurely they can affect the positioning of permanent teeth. Decay in milk teeth appears as white spots at the gum line on the upper front teeth. They may be dif-ficult to spot and hence should be examined for

very carefully.What Causes dental

caries?• Improper brushing

habits.• Malpositioned teeth

which make brush-

ing difficult.• Tartar which allows

bacteria to multiply and attack the sur-face.

• Acid attack due to aerated drinks, ar-tificial sweeteners, preservatives in bot-tled juices.

• Dry mouth allowing bacteria to grow on the tooth surface.

What are my treat-ment options?

• SEALANTS: Initial decay and stains can

be sealed off using sealant materials to prevent further de-cay.

• FILLING: Filling (restoration) is a process wherein the

decayed part of the tooth is removed and replaced with a material which usually resembles the colour of the tooth.• ROOT CA-NAL TREAT-MENT: When the decay reaches the

nerves within the tooth, a root canal treatment is needed. It involves removal of the infected nerve within the tooth, cleaning of the ca-nals and filling them with permanent fill-ing material and covering the tooth with a crown.

• E X T R A C T I O N : If the tooth is very badly decayed, it will have to be re-moved and then re-

placed with options such as a dental im-plant or a bridge.

How do I prevent dental caries?

• RINSE: Rinsing af-ter every meal.

• BRUSHING: Twice daily brushing.

• TOOTHPASTE: Fluoridated tooth-pastes strengthen the tooth surface.

• VISIT TO THE DENTIST: Initial decay may remain unnoticed until it spreads deeper and causes pain. Hence, a dental visit ev-ery 6 months can help keep a check on your teeth and gums. Patients with dry mouth should approach the dentist for solutions.

• DIET: Avoid sticky and sweet food items, canned juices and soda. Fibre rich fruits and vegeta-bles, sugar-free gum can be a better sub-stitute to food crav-ings.

• CHILD ORAL CARE: Baby teeth should be wiped

with a clean moist muslin cloth so avoid any remnants of milk on the sur-faces. This should be done especially if your baby falls asleep while feed-ing. Children older than 1.5 -2 years should be taught to brush their teeth with a small kids toothbrush with a fluoridated tooth-paste meant for chil-dren until the age of 6-7 years. Avoid sipper bottles for long periods. Drink-ing fresh fruit juices along with meals is a good practice. You cannot ban but limit sugars and sweets making sure they rinse every time. Lastly, young chil-dren prone to decay should visit the den-tist for professional application of fluo-rides.Let that smile shine

As the dusk sets in, Khandesh-war Railway station gets

plunged in darkness. The street lights outside the railway sta-tion have become non-functional after the few spells of shower. Khandeshwar Railway station is located away from the residential areas and the commuters have to walk to a distance to find buses and auto rickshaws. In such a sce-nario, it is highly risky to walk in the evening, say the commuters.

A resident of Khandeshwar, Siddhi Soni said, “Not having proper street light facilities can be risky considering the whole area is like an open ground and there are no other establishments around the area. People feel un-

safe as the street lights are not functioning properly. These street lights need to be checked upon

regularly because they can cause trouble for the daily commuters in the area. The CIDCO officials and the Panvel City Municipal Corpo-ration should rectify the issue as

soon as possible”.Another resident A N Krish-

nan said, “My daughter is a nurse and works in south Bombay. I usually prefer to pick her up once she is back at Khandeshwar sta-tion. It makes me feel anxious if the street lights are not working as it can be risky for any woman or in fact any person walking from there. We are not aware if any miscreant might take advantage of not having street lights in the area. As a parent and as a respon-sible resident, I believe the civic body should work on repairing these lights specially during the monsoon as potholes and dug up road can be present anywhere and residents might trip over them due to less visibility in the area.”

David Allen, an American pro-

ductivity consultant rightly said: “Just like a computer, your brain has a search function — but it’s even more phenomenal than a computer’s. It seems to be programmed by what we focus on and, more primarily, what we identify with. It’s the seat of what many people have referred to as the paradigms we maintain.”

