STRAWBERRY FETE WITH TWILIGHT MARKET…..

This year the strawberry Fete will be held on Saturday 18th November with a Twilight Market from

5pm to 9pm. The usual tea will be available from 6pm-8pm, reasonably priced, offering schnitzels/salad

with strawberries/icecream for dessert along with a licensed bar. The Hall Committee will still have our

cake and produce, bottle stalls and lucky dips. So we urge all our community to support these stalls with

donations of goods. Donations towards lucky dips & bottle stalls may be left at Lehmanns or at the school.

There will be a wide variety of stalls inside and outside the hall providing a unique opportunity for the

community to socialize, have a meal and do some Christmas shopping with background music provided by

DJ`s Rob & Cate. For the children there will be the Farm Barn Petting Zoo with Baby Animals. Stalls

will include Trade Wind Fashions; Jewellery/Scarves; Wild Woodland Toys; Enjo: Hand Made

Cards; Organic Olive Oil; Next Time Around wares; Books; Avon; Essential Oils; Tupperware;

Balinese Handicrafts; Fairy Realm Dreadlocks Studio; Handbags & Accessories; Roots n Leaves;

Mocandunda Wines; Partylite Candles; Pretty Sweet Enterprises.

We encourage all to spread this news and invite friends to attend a family event. Supporting local and

surrounding area`s products. Proceeds go towards the continuing maintenance and upgrading of our

wonderful hall.

ROBERTSTOWN PEACE HALL REQUEST…. The Robertstown Peace hall Committee have discussed having a display cabinet for

Robertstown memorabilia. Therefore we are asking if residents of the area have such

memorabilia of Robertstown & district suitable to display and are willing to donate or loan

for such purposes, e.g. we have a jug & plate with the original hall painted on them & a

glass bowl from C.F.Leditschke store, a 1971 Centenary mug & badges from the hall

opening. There were also items given away by early business houses, or you may have large

photos of the early town. We would appreciate your thoughts on these ideas. Should we

display old photos in the supper room? We need to determine if there is enough memorabilia

to warrant a display cabinet. Please convey your ideas to anyone of the hall committee

as follows…President— Maureen Keller Polly Mansell

Vice President— Joanne Kotz Margaret Launer

Secretary— John L. Mosey Chris Kimpton

Treasurer— Fred Lang Tracey Rodda

Toni Brown Ron Dunsdon

Barbara Neindorf

We value your input; Thank You

History and Memoirs of the four

Geranium Plain Schools from

1894 to 1947

The Third School Lutheran Day School

The area was populated with a large percentage of families of German origin who were Lutherans. As they required a

Christian education for their children and also wished to retain the German language, they established their own

school. At first they held this in their church which was know as St Martin’s, Lower Bright. This was built on section 10,

hundredth of Bright, and was dedicated on November 11th , 1900. Twenty—five to thirty students attended this

school, some of these coming from neighbouring churches, because it was a Lutheran Christian School. Distances of up

to 6 miles were walked, each way to attend. The first teacher was Johannes Heinrich, who was a teaching at Emu

Downs. He was called to Lower Bright and with Gods help, served both schools. There were no records kept, as this

was a private school, so as much verbal information as possible has been gathered from the few former students still

available to us. When numbers increased and the building became too small, the St Martin’s congregation decided to

build a larger room in a more central position for the advantage of most pupils. The school was constructed out of iron

and timber, and was built in the year 1911 on section12 hundred of Bright near Herb Eckert’s place, later to become

Wally Noske’s and now occupied by Clayton and Carlene Heinrich. The teachers remembered from Lutheran School

days are Miss F Georg, Pastor Juers, Student Teacher Eckermann, Dr Hoelte, Dr Theo Nickel, Bertha Oster, Ester Linder,

Mr E Koch, Edwin Schmidt, Teddy Backen and Emil Kloeden. The lessons were given in German in the morning and in

English during the afternoon arithmetic and tables were taught in English. A number of parents loaned money to build

this school and as families left the area they were reimbursed for the amount owing to them. Mr Ted Wittwer

remembers that his mother was paid back about £15 when the Government brought the school. In 1917 the Govern-

ment closed all private schools and they paid the Church Elders for this school. During World War 1 pupils attending

remember two Government officials arriving and telling them to take their books home. When they returned the next

week their male teacher had been replaced by Miss Atkinson, the State School teacher who had been transferred from

the State School held in the St Stephen’s Church 3 miles further south east. She and twelve students marched the 3

miles and were met by a guard of honour formed by the St Martin’s students. This school then became known as the

Geranium Plain School.

ROBERTSTOWN PRIMARY SCHOOL PASTY SLICE & APPLE PIE DRIVE……. A huge thank you to Lynda Olsen, Amanda Keller, Bee Burgess, Renee Pearson, Kayley Longobardi,

Renee Floyd & Sarah Connor for the work they did, peeling, slicing and cooking apples, making strudel,

making pastry, chopping vegetables, mixing pasty mixture, basting, cooking, packing and labelling.

It was a lot of work but we also had a lot of fun. The ladies spent 6 full days cooking ( not including the

trips to collect food and containers), a venture well worth doing. We made 145 family Sized Apple Pies and

220 Pasty slices, making a profit of over $2000. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser.

sent Carl Jansen to New Zealand to learn the art of cheese