If someone is con-stantly thinking nega-tive thoughts, it is be-cause a program inside us ( RAS ) is trained / filtered to negative piece of data that proves that people are bad and we are doomed.

If someone is opti-mistic and more posi-tive, it’s because your program is more solu-tions focused instead of problems, good news instead of bad so on and so forth.

Our program is trained over a period of time and experiences

consciously or uncon-sciously to filter certain information in certain ways. It simply filters reality according to your parameters. This is Reticular Activating System (RAS)

Role of RAS strengthens our belief system. Two people exactly experiencing the same situation see it (experience) it dif-ferently and so react or respond to it the way they perceive it. It's miraculous. This means we have control over programming our program in RAS.

Well, something else is happening now a days / month and for over a year now because of covid and lock-down, news and facts relating to pro-gramming RAS in a strong way.

It is possible to take control with deliberate efforts. Priming yes priming ourselves to relax and remain on the positive side of things.

Priming is the easi-est way to keep oneself positive and alter RAS and even re-program if. But it is not voodoo science and cannot be done overnight. Prim-ing must be done us-ing all senses, pictures, sounds, smell and

touch. All elements can be used to create strong priming signals to train and program RAS for success and relaxed life. We teach priming and such life-long skills at Zoetic-Sutra to help you learn and more importantly unlearn thinking pat-terns and prepare you for success. We use verified methods for impactful results.

What you wish to program your RAS to do, present effec-tively, build leader-ship, wealth, ace an interview, have great relationships, reduce weight or anything else.

You can do it and this skill will last all your life. It's not a trick or a trick. It is key to building habits for life and also letting go of unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaviour. There are no short-cuts to this work but once done it requires mini-mum maintenance.

Navi Mumbai may experience heavy

rainfall in next two days. The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has warned that the rainfall is likely to follow the ascending pattern from light to moderate on Wednesday and it will intensify on 17th & 18th June, 2021.

“There is a possibil-ity of intense spells of rain, mainly towards the island city, in areas like Colaba, CSMT, Worli and adjoining parts for two-three hours”, tweet-ed KS Hosalikar, Scien-

tist, IMD. The satellite city

was already hit with heavy rainfall last week. Many areas faced water logging issues as well. Many parts of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Thane recorded a light rainfall on Tuesday morning.

“We have our emer-gency team ready to tackle any type of situa-tion during heavy rains. We will continue with the same for the next four months”, said one of the officials from Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor-poration (NMMC).

“The trains will be

halted if the tracks are again filled with water due to heavy rainfall”, said Rassam Chan-drashekar, Head TC at Central Railways.

NMMC has also urged people to stay safe and avoid outing for the next two days. “Staying at home is the best thing one can do”, said an of-ficial from NMMC. Sev-eral parts of Mumbai, Thane & Navi Mumbai are already witnessing moderate rainfall along with lightning since Monday and it may continue for the entire week.

Market yesterday was range bound and at

later period went down and got support exactly at 35000- in Bank Nifty and Nifty at 16700. Market is tired and now wants to go down but technical charts are telling market has still to go up. This is creating confusion as ground level says something else. In-dustrial growth is down, everything is in a mess. All markets are closed but only share market is making all time high which does not agree with ground reality.

Nifty future: Yesterday it had closed near the low of the day at 15776 which shows weakness. But today is expiry so volatility will be there. So, always try to book the profit the way it comes. Tomorrow there is a possibility of a gap down and if it opens below 15805 then it

will go down to touch 15734 and 15660. If it crosses 15826 then it can go upto 15909. So wait and just see the fight between technical and fundamental.

Bank Nifty future: Yes-terday it tried to cross 35500 but again failed for second

time and fell down to 35000, which clearly shows weakness in the mar-ket. Today if it crosses 35185 then it can move upto yesterday’s high of 35450. However, today is the expiry for Nifty and Bank Nifty. Volatility will be there and if it breaks 35000 then 34200-34300 is on the cards. Market has now come into the nega-tive zone so please watch. Don't go out for shopping shares in this high-ly heated market.

EditorialiSSuE: 40 17 JunE, 2021

Over the last few weeks, there has been a stupendous increase

in the crime graph, especially in the petty crime. Cases of daylight rob-bery, chain snatching etc. are on the rise. This has instilled a sense of in-security amongst the residents. The non-chalant attitude of the many police officials, non-friendly image of the police department and the difficult legal procedures have only helped in eroding the image further.

This is an era of specialization. Considering the competitiveness that one has to face, success in any field, to a great extent, depends on specialization. This adage applies to the police department as well. The present day working in the po-lice department makes it impera-tive for the officials to carry out a wide range of duties, which in turn adversely affects their performance as prime security providing agency. The police today have no defined duties, which varies from penalizing offenders of Covid 19 rules, nab-bing criminals to providing security to the VVIPs to making bandobast for dharnas & community celebra-tions, to managing traffic, mediating in disputes, providing security cover to the politicians during elections and election rallies and what not. It is because of this multi faceted duty requirement that the performance of police in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai is lack luster and they fail to perform their prime duty that of providing security to the residents, which is what they are actually created for. Limited force equipped with arms of the stone- age era with unlimited working hours is finding itself at the receiving end especially when the nature of crime is getting sophisti-cated and complex. As is said power corrupts person, the same is true to great extent for the police force also, which wields legitimate and some times even illegitimate pow-ers. Lack of commitment and weak morale are visible in the police force today leading to disgust in the soci-

ety and police as a profession carries a very poor image.

The police alone cannot be blamed for this sorry state of affairs. Huge interferences from the politi-cians who treat the police depart-ment as personal employees, has also contributed towards its poor performances. Transfers and post-ings make lot of news these days where merits rarely count. This has put a big question mark on the work-ing of the police department and there is an eminent need for revamp-ing the whole system especially in view of the recent scam.

The police department needs to go in for specialized forces for different works like for example crime branch, VVIPs security, traf-fic department etc. It is heartening to note that recently efforts have been made to modernize the department, but the forces should be imparted specialized training in dealing with particular kind of crimes especially in view of new types of crimes like financial and cyber crimes. A sig-nificant amount of autonomy needs to be given to the police department and there has to be a minimum in-terference from the politicians. In this revamping process not only the police department needs to be overhauled but the public in general also needs to be counseled. The il-legal migrants from neighbouring countries, the slum dwellers, many of the road side beggars and urchins are also potential criminals and they need to be discouraged as preven-tion of crime is better than convic-tion of criminals after crime is com-mitted. The working conditions in the police department need to be im-proved and the police force should be augmented and equipped with latest arms, means of communica-tion & transportation. They should also have better inter connection and exchange of information with other security agencies in order to enhance their performance and also to improve their sagging morale.

The state government of Maharashtra,

which has recently eased the lockdown restrictions due to the significant decline in Covid-19 cases over the last few weeks, has warned and hinted that lockdown can be imposed again in the state if people flout the Covid-19 norms.

The state disaster management minis-ter Vijay Vaddetiwar said, "Even though the restrictions has been eased from June 7, 2021 in various parts of Maharashtra, it is important to exercise caution as carelessness from our side can result in the infection spread-ing again. Keeping the same in mind, cities have been categorised under five levels, based on which the unlock plan has been an-

nounced. The officials are also taking steps to ensure people do not flout Covid 19 norms as it could worsen the situ-ation. The government will be forced to impose strict restrictions again in districts that have high positivity rate. The decision regarding the same is likely to be taken in the next eight days."

According to the data shared by the of-ficials on June 13, the patient recovery rate was low and the number of new patients was high once again, and if this continues, the trend could worsen in a week. Officials are keeping a close check on the cases for the next eight days and understand the changes in this situa-tion.

Currently the number of patients in some districts has been

increasing slowly and hence the movement has been allowed with certain permissions. However, the minister confirmed that if the patient count continues to rise, a number of new restrictions will have to be imposed once again after reviewing the overall situation and that the next step will be analysed in a week's time.

As of now, the districts and major metros of the state are categorized differently based on several fac-tors. Many districts with coronavirus positivity rate of up to 5 per cent have been given several restrictions and activi-ties have resumed in these regions. However, within days of permit-ting the same, the count has seen a rise and the concerns have risen again.

after their leader, D.B. Patil. The next date of agitation will be de-clared if CIDCO fails to pay heed to the demands of the local leaders.

On 15th June, a meeting various leaders and citizens of Raigad and Navi Mumbai areas supporting the naming of NMIA after D B Patil, was held at Agri Samaj Hall. It was attended by Dashrath Patil, Presi-dent of Navi Mumbai International Airport All Party Action Com-mittee (APAC), Ram-seth Thakur, Sanjeev Naik, Prashant Thakur, Mahesh Baladi, Bhush-an Patil, Arunsheth Bhagat, Suresh Tokare, J.D.Tandel, Deepak Mhatre, Deepak Patil, Rupesh Dhumal, Ra-jendra Patil, K.K Mha-tre, Dashrath Bhagat, Nandaraj Mungaji,

Ravi Patil, Manoj Bhu-jbal, Dr.Arun Kumar Bhagat, Vikas Gharat, BhuStapendra Patil, Raj Patil, Gurunath Gaikar, Jayesh Akre, Dheeraj Kalekar, Rajesh Gaikar, Seema Gharat, Mahesh Mohite, Rajesh Mapa-ra, Sopan Jambhekar. It was also attended by a large number of repre-sentatives from various organisations, associa-tions and activists of various parties.

It may be recalled that the leaders from various political parties as well as the project af-fected people have been demanding to name NMIA after their leader late D.B. Patil. A human chain agitation was also held on 10th June by the All-Party Action Com-mittee (APAC), which has been formed for this purpose. The human chain movement, which spread from Raigad to Navi Mumbai, Thane,

Palghar, Kalyan, Dom-bivali, Badlapur, Am-bernath and Mumbai took place in a grand manner.

As the agitation failed to bring the de-sired result, the leaders supporting D B Patil name for NMIA are now planning a bigger agita-tion in front of CIDCO on D B Patil's Memorial Day on June 24.

The agitations will include son of the soil, project affected people, locals, action commit-tees, organizations, various political parties from village to city.

Speaking about the agitation during the meeting MLA Prashant Thakur congratulated everyone and thanked them for making the June 10 human chain movement a success.

Thakur said, "There was a demand in 2008 for naming NMIA af-ter D B Patil. How-

ever, Eknath Shinde in a recent statement has said that NMIA will be named after Balasaheb Thackeray and that the Board of Directors of CIDCO too has passed the resolution for the same. This is unaccept-able by us and has hurt the sentiments of the locals. Hence, we have decided to stage another agitation and press for our demand.”

“Earlier Chief Min-ister Uddhav Thackeray had called the meeting of APAC and also local leaders and in that dis-cussion the action com-mittee strongly suggest-ed that NMIA should get the name of D B Patil. But now the lead-ers of Mahavikas Agha-di have started creating confusion among the people. However, we are adamant that there is no alternative to D B Patil's name," he added.

Ramseth Thakur

said, "D B Patil’s name should be given to Navi Mumbai International Airport. PAPs, gram panchayats, institutions and organizations have also made demand in this regard. BJP MP Manoj Kotak had ear-lier demanded that the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link flyover be named after Chhatrapati Shiva-ji Maharaj. Shiv Sena MPs later demanded that it be named after Sufi saint Sultanul Hind Khwaja Garib Nawaz. After that, Rahul She-wale withdrew the de-mand. Eknath Shinde had also earlier said that the demand for D B Patil name should be re-spected and the airport would be named after him. But now he is say-ing that another bigger project will be given D.B. Patil’s name. We are not happy with their decision and will con-tinue to intensify the

struggle.”Dashrath Patil, Pres-

ident of APAC said, "The agitation held on 10th June to name NMIA after D B Patil was a grand success. There was no flag of any party in the move-ment, only D B Patil was the focus. We have made it clear to the Chief Minister that the airport should be named after D B Patil. Even I am the leader of Shiv Sena but our struggle for naming NMIA after D B Patil will continue. This will be a peaceful agitation.”

J. D. Tandel said, "During the meet-ing with CM Uddhav Thackeray we empha-sised on naming the NMIA after D B Patil and our demand should be fulfilled. Despite that, some leaders of the Mahavikas Aghadi are deliberately misleading the people."

With monsoon setting in and heavy downpour causing wa-

terlogging at most of the low-lying areas, snakes - both adult and babies- are seen crawling at various places, near residential areas as well. During last one week, the snake rescuers have rescued several adult and equal num-ber of juvenile snakes from the areas in Kharghar to Panvel. The number of frantic calls for rescuing snakes has increased manyfold, they say.

“This is the season for laying eggs as well as hatching. Hence, the snakes look for dry and relatively warm places. They opt to hide for laying eggs and hence prefer to hide inside homes, in cardboard boxes, gunny bags, under rubbles or among debris

at the backyard,” said Raghunath Ja-dav, Government certified rescuer from NGO Sarpa Mitra.

“As soon as the babies or snakelets come out breaking their shells, they immediately slither here and there in search for food. Parks and gardens are very common place for them to hide. When the snakelets come into contact of human being, first instinct of any person is to kill the reptile without judging whether it is poisonous or non-poisonous. The snake rescuers and NGOs put an attempt to educate people not to harm these creatures,” he added.

Kharghar resident Raghunath Jad-hav, who is a regular snake rescuer for last fifteen years has recently rescued three snakes from different areas. He is attempting to inform people about the behaviour of the reptile, so that the general public do not harm them.

“When a snake is confronted by a human, its first reaction is to escape. They bite only when they are threat-

ened,” informs Jadhav.“The first reaction of people is to

simply get it killed. We want to tell people that most snakes we rescue are non-venomous. And just because the snake is venomous does not mean it will harm or bite them,” he stresses.

Adding further he says, “We usu-ally alert the children who play in the park not to hurt the creature. It is better to call us for rescuing it. If the snake gets hurt, the kid may fall in danger. The indiscriminate cutting of forest and trees, continuous construc-tions have reduced the number of the reptiles. We the rescuers are trying our best to save them from getting ex-tinct.”

Waterlogging is one more reason for the reptiles to come out from their

holes or habitats. When their holes get water logged due to heavy flow of water, they crawl outside. Usually snakes have lost their shelter and have been seen on the road or near the city areas. Snake Awareness Association alarms citizens, especially those who are stay on the ground floor, to keep their surrounding clean and not accu-mulate empty boxes, gunny bags, rag. People should not keep their shoes outside because this is a place of hid-ing for snakelets.

A member shared, “We usually create awareness by teaching people how to recognize snakes and their breed looking at their hoods, habits, skins and its movement.”

Talking about the venom he shared, “People are generally unaware that venom is a type of saliva. So, the snake never wastes their venom un-necessary. Cobra and Russel’s vipers are the venomous ones and rat snake, water snakes are the common non-venomous”.

Do not hurt snake, call Helpline: Snake rescuers

With the onset of monsoon, snakes are seen crawling near residential areas

If ONE COmES ACROSS A SNAkE: Call the Helpline ‘1926’ or

contact any Sarpa mitra or local fire brigade. Don't try to catch it, kill it or poke it with a stick. That could be harmful because the ac-tion only instigates the snake to react in self-defense.

Ask the others to move away or stand in a safe spot, but do not run or panic.

Do not go close to the snake to identify it or to take picture or try to catch it

To help the residents aged 18-44 years

of ward 63, Vashi get Covid 19 vaccination, a vaccination centre under the guidance of MLA Manda Mhatre of Belapur Assembly con-stituency has been start-ed at Mahatma Phule Bhavan Hall in Vashi Sector-17.
